Vinyl for inside of makeup bag

Hi. I would like to try to make a small makeup bag and to line it with vinyl so it could be water resistant. Could you please recommend a vinyl that you may have used that worked well for you?

Thank you!

Hobby Lobby used to sell clear vinyl. I will say that a heavy weight freezer bag might work. I have not made any of these bags, so just don't know.

There is a tutorial here and it talks about an iron on vinyl to make your own vinyl covered fabric.

I found this site that offers it but have never used it so perhaps someone else on the board has ….

I have used Pellon iron on vinyl fuse before and it does make fabric water and stain resistant. I have used it in zipper pouches, lunch bags, sandwich bags, etc. You iron it onto your fabric before construction and can be used inside or out. Just follow the directions on the package. Very easy to do. Sews beautifully too.
It is available at Joanns, Walmart, Amazon, and others.

I have bought vinyl at JoAnns for bags ( have not bought it in a while, but JoAnns had it in different thicknesses).

I bought a clear vinyl tablecloth at WalMart, cut it to size and sewed it to my makeup brush bag. As it was fairly thin, I used 2 layers instead of one. I pressed them together using my applique sheet over it so I didn't melt it onto my iron. Got a few air bubbles in it but otherwise does well for me.

My question for everyone, is how does any of these wash in the washing machine? I've heard the vinyl cracks and peels. Can someone who has made these bags how they make out after several washes. Thanks

I used to make cloth diapers and the water proof fabric used is called PUL (Polyurethane Laminate). It is an excellent fabric to use for the liner of cosmetic bags and wet bags that are used for wet bathing suits and wet cloth diapers. It is easy to find and JoAnns usually carries it.

My friend had a car garbage bag sewn by her sister that was lined with the iron on vinyl on the lining fabric. It was wonderful until my friend washed it in the machine. She may have also dried it in the dryer. I think if you hand wash the item it should be fine.

Would a cheap thin shower curtain from Ikea (or similar) work?
