I love my new HE top loader it works great! Different noises than my agitator ones but cleans well, less drying time, less detergent. So far it's been great.

How can clothes get clean with less water? Not understanding that. There are water level adjustments on mine for different load sizes.

I love our LG top loader. We bought the largest home one since we have a King size bed. Yes, I do have to get in there, but it does a great job.

Hmmm, top loader without agitator? that would be great. I still like top loaders because I usually like to soak my quilts. front loaders don't have that option i believe.

I can't remember the brand right now but my front load HD machine has a soak cycle; I use it a lot but would probably not try to soak a quilt ( even with Color Catchers) because of the drastically reduced amount of water used. The lack of the agitator not only adds space but is so much gentler on clothes - no more underwear wrapped over and around the agitator  Joyce in Delaware

I bought an LG , a nice one just one year ago. I do like it, it took some time for me to get used to the much less water it uses. The clothes are clean, the spin makes them almost dry. Now that I've gotten used to the water level it's great. If I have something heavily soiled I still program for additional water! :-)

I have a Whirlpool set, fairly new. You can open the lid using the pause button. I like having a top loader with an agitator. Had to search to find what I wanted, so glad I did.

The owners' manual for my new set actually address the different noises to expect as it cycles. I think if people would read the owners' manual for any purchase, they would be more comfortable with their purchase. I am glad that you are happy with your machine!

Deb, the manual explains that the machine senses how large the load is and adjusts how much water to use. and the water is pushed up from the bottom intermittently, like a fountain blast. Sounds like a lot of ladies in the thread are happy with their high efficiency machines. We are on well and septic so I think saving water makes sense esp if we go thru a dry spell. Eventually these will be the only option if not already. The govt. is on a conservation rant. I HATE those stupid mercury light bulbs that don't illuminate like the old bulbs. Nor do they last as advertised. We are always replacing them. I have just gotten used to bad lighting.

I've had both and now I have front loading for about 7 yrs now and I love it. Saves on water and the dryer is so much faster. It senses the wetness of the clothes and adjust the timing. Most of the time it is done about the same time as washer if not before. I used to have to either wait for the dryer to get done or do a couple of loads washing while waiting for dryer. I have lots of kids clothes going thru mine with little socks and even though none of them have went into the pump, ( I did have problems with them disappearing in top loader) there is an area in the the front where I check to see if they got caught in there. Its really good because with animals and pet hair and then kids socks and the other stuff they put in thier pockets, most of them get caught in this clean out area in the front and then the stuff that shouldn't be in the dryer (like crayons) usually don't make it that far. There have been lots of topics on the subject here. I will advise you if you use color catchers then pin them to a washcloth, they have been known to get into the pump and back it up. I no more than heard about it when it happened to me. I still use them when needed but do pin them so they come out when they should. Good luck for your search.

I have a Maytag and mine has this too. I love the soak feature in mine, it works great. I also love the lock out feature that keeps the kids from opening them machines when they shouldn't. You save on water and soap and electric since it takes less time to wash and also to dry. Even when I put a heavy quilt/bedspread in mine it comes clean.

I bought the Maytag last summer and really love it. It is so gentle on clothing and quilts.l

My set was delivered yesterday. The gas company is coming in the morning to run the new line to it. I can't wait to try it out! Laundry Baskets are sorted and waiting! Lol! Never knew doing laundry would be so "fun".!

There are differend load settings on the new HE washers and soak options too. You can set them for extra water if needed. Listening to the new cycle sounds with take some getting used to but so far, pretty quiet!

My only comment would be that is you are vertically challenged, it might be difficult to reach into the bottom to retrieve items. I am 5'6" and can reach fine, but any shorter and it might be a problem.

I would LOVE to be able to get a top loader, but am short and to get the size I need (to wash the king size quilts/blankets) I need a step stool to fish out the clothes on the bottom. Sigh -- I'm stuck with a front loader.

I bought a Whirlpool topload high efficiency last year. I LOVE it! I had held on to my 25 year old washer because I'd heard a lot of bad things about the new ones. Mine is great. Cleans well, easy to use and HUGE. The only thing I will tell you is to read the manual. Mine works differently than my old one and has to be loaded differently. Once I got that down, I really like it.

Sandygirl 07-08-2014 02:27 AM

I am 5'2". No problem reaching into the tub. I have a 3.8 tub. Sems so much larger w/o the agitator. So far so good !

I agree with you - can't open the door of a front loader after it's filled with water - and I often toss something extra in.

I have a front loader that uses less water. I also have kids of all ages, construction workers, mechanics, etc in my family and all of their clothes come clean, borrowing a stain here and there. Sometimes I put it on the soak feature to make sure they have enough time to get all the dirt out but that's only if I'm not in a rush to get it all done. I've had my set for several yrs with no problems. I have an extra large capacity and then bought the dryer a little bit bigger so it doesn't have to work so hard and dries faster. Especially with my heavy quilted bedspreads.

Sandygirl 07-09-2014 05:46 AM

Since appliances are now regulated to be energy efficient, i am sure that in the future we will all be using these machines. I was very pleased to see that my machine cleaned up the doggie bed towels quite nicely! One towel had "spit up" on it...came clean! (Ok, vomit). I used the heavily soiled option on that load.

Technology changes quickly. Think of the car you drove 20-30 years ago and compare it to the features of todays' models. Night and day.

2months later and I still love my new machine w/o agitator.

I had a top loader w/o agitator GE. It did NOT get clothes cleaner, no option to fill tub to what you want- it "senses" what is needed. Husband has lawn & landscape business clothes didn't get clean, even lightly soiled ones. Tub agitation constantly twisted up sheets, shirts etc. Took it back and got a new model with agitator. Salesman said they had had many returned, different models. My DS & DDIL love theirs, but their clothes are never really dirty and they dry clean many items. Just my experience. I'm 5'1" I had to use a stool to get to the bottom!

Rhealene 09-13-2014 10:21 AM

I have a Samsung HE washer, top load large capacity without the agitator...I hated it at first because the normal cycle would barely fill the tub 1/4 with water and only cold water no matter if you set it to hot water..and you could only put about a half dozen clothing items it to wash. THEN...I figured out if I put it on the bedding cycle, it will fill all the way up, no matter how full of clothes it is and you can do a hot wash if desired...ha! ..so I always just use that cycle for either a hot wash or a warm wash and set it for a pre-wash and extra rinse too. Our clothes come out cleaner than the old washer I used to have would get them. I love my Samsung washer now

mountain-moma 09-14-2014 03:04 AM

Just my 2cents I love a Top Load washer with a agitator and thats what I own
seems to get my clothes cleaner. But I to love my Old Matag Winger washer just love getting out on a sunny day and washing and hanging my clothes and bedding I throw them in the dryer for a few seconds to get the allergies off.Just Saying

wanda lou 09-20-2014 01:52 AM

I have a new Samsung and i hate it, it is one that decides how much water to use by weighing the clothes, my husband added a small hose to our laundry sink now i add the clothes, and i add alot of water with the hose add the soap and use the bedding cycle it works a bit better, but not at all like my old Speed Queen.

Sandygirl 09-20-2014 02:32 AM

My new Maytag has a "deep water" option. I am only 5'2" but I don't have an issue with reaching into the drum. Msybe my arms are longer? Yes, it is deep but it is do-able.

I have a new Maytag washer, and was told it pushes the water through the cloths, and it didn`t wash the rag rugs
clean. When I asked hubby for a small stool to stand on, he said no way. If I would reach in and there was nothing
to stop me, I may not be able to get out. I`m 5`3" tall and rather old. I don`t think I would buy another one.
