Whew! Glad to hear the story had a happy ending.
No fun on the skunked dogs. Been there...done that several times, and the baking soda/peroxide cure works pretty well. Several years ago, our Blue Heeler (outside dog..on a cable unless w/us) was raising Cain. It was about dark, and hubby was gone. Dumb me let her go and she headed right into the carport. Better her than me..right? Well..out she came, throwing a skunk in the air. The skunk would no more hit the ground than she had him again for another toss in the air. This went on until she got out in the drive and on the last toss, the skunk managed to get under the pasture gate where the dog couldn't get to him. The skunk got his rear up and the dog got it right in the face. Poor Blue! She headed for the grass, sliding on her face until her jaws and lips were raw. Did she learn her lesson this time?? Nooooooooo....the skunk returned a day or so later for more revenge on Blue. :> She had several baking soda/peroxide baths, but for about a year everytime the air was humid, she smelled skunky. |
TShooters, I'm sorry, but that really made me laugh! lol!!

@ Tina
Pretty hilarious now..not so funny at the time. I knew there would be no good outcome since Blue would not be called off. All I could do was stand and watch and hope I didn't get it, too. LOL |
I would've actually felt bad for the skunk getting tossed like that. I'm surprised it survived! And I would've felt bad for your dog too. I'm sure it was a very tense time! But we sure can remember the long-lingering skunk odor. We also had soaked her collar in everything we could try - nothing even would touch it. That sure is potent stuff!!!

Oh my! What if you leave the door open? Maybe it would wonder out??!! What do they like to eat? Maybe you could put their favorite food (whatever that is) outside to tempt them to leave the garage? Finally are there any 'professionals' who would be willing to do this???! Good luck & let us know how it goes.

As for the rabies, I think they can be carriers without actually having the disease. That's why they are so dangerous. but I still think they are darn cute as far as pestilences go. |

Dh actually used a bungee cord to pull on the door (attached it to the back of the cage so it would pull it up)- then used a long piece of re-bar (basically a long pole) to press the release - then the bungee opened it. It was a good idea that worked! But I still don't want to do this again! lol!
