As some of you know we recently did eat a snapping turtle when my hubby thought I should have a bite of his childhood history. But, we do draw the line here.

This little guy flew into the side of the barn and was knocked cold. My huntin' hubby picked it up and held it until the little bird finally came around and flew off on its own. It is now out there sippin' the soup with his other friends.

Besides...it would take way too many to make a decent meal.LOL

Ok, Sneed, you're forgiven for eating the turtle. But please, don't eat any more of them :( Or at least don't tell us.

maryb119 06-05-2011 08:42 AM

Thaks for not eating the bird. There isn't much meat on it anyway! Ha hahaha!

frauhahn 06-05-2011 09:24 AM

Wow! I doubt many people get the opportunity to hold one of those little guys!

eastermarie 06-05-2011 10:26 AM

He's a beautiful little bird. Glad you rescued him.

TonnieLoree 06-05-2011 11:37 AM

It should feel especially lucky that it wasn't a turtle.

verna2197 06-06-2011 03:43 AM

Awesome, now that is a very rare site. To see someone holding a hummingbird!

teacherbailey 06-06-2011 06:56 AM

What a great picture!!!! Thanks for sharing...and please, if you eat anything else like snapping turtles, we don't need to know....some of us are too tender-hearted for that kind of news.

SuzyQ 06-06-2011 07:17 AM

awww, how precious!

lorimax5859 06-06-2011 07:18 AM

How sweet. We just hung birdfood socks and they are about to eat us out of house and home!

Therese 06-06-2011 07:45 AM

I have two huge snapping turtles in my pond you can have. :)

Awwwwwwww, he looks a little ticked off

caspharm 06-06-2011 08:21 AM

Very cute. We have a lot of hummingbirds around our house.

GreatStarter 06-06-2011 09:07 AM

Ah, so cute! And we too have eaten snaping turtle. My sister has made soup and stews with snapping turtles caught at my dads. Always kill them because they will eat the legs off of ducks on pond, who then die. It's a terrible part of nature.

Therese 06-06-2011 09:26 AM

I just learned they weren't good to have around yesterday.

Aren't they wonderful little creatures!

Therese 06-06-2011 10:51 AM

It was fun watching them playing in the pond before we found out that wasn't a good thing!

Grandma Peg 06-06-2011 05:05 PM

Not to mention the little fish, the little toads that are everywhere right now. Last night in the garden I saw some toads that were about as big as a pennyl...thought it was a bug at first. Must have been 30 just around the green beans.

you ate a snapping turtle? Did I miss that thread somehow? How was it - was it fishy or cheap chicken-like?

PS - thank you for saving the hummingbird. :)

Sneed 06-07-2011 07:21 AM

@redkimbba
Yep, we did eat a Snapper that was threatening to my chickens. It was on a Guess What We Had for Dinner topic. The turtle dinner wasn't anything I would want to have again. Kind of like chicken, but way too chewy!

Therese 06-07-2011 09:29 AM

OK then! No turtle dinners for us! But I sure love seeing the hummers, blue jays and cardinals. Anyone want to go hunting in the pond? heehee!
