On Saturday night weather reports were that when Irene hit our area the winds would be between 50-65 so I knew we would be OK as we've weathered many storms like that. Rain did come down heavy in sheets and the winds were blowing but mostly it was just a heavy rain storm for us.

Township had residents in a low lying area evacuate and suggested that anyone who has had flooding in the past to evacuate also. We did lose power on and off around midnight on Sat. but Irene just left some small branches and lots of leaves on the ground in our area. We lost our cable TV, internet and phone for all of Sunday until about 3 am Monday morning. Boy did I miss my contact with the outside world. Just hope everyone else had as few problems as we did. Glad you made it ok. I'm still waiting to hear from relatives I have in Ocean City, Somerspoint area.

patd 08-29-2011 04:17 AM

Glad to hear you are ok. I am north of you in new england. It was not too bad. I did not even lose power. But there were lots who did. No work today as no power there.

cjomomma 08-29-2011 04:28 AM

May I'm so happy that you all are safe.

frauhahn 08-29-2011 04:30 AM

It has to be such a relief that she's (Irene) is gone!

blueangel 08-29-2011 04:30 AM

Glad you are safe.

Joyce DeBacco 08-29-2011 04:36 AM

We still have relatives in Jersey and it was good to hear that the storm was downgraded by the time it reached you. You lucked out. We, here in SW FL, are often on the receiving end of such storms so I know how hard it can be to go without power for days. Lucky yours came right back on.

quiltinggirl 08-29-2011 04:48 AM

Glad to know that all is well with you and yours. :)

mom-6 08-29-2011 04:54 AM

Thanks for letting us know you're OK. I hope our other friends on here are also.

DMotyl 08-29-2011 05:00 AM

Glad you are all safe and sound. In CT river flooding has been problematic for many. The western shoreline did sustain damage as well. We lost power for about 20 hrs. Some folks may be out for a week! Yikes.

Sallyflymi 08-29-2011 05:21 AM

Very glad nothing major happened in your neck of the woods. Hope clean up isn't to bad.

May in Jersey 08-29-2011 07:15 AM

Thanks everyone. Aftermath of Irene is doing lots of damage, not in my area but mostly upstate as rivers are cresting and overflowing. Hope we don't get any rain as they would make the problem worse. May in Jersey

Ramona Byrd 08-29-2011 08:39 AM

Glad you came out of the storm without much damage. Let this be a warning to us all, prepare for emergencies BEFORE they happen. Make up a list (check with Flylady.com for a good one) and have it known to all family members.

NOTE TO HOMEBUYERS....check to see how low or high that special house sits, near running water or low lying fields. I suspect that for some years it's going to be difficult to sell such houses that show signs of being flooded. It might pay to interview insurance agents about the availability of flood insurance for different addresses. Might be VERY interesting to find out such differences.

Makes me wonder how we could find out the level of such houses.

I know you can find out the height of near by air ports..our own is very low, but even in town I'll bet there's a difference in height every few blocks, even if it's only by inches.

Glad to know you and yours are okay... and that your electricity is back on... you would be missed on the QB!

mmonohon 08-29-2011 12:01 PM

Glad you are safe.

We just sent our youngest to college in NY. Then the earthquake in Virginia happen and now hurricane Irene. All that can make a parent nervous.

G-MaDiane 08-30-2011 05:13 AM

My sister is in CT and they are still without power. She loves to knit so she is staying busy. She makes all my socks!

KLO 08-30-2011 05:27 AM

Glad to hear that you are OK. My NJ relatives are OK too. I know there have been some losses but it could easily have been worse. I feel for those who did lose family members or homes, etc.

lorimax5859 08-30-2011 06:08 AM

Yeah! Glad you're safe.

I used to get nervous even without all these "disasters"... I liked to see my son tucked in his bed every night... but (sigh) they all grow up... they even learn how to take care of themselves... LOL ... and that becomes a very very good feeling... rest assured he will do fine.

grandme26 08-30-2011 07:31 AM

Happy to see that you made it through without severe damage. I am waiting to hear from a friend in NJ to see how she did.

QuiltingNurse 08-30-2011 08:08 AM

Hi Everyone
I'm here in Pa, very close to NJ- "just over the Delaware River"
We lost power Saturday and never got it back till Sunday night. No cable for TV or computers from Saturday till MOnday around 4pm. Trees uprooted power lines down, roads closed. We had some water come in right through the windows Saturday late evening due to the wind.
In my area we also went under a tornado watch/warning for about 5 hours on Saturday. Lowest level of the house, etc. Within about a week an earthquake, hurricane and tornado!
Thanks to everyone for thoughts and prayers. We really expected worse but were spared.
I'm also heard from the radio that "caravans" from other states (tree trimers, power company employees, etc) came up to help us along with individuals driving up ( mentioned a guy from Indiana). Perhaps some of you on the board knew someone who came to help. I just want to say thank you to everyone who came and are here to help. You left your homes and families to help us. May God bless each and every one of you.

So glad to hear you are ok. Scarey time!

I'm with you. I am 60 miles South of Richmond VA and we got the outer bands of rain from the storm (the Coast got it bad) and a little wind. Isabelle was worse for my area. Lost power for about six hours. Glad it is over with for this small area. There are a lot of people, businesses and schools without power yet in the Richmond, and Coastal areas. Will take some time for the power companies to find the problems and remove all the trees and debre. We are very lucky. Vermont is a very sad area with all the flooding according to the news. Glad you are safe and just keep on quilting...hehe, Mary

mrs. fitz 08-30-2011 09:21 AM

May in Jersey, in what part of the state do you live? Our area was okay except for Hoboken, 10 minutes from me, which was all over the news due to flooding. Glad to know you're okay.

collady 08-30-2011 12:04 PM

Glad you made it safely through Irene. I worried about all my friends in her path!

pdolls 08-30-2011 03:09 PM

Getting to work and back home has taken almost 4 hrs today

luce321 08-30-2011 03:32 PM

Glad to hear that everything is ok with you and your family. I'm wondering how Krystana made out during the storm. She mentioned that she was not sure if anything would be left when she got back. Has anyone heard anything?

sewNso 08-30-2011 03:38 PM

glad you made it okay. Irene flooding is all over the news in michigan. they're saying Vt. is bad. saw a lady on fox news this morning that said she came in from up state N.Y. and had to take 4 detours to get to N.Y. city. I WAS planning on going to bennington Vt. the 2nd week in sept. May not now.
HOW ARE THE REST OF YOU NEW ENGLANDERS DOING?

ButtermilkMama 08-30-2011 04:03 PM
