Jnbug, that is wonderful, keep up the good work and congrats trupeach. Glad you got this started. I am trying but right now I'm mostly trying to keep up with all this diabetic medicine. when to, how to, it must be scheduled so I have finally made up an agenda. I've never given myself the number one spot in life......I am alone, so why not??? nothing standing in my way. I've been careing for an elderly lady and I forget....do you know, she is a God send, she remembers for me. Now I got someone to care. That is best thing for me. You guys and she will help me out. I hope I can help someone, too. But, I have had to cut portions of the wonderful comfort foods, and cut out the heavy carbs...so much to remember. But, I'm still climbing stairs. whewwwwwww, its work, mentally as much as physically. Thank you all for being here.

((( from me to you )))

Blessings,
Ruth

I, too, am doing the low carb thing. Mostly it doesn't bother me, but I would really like a glass of mild and that mac & cheese the other night really looked good. But it's working. I did the low carb thing some years ago and I hoped it would get me off that plateau I was on. I'm lucky I don't have diabetes to contend with too. But I will have if I don't get this weight off and controlled. Good luck! Keep on pluggin'!

thequilteddove 05-07-2010 12:04 PM

I'm still not doing well... I'm back to my all time high of 190#s (based on dr scale). My cholesterol is on the very low end of high so I really need to get back on track before my doctor tells me I have to take some stupid medication for it *pouts*.

Gawd, it was easier to quit smoke'n cigs!

Leota 05-07-2010 01:14 PM

I seriously think that fat turns to cement as we get older... doesn't matter how hard I try... scales don't show a smaller me. :?

mama2josh 05-07-2010 04:43 PM

I'm down another pound today - for a total of 2 lbs this week. The next week and a half is going to be tough for me to stick to my WW diet - Dustin is taking me out to dinner tomorrow night for Mother's Day. Luckily Red Lobster has a "Lighthouse" menu and both a lobster tail and 1/2lb of crab legs are only 1 point each. Wednesday is Joshua's 6th birthday, and next Saturday we are having his b-day party at Chuck E Cheese. Hopefully they have a salad bar so I won't be tempted by pizza. Lucky for me, I'm not a huge cake fan.
I've worked out 3 times this week, and we took the dog for a 30 min walk last night (it was my "day-off" from working out). So I've earned back 6 points in Activity points for WW.
Tonight I am cleaning out my sewing room and trying to get it organized again. Scrap quilters: watch for posts on the appropriate board re: random fabric (mostly small/scrap pieces) that I'll be getting rid of.

Alright..... it sounds like everyone is doing good. I didn't see a loss this week, but a slight gain. It hasn't been easy for me this week, because we just moved and it's basically been grab something to eat here and there. At least, I am getting some order in the new house so I can start back on my weight loss again.

Hi-I'm confused (nothing new there). There seems to be 2 weigh in threads going: this one and the original titled "weigh in". Which one are we supposed to be posting on? Is there any way to combine them? I still look to the original because so many great tips are posted there, especially from Peach. I've never gotten any email notifications that this thread exists, found it by chance.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion (blame it on being blonde, a senior moment, or too much cough syrup LOL)
Thanks
Peace-Jan

Lneal wanted the threads split and she asked me to do this one. It was posted on the weigh in thread. SOOOOOOOOOOO if you want tips from me/Peach you have to come here as I don't think Lneal wants us posting on both threads.

Yay! I've lost 3 pounds in the last week! I'm so excited. I was really upset with my limitations on this diet last night, so knowing that it and the exercise are working helps my resolve to keep at it.

Leota 05-10-2010 02:10 PM

Good for you..............doing the happy dance ..... but the 3lbs you lost I gained. I knew I would gain weight and I didn't care. This past week has been very tough and I eat crap when I am upset. Hopefully I will get back on track ASAP!!!!!!!!!!! OH WELL tomorrow is another day!!!! (Scarlet's quote from Gone With the Wind)

Leota 05-11-2010 11:21 AM

Hey Trupeach... maybe her lost weight multiplies when shared...I also gained 3 lbs... :( Can you want to go walking with me???? We can synchronize our walks and "talk" with each other :D

mrspete 05-11-2010 11:56 AM

I wonder what is a good time between weigh-ins? I went to doc last week and today I weighed and am four pounds lower. I'm estatic, hard to loose weight. But, I am on a good program for my diabetes and I feel so good. Since I live alone, I haven't anyone to tell or share so this means a lot ot me. Thanks my friends! Y'all, keep up the positives and I'll try to do so as well. Bless ya, Ruth

Leota 05-11-2010 04:22 PM

YEAHHHHHHH Mrspete!!!!! WAY TO GO GIRL.... Keep on doing what ever you are doing.... it's working!

brushandthimble 05-11-2010 06:04 PM

I have not signed on yet, but really should.
Since hubby and I lost our jobs 14 months ago I have gained, and gained, and gained. I know I should move more and get out and walk, or do the treadmill but knowing it and doing it are two different things.
Mind if I just hang out here and maybe get some motivation??
Thanks

Trupeach.. ok. .I have seen your photos. You are not one to be flying with the weight loss program.. sheesh! I think the move alone would take that little bit anyone has out of them. I think I will be in the crane challenge.. is there a crane big enough to lift me.. sigh.. you guys crack me up.

I think you must have me confused with someone else, there are no pictures of me. Also I have lived in my house for 9 years so I don't know what move you are talking about. I weighed 214 lbs at the start of this and now weigh 189 I think I have a lot of weight to lose. So once again I think you have me confused with someone else.

Leota 05-13-2010 09:49 AM

WooHooo Way to Go!!!!

Well, I am getting back on schedule and I have loss a little but I am still a lb over what I began with on May 1. So, I have my work cut out for the next week to try and at least get that 1 lb off. Keep on going girls, we can do this one day at a time.

trupeach1 05-14-2010 12:32 PM

DD had a great big ice cream sunday last night but she couldn'y finish it. I didn't want to waste it so I finished what was left..........BIG MISTAKE but I couldn't help myself I haven't had ice cream in about 2 years.

Dinner tonight.......
Spinach salad minus the mushrooms.

Leota 05-14-2010 01:57 PM

lol trupeach... It's ok to have a little ice cream every 2 years... just keep focused on the final goal.

well it is not the ice cream every 2 years that made me fat it is eating brownies topped with raspberry and chocolate frosting everyday that made me a blimp

Leota 05-14-2010 08:55 PM

yeah but now you can start afresh :D

Leota 05-17-2010 07:39 AM

Any suggestions on keeping people that live with you from sabotaging your attempts to eat right? I made cute cakes using the cupcake mix my SQA sent me for my BD and we gobbled them down in about 15 mins. Ok, so much for "portion control"... so next idea... don't fix cake at all...save them for my Girl Scout Ceremony meeting...
Last night MOM wanted cute cakes... she said they were "just the right size" yeah right... well, I gave in and we have 4 cup cakes left this morning out of 24!!!! Yeah... I love cake without the icing and I have zero self control when it's put in front of me.... HEEEEEEEEELlllllllPPP!!!!

mrspete 05-17-2010 07:28 PM

Whether I want to or not, I have to do a follow-up at the doc tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed, eyes, legs and anything else that will twist.......hope he is pleased with my progress. They are stiff on ya at that place, so when I think I'm doing pretty good they make me feel like a sinner. If they only knew that a few years back I was over 300#'s, so this weight 222#'s is wonderful, but I still need to drop. Y'all rub a rabbits foot or something for me. Heck, bend over and pick a four-leaf-clover, snicker! My health was in jeopardy and I'm feeling so well now days. I've been reading all the comments and I think you gals are the greatest. Mostly, I cut portions, left off bread and if I had some potatos, I would not have any other starch and if I had cornbread, I always had greens....dang it, you just have to season greens!!!!!! but, I only took a small amount, mostly pot liquor for my cornbread. I got smaller dinner plate, smaller fork, drink a bottle 20 oz before a meal. The one thing I still cannot do is walk, run or use my foot much. So I'm lacking in exercise. I eat irregularly and this diabetes is a bummer. I've used artificial sweetners until I can't cheat with desserts...they make me sick. It is a lot of work. We all have to do what we can, so WE CAN! Can't we? I had a little cousin in California who had leukemia and it advanced from the treatments to lymphoma. She was a VERY big gal in girth but not really tall. We were talking one night and I said, I'll make a deal with you, I'll spit out one mouthful every meal, just for you. hahahahaha, I said, I'll put a ziplock in the deepfreezer and use it just for that. SHe gagged and said, don't do me any favors. But, secretly, I went to the toilet and spit out one mouthful every meal. I made sure it was in the middle of the meal and then by the time I got back to my food, I didn't want it. She is gone now, but she told everyone I was spitting my food for her. hahahahaha.......so gals, spit a mouthful out just for me! but don't send it to me. G'nite Ruth

Leota 05-17-2010 08:18 PM

Ruth,
I'm praying that you have a good report and good weight loss.
Exercise...since you can't walk. sit in a straight back chair and march in place. Lifting your legs as if you are marching... yes it really works :D it is strengthening your legs. There are numerous chair exercises that will help you with your "mobility". Try using stevia for your non-sugar sweetener. I am severely allergic to all artificial sweeteners and Stevia gives me the sweetness without affecting my glucose levels :D. Hang in there friend.. I want to here from "less" of you :D and you will reach that goal.

mama2josh 05-18-2010 09:13 AM

I totally fell off my diet and exercise program this weekend, what with DS's birthday party and all. But I'm back and ready to get going again. Made a delicious roast chicken last night with fresh rosemary from my garden. It's such a great feeling to be able to step out my back door for ingredients!
On a completely unrelated note, I went shopping with my son's father yesterday. This is a big improvement for us. We've been split up for 3 years, and my new bf and I have been together for a year (known each other for 7, he was actually my ex's best friend since they were 14). Had a fantastic conversation with my ex, he and his gf just split and he called ME to talk about it. I never thought we'd get to that point of being friends again, so I am super happy. Makes life much easier when we are getting along and it's nice to know we've finally reached a point where we can be friends again without all the stress we used to have. He is a great guy, we just weren't (and aren't) compatible. And my BF approves of the ex and I being friends, so it was a good day all around. Sorry, I know it's off topic, but I just had to share with someone. :-)

mama2josh 05-18-2010 11:26 AM

Just weighed myself - I've lost 5 lbs this month! :-)

mrspete 05-18-2010 06:47 PM

Awwwww, how nice of you Leota. Thanks a million. Well the visit went well. No weight loss but then nothing gained either. Had so much walking to do to get to the office that my feet are so painful tonight that I could not eat. I work during meal times and I didn't get to eat on time. That is the hard part, regulate my hours. Gotta work when work is available. Sometimes I could do about anything but right now......I'm at the mercy of another human being.I'm hoping you all have been successful today.

Blessings, Ruth

Ruth - Is that a picture of your dog?? I want him/her. She/he is so cute - I want it now!!! Oh well, I tried.

I am so discouraged - I have gained almost 3 lbs back. I just can not stop eating. Everyday I wake up and say I am going to start over today. I take the dog and do my 2.5 mile walk - breakfast is fine, lunch is kinda okay, but come around 3 - forget it. I am munching away while making dinner - and then it is pretty good after dinner. May have a fruit or WW cookie. I just can not believe that I am so weak that I have to eat so much to gain 3 lbs. This is a really stupid question, but we have nurses on this site. I am on Orencia and I notice that as soon as I have the infusion - this weight gain starts up. This couldn't have anything to do with it - could it. I don't think so - if I could cut out 3:00 to 6:00 I would be okay. Okay enough complaining --- tomorrow starts a new day.

I am so proud of all you ladies - you are doing so good. Wow Keep up the good work.

Carole

janRN 05-19-2010 04:42 AM

Carole: we don't do Orencia infusions at our office but some of our patients are on it. One of the side effects that most of them mention is nausea for 4-5 days after the infusion. Could you be experiencing nausea and mistaking it for hunger? Maybe try a few crackers or drinking some gingerale when you first feel this symptom and see if that satisfies the feeling. This is just my humble opinion. There are drugs that definitely increase appetite, steroids (Prednisone) being one. Ask your infusionist the next time and see if other pts feel hunger. I'm not on rx but 3:00 is my worst time no matter what I eat for lunch. Soup, veggies, and something light were suggested (sometimes it helps, sometimes I eat 1/2 pound of cheese before supper>)

I'm not sure I answered your question but meds affect all body systems so I'm sure the Orencia is doing that. Good luck-hope the rx works. If I find out any more info I'll let you know and please do the same--I like to be able to answer questions my patients have.
