What do/did you call your mother? and what do/did your kids call you?

When I was little, my mother was "Mommy"
When I was older, she was "Mom"

Two of my kids call me "Mom" - two of them call me "Madre" - occasionally I will get "Muh-THER" from one of the last two. They might have called me "Mommy" when they were little, but I really don't remember for sure.

marge954 07-20-2017 10:48 AM

Always called her mother. My boys have always called me mom.

tuckyquilter 07-20-2017 11:22 AM

Mother, but that was using the term loosely. However when I hear the name GRANDMA, my heart skips a beat, I get all happy inside and have the best memories ever. Same with my grandma's sisters, my two great aunts and the great-aunt sisters in law. I LOVED those women to pieces.

NZquilter 07-20-2017 11:44 AM

I always called her Mum... I guess when I was little she was Mummy. My little daughter calls me Mama, but she is just learning to talk, so that could change next month, lol!

Annaquilts 07-20-2017 11:54 AM

I called my mother mama and my children call me mama.

notmorecraft 07-20-2017 12:38 PM

I called my mum, mum, my two mostly call me mum, but my youngest sometimes calls me Norman(my name is Norma) lol

lynnie 07-20-2017 12:42 PM

I called my mom, mom,my son called me meme when he was small. I later realized he was trying to say mommy. he calls me mom now

zozee 07-20-2017 12:45 PM

I called my mom "Mommy" when I was little, but when we were older we wanted to shorten it to "Mom." She didn't want to be called "Mom" for some reason. She preferred "Mama" so that's what we called her.

My kids call me "Mom" except for my teenager. When he wants something badly , or when he's really hurting (like his appendix on the verge of rupturing) he calls me "Mommy." Sometimes when he's in a really good mood it's "Hello, Mother," to which I say, "Hello, Son."

toverly 07-20-2017 03:08 PM

Mama, but I'm Mom.

Sleepy Hollow 07-20-2017 03:27 PM

Mom and mom. I have an only child, and I always thought it was funny when he would leave a message on my phone and say "Hi, mom, it's me (name)." Maybe he got that from me leaving messages for my parents? (Sometimes one sister and I sound similar, so names are good on messages.)

canmitch1971 07-20-2017 06:57 PM

I called my Mother Maman....we spoke French
My Grandkids call me Grammie

patsan 07-20-2017 11:04 PM

Mom for both

DebbieJJ 07-21-2017 12:13 AM

I call mine Mama, but since I don't have children or step-children, I'm Aunt Deb to all our nieces and nephews, and to their children also. My sister and I favor so much that her grandchildren sometimes call me "Grandmommy" by mistake. I don't mind (and I don't ask her if she does). :)

cannyquilter 07-21-2017 12:15 AM

My daughter calls me Mum, my son calls me Boots it's a play on my maiden name. My grandchildren call me Granny except for the 2 year old who calls me Ninnie, I've noticed the older one starting to use it too so I may end up Ninnie.

cannyquilter 07-21-2017 12:19 AM

I called my mother Mam.

copycat 07-21-2017 02:00 AM

I call my mother, "Mom". My 3 kids called me Mommy when they were little. Now adults, they call me, "Mom".

Moonglow 07-21-2017 02:08 AM

I called my mother Mum. My children call me Mum.

Gerbie 07-21-2017 03:39 AM

I called my Mother, Mother don't remember ever calling her anything else. My brother always called her mama. My two call me Mom. I had to laugh when I read Sleepy Hollow's thread, about the phone call. When our son calls and leaves a message, he always says "it's me" - he lives 500 miles away, so we don't get to see him often. When our daughter calls she usually says in a cute way "this is your daugh--ter" and some times says "Mom this and her name or hey Mom it's me". Both are single, so no grand children. I never really thought much about it until this thread began.

illinois 07-21-2017 04:08 AM

I was told that, when I was very little, I called my mother "Mimmy". While I outgrew it, it stuck with my dad and it was his favorite name for her until he passed away at the age of 85.

SusieQOH 07-21-2017 04:41 AM

Mom and Momma - same with my kids. Once in awhile I call her Marie for a laugh

Awww, that reminds me of Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes)

I call my mother "Mama". If I'm talking to someone else I refer to her as Mom or "my mother". My son called me Mommy when he was little. Now he calls me Mom. My sister's children are grown and still call her Mama. She said she never felt like "Mom" but "Mama". Oddly I never felt like "Mama".

I have no grandchildren. I will let my son decide what they call me when and if he has children. He called MIL "Grandmama". My mother is known as Grandmother, thanks to my father's formal family. My grandmothers were "Grandmother" and "Granny".

I would prefer Grandma, Granny or Grandmama over Grandmother or Mimi or Gigi.

Wanabee Quiltin 07-21-2017 05:27 AM

Always called her Mom, called her mother, Grandma. My kids always called me Mom and now my grandkids call me Grandma. Youngest son will occasionally call me Mama, but it's usually in a joking manner.

Kitsie 07-21-2017 06:43 AM

Mum (i'm Canadian of British family tree) and known as Nana!

janjanq 07-21-2017 06:43 AM

My daughters always called me "Mumma, Mumma,Mumma" repeatedly until I'd finally yell "whaaaaat!" .

Chasing Hawk 07-21-2017 07:04 AM

I call my Mother "Mom.
My two older kids called me by my first name up until they were teenagers, now I am Mom.

QuiltnNan 07-21-2017 08:06 AM

when my mom was tiny, her grandmother asked her to call her mother 'Dear'. mom couldn't pronounce that - only Dee. so that forever became my grandmother's name.

mopec 07-21-2017 08:17 AM

I always called my mother "Mommy". When I was a teenager I thought that sounded babyish until the day I heard my Grandma refer to her mother as "Mommy". I called my mother "Mommy" until the day she died. :) My three grown daughters all call me Moma, my spelling. The all have their own way of spelling it so when I sign, I use my way of combining. I used Grandma for both grandmothers. My grandkids use Mas, Masy, Grandma, or Grammy. None were ever allowed to address me by my name, Phyllis! We think Mas originated from the oldest grandchild going to "grandmas".

Cactus Stitchin 07-21-2017 08:47 AM

I called my mother Mom. I have two step-children that call me Mom2 if their biological mother is present, otherwise they call me Mom.

misspriss 07-21-2017 10:19 AM

Mother and mom

Boston1954 07-21-2017 10:34 AM

She was always Mom. I have no kids. My cats call me Meow. :)

judy363905 07-21-2017 10:46 AM

I was an only child for 10 years, when I was very young I began called my Mother "Mother Dear" and did so until her passing at 83 years. My sister always called her "Mom". Our first grandson called me "Baa Koo" ? We never knew why
But fun to tease him about that, he will be 28 this year

madamekelly 07-21-2017 10:52 AM

For the first five years, before she took off permanently, she was mommy, after that she was just gone.

bevans41 07-21-2017 11:00 AM

I always called my mother "mama and thats what my girls have always called me.

nativetexan 07-21-2017 11:14 AM

Oh my Mother was always Mother. My Father was Daddy. I thought I would never mind what my grandkids call me but Grandmother isn't one of them. For some reason, i do prefer that but no such luck. Great grandsons too! It really doesn't' matter, just that they call me. My son calls me Mom.

Sleepy Hollow 07-21-2017 03:10 PM

With the expansion to grandparents... Mine have always been gramma and grampa. I spell it like I say it, no matter how often spellcheck tries to tell me I'm wrong.

marietta 07-21-2017 09:12 PM

My siblings and I called our Mother , Moma, but we each had a different way to spell it, lol. My daughters called me Moma when little Now it's just Mom. The grands call me MeMe ( a nickname from childhood, its what all my neices and nephews call me also)

cashs_mom 07-22-2017 12:21 AM

I called my mom "Mommy" when I was little and then "Mom" when I was older. The Grandma's were Gramma Frances and Gramma Mitchell. Don't ask me why we called one by her first name and on by her last. That's just what we called them. It might have been because my mom never liked my dad's mother and always tried to keep us from being too close to her.

Reba'squilts 07-22-2017 03:47 AM

We called our mother mummy for years. Switched to Mom or Madre when I became a young teen. MUmmy was for little kids! My grandchildren call me by different names, Manueau, or Reba. Sometimes one of the little boys will call me Gramma, but that is teasing on their part. It is one of my favorite names!!!

purplefiend 07-22-2017 04:43 AM

My kids call me Mom. I called my mother, Mama or Mother-Mom(when I was a teen), I'm one of 5 kids; so it was often hard to get her attention.
