i think it means that you are incredibly lucky. i never get butterflies in my weed patch, er, garden.

Suzi 04-11-2011 02:59 PM

Those are Swallowtails and they are probably on their migration route back to the northeast. Very pretty! My sister is in Wickenburg - will have to ask her if she's seeing them.

I'd say it's inspiration for a new quilt for you to make.

And if you need a little more inspiration ... here's a quilt I made last year for a wedding gift.

Backyard Butterflies (aka the back of the quilt)

OK, Girls--- I am having a hard time here, because there is a butterfly machine like these at the casino and I saw a lady playing and all these butterflys covered the screen and she had just sat down and it gave yer $400 and some dollars. It is 14 miles from here, should I just stay home and sew or?????

sewingsuz 04-11-2011 03:29 PM

Wow , this is real pretty, thanks for sharing. I love it.

Thanks! :)

The colours (on my monitor at least) are not very good.
Most of the butterflies are bright and vivid.
They are flying around on a moss? olive? green background.
The printed fabric is a soft yellow background with the greens, taupes and butterflies.

The backing is the green and yellow with the fussy cut butterfly squares and leftover pieced butterflies.

The butterfly print?

I had bought it sometime ahead with no intention as to what ... just fell in love with it. They had been promoting it for a quilt kit/course at the LQS and it might even have been the Turning Twenty.

Then one day I saw a pattern which I didn't follow at all ....... though it was the inspiration to create this one!

Three butterflies at once?

Maybe you need to "Pay it forward three times"
Or there are 3 things you're neglecting
Possibly three different people need to hear from you

I'll bet if you did those three things you'd feel great and by this time next week - you'll probably know what it meant.

Ileen 04-11-2011 09:24 PM

That is just Beautiful!!!!! Love your Pictures.

Anne P 04-11-2011 09:41 PM

I'm so jealous because it's still cool and cloudy here in Seattle. Some things are starting to bloom, but nothing as bright as yours in my yard.Oh well, our turn will come - or so they say! Hope it's warmer than last sprng and summer this year.

earthwalker 04-11-2011 09:49 PM

Caterpillars???? Seriously now, lovely pic...very Spring...unlike our Autumn (we need more rain). Gorgeous quilt too. Thanks for the lovely pics.

crafty_linda_b 04-11-2011 09:53 PM

I think they stopped by your yard to make your day a little brighter. Then you shared them with all of us. Made me smile!! :-) crafty_linda+b

i raised them last year, with my 3 year old grandson. i had to plant milk weed in a pot, so they would lay thier eggs..we bought a plastic hamster container, and put the eggs in and watch them transform. it was sooo exciting, Jack put his little finger in there when they turned to butterflies, and got to release them!

Babs194068 04-12-2011 03:30 AM

Lucky you

QuilterChick 04-12-2011 04:03 AM

I'd say you're blessed ! and take it as a sign to stay out of that casino. :)

Shelbie 04-12-2011 04:13 AM

This means that you definately do not live in Canada. Most of my snow is gone but we have dead grass, mud, frost in the ground and not a hint of flowers although I did find a few spring bulbs showing a little life. It's only very early spring here.

Yooper32 04-12-2011 04:47 AM

Saw two float through here yesterday. Butterflies, yellow swallowtails, not quilts. I was elated.

Most exotic or domestic breeds of butterflies are drawn to bright vibrant colors and it also a sign of good luck....about 4 hours from me is a place called "Wings"..a conservatory for 8000 species of butterflies..

Blessings and Love to you!

redkimba 04-12-2011 05:58 AM

wildyard 04-12-2011 06:02 AM

It clearly means you do not live in Upstate NY!! LOL

pollym44 04-12-2011 07:43 AM

There were some worms somewhere. I HATE worms and don't like butterflies because I KNOW what the were!!

patski 04-12-2011 08:21 AM

annpryor 04-12-2011 10:27 AM

Jshep 04-12-2011 11:01 AM

I saw some over the weekend in my yard. I also saw lightening bugs. Couldn't believe it. I always thought they only came out in the summer.

lynnie 04-12-2011 11:31 AM
