Yikes. I was going to ask $300 for my 1957 FW in perfect working order, looks fantastic, has extra attachments (buttonholer, zigzag) and a clean case... and my friend thinks I'm nuts. I wonder what he would ask for it?!?

I don't think you're nuts at all. I bought mine from a dealer and payed $275. It's in really nice shape as is the case but no attachments came with it.

But it is not original..The drawer on the lower right doesn't have the same design and the other ones.

You're right. I didn't notice that.

amazing.....on the flip side, I've gotten some beautiful sewing machines on craigslist in my area (Long Island's Suffolk County) for practically pennies!! I don't think I'll ever buy another brand new machine!!
The last purchase was from a lovely young woman who was selling her dear grandmother's machine. She had no interest in sewing, but said she just sold her home and had to seriously downsize. She had tears in her eyes as I was 'testing' the machine. I asked her what her grandmother's name was and when she said "Maria", I told her that's what I would call this new beauty and promised to love it as much as her grandma did! We exchanged emails and I send her occasional photos of the quilts and clothing I complete on it.

I saw this on CL and said just that same comment to my DD; "he must be smoking something bad" !

Of course we all know he'll never sell it at that price (or even close).

He's a dreamer - I just bought a 1951 singer, original cabinet and stool and all the accessories for $5 at a rummage sale - and it works great.

Well he'll be putting that one in his museum!! He quite obviously doesn't want to sell it!

Whoo, brother! I have a beautiful Montgomery Ward Damascus Grand treadle machine, and only paid $50 for it on an estate auction. I really hope the seller rethinks his request....he may have it for awhile otherwise.
