Hi,

I thought this would be fun to find out what other crafts we make. Please introduce yourself and tell us what crafts you enjoy.

craftybear 01-27-2010 10:44 PM

Hi,

I am Karen "Craftybear" and I live in Indiana, USA. I am 53 years old and loves to make all types of crafts.
crochet, some knitting, painting (oils, acrylics, pen and ink, watercolor), sewing, spinning yarn on spinning wheel and drop spindles, weaving and learning my embroidery machine and oh yes Quilting!

Ok, who is next?

BeachBirdie 01-28-2010 03:31 AM

I'm Robin from Va Beach. I used to cross stitch years ago. I also crochet but haven't in a while...probably a year or so. I don't know if cooking is considered (sp?) a craft or not but I love to cook.

sassey 01-28-2010 03:42 AM

I'm Sherri from Mo I do beadwork, jewelry as well as clothing, crochet. cross stitch. needlepunch.scrapbooking and work with clay.

tlrnhi 01-28-2010 04:08 AM

Well, I think pretty much everyone knows me...hehe.
I used to do alot of knitting, nothing fancy, mainly afghans, but since quilting has taken over my life, that's pretty much all I do.
Every once in a while I do get some cross stitching done.
Once we get back to the states, I will be able to get back into gardening. I love flowers and pretty much harvesting all veggies, but haven't been able to do that lately since I've been living on a rock and now a pebble.

Darlene 01-28-2010 04:21 AM

I crochet mostly doilies and do stitchery.

*QuilterWannabee* 01-28-2010 04:24 AM

I make dried flower/herb/oil filled drawer sachets.

shaverg 01-28-2010 04:34 AM

I use to cross stitch and I crochet.

Elisabrat 01-28-2010 04:43 AM

Aside from the above (except knitting I am HORRIBLE at knitting and its not considered a craft when I do it).. I can fruit. Jam, jellies, pie fillings..

Elisabrat 01-28-2010 04:44 AM

ok water color, painting, coating almost anything in glitter, card making, fabric basket making.. um.. what have they not invented you can make yet? I havent done that.

Miss Kitty 01-28-2010 05:15 AM

Hi, I like to crochet (haven't done that in years, just picked it back up this winter. I make dollies, baby stuff,
rugs, etc. I like to sew different crafts, gardening, canning all those veggie. Working with my flowers in summer.

QuiltingGrannie 01-28-2010 05:28 AM

Since I've been quilting (Since Aug '09) I've not done much of my other craft/hobby work. But... I crochet (Granny Square afghans), scrapbook, photography, glass etching (without chemicals, I use a dremil tool), wood burn, paper burn (same technique as wood burn, but on watercolor paper). I used to cross stitch.
I have also written poetry since a teenager (not much lately) and have written two books - not published.
I'm sure there is more, but can't think of it at the moment. Oh, I also sew things such as cell phone carriers, check book covers, and used to make my own clothes.
I just love being creative.

Lockeb 01-28-2010 05:35 AM

I used to do so many things - I did the Craft Show circuit for about 15 years or so - home decor sewing was my main focus - pillows, table runners, table cloths, dinner napkins, and Christmas decorations like tree skirts, stockings, etc.....
I would do a lot of throws as well, including Quillows...
I also did different kinds of pincushions; decorative fabrics ones and others using resin figurines to try to get a bit of a vintage style....
I used to make little miniature dry flowers arrangings in little frames, also I have done cross stitch, ribbon embroidery - some larger pieces but a lot of mini-framed ones.....
I am now getting in to primitive stitchery - absolutely adore it....
I also used to do Faux-Stained glass..loved that as well...
And making Christmas ornaments were a lot of fun....
I am sure that there were lots of other things but I just can't remember them now - but during the craft show days - there was always something new to try and you always wanted to have a variety of things to fill your booth..it was a lot of fun....I miss those days....
Now though, I'll still do home decor times for myself and a scatter customer when I get the request....I am getting into the primitve stitchery - but my real passion is still patchwork and quilting - it's a blast....

deedles215 01-28-2010 05:46 AM

We are a breed, aren't we?! Birds of a feather, I guess!
Quilting, watercolor, card-making/paper crafts, crochet, cross stitch, floral designing, displays... and I absolutely, positively, am obsessed with cooking. I want to go to culinary school (oh, the dream, sigh), art school, graphic design school, take quilting classes, get floral accredidation... need I go on?!

Ms Grace 01-28-2010 05:49 AM

Besides quilting, I do some crocheting, sewing and I love trying out new bread recipes. :-)

montanaquilter 01-28-2010 06:03 AM

Hi my name is Lee....and I'm a quilting addict!! Years ago I did cross stitch and stamping, now not so much. In the fall I do enjoy canning and making my jams, jellies and salsa!! But my passion and addiction right now is quilting and buying fabric!! One thing that I am going to try is pajama pants for my daughter-that should be easy enough for me to do.

samroberts01 01-28-2010 07:25 AM

I am most like some of the others, I have loved art my whole life and love to draw, I went to college for a little while to get my art degree, was into graphic design in highschool, I like to paint, but since I have 3 little ones it is hard to find quite time to sit down for hours and draw or paint. So I mainly do kids crafts alot, I scrapbook with the kids mainly dont have time to do my own. And now I am totally an addict to this site and quilting!! I am getting ready to start my 3rd quilt since I started in December.

Katrine 01-28-2010 08:21 AM

Have been doing some x-stitch today for a change - a piece I fear will never get finished because I prefer quilting. I have done knitting in the later evenings making dog coats for a couple of dog charities in Spain. I like (fine) crochet as well, but find I don't have the patience for that now.

canmitch1971 01-28-2010 09:42 AM

I have done decorative painting also called tole painting and was quite good at it but I lost interest when I started quilting.

redrummy 01-28-2010 09:46 AM

Hi, we are a crafty group that is for sure. I have dabbled in painting, no drawing ability, but painting what is drawn, shading and such, I knit, crochet, just simple things, blankets, doll clothes, no pattern, just make it up as I go. I love making craft things, when the kids were little we made all kinds of things, Christmas ornaments, valentine & Easter decorations, plastic canvas for many years, polymer clay, wood burning, sewing, made my daughter dresses, and made foam chairs for the kids and their dolls. I made my sisters bridesmaid dress, and my daughters flower child dress once. Now I am learning my embroidery machine.

barbsbus 01-28-2010 11:06 AM

I like to try almost anything a person can make with out a lot of expensive equipement or tools. I am lucky to have a 8' x 10' hip roof hobby shed in our back yard where I have small woodworking tools, small lathe, drill press, sanders, dremel tools, tabletop router and then we have a tablesaw in our car porch. I make a lot of puzzles and toys, marrinettes, dust collectors, bowls, candle sticks, all kinds of things I see in magazines. I like to combine my sewing skills with the wood work. At the present time I am getting ready to do several presentations to some garden clubs on making topiary frames from poultry netting. I am going to make some CDs that members can purchase on how to make the topiaries. It has been a real learning experiece making this CD.
I also enjoy working on Power Point files of all the kids, grandkids and now great grandkids. I am also making files on some of my gardening projects, I love to work in the yard and like to do before and after pictures of some of the plantings.
It seems there are never enough hours in the day to all the things that are on my mind to do. I also like to knit, crochet and I just started to make a braided rug.

MNQuilter 01-28-2010 11:16 AM

Let's see, besides quilting, I sew other things, refinish furniture, crochet, paint, quilt some more, and lots of kids crafts. I've tried and flopped at cross stitch. Think I'll stick with where I'm at right now!

RedGarnet222 01-28-2010 01:07 PM

Oh how fun to "hear" all about the other hobbies everyone has.

I enjoy gardening/landscaping, cooking, all types of sewing including home deco, crocheting, crafts of all types and painting/drawing. I also enjoy all types of camera, computer and tech toys.

pookie ookie 01-28-2010 01:19 PM

Had to quit hand sewing, knitting and crochet due to inability to see stitches.

That pretty much leaves me with machine sewing, painting, remodeling and gardening.

I love quilting first.
Before quilting, and sometimes now...I made a LOT of clothing, some stuffed animals, pillows, home dec stuff.
I love to draw, but seldom do it, unless i need an applique or I will draw for my grandbaby.
She and i do lots of kids crafts. If i could put a picture on here, right now, I would show you the snowman we made with cotton balls and a medicine bottle.
I like cross stitch, though, again, i seldom do it.
I have canned a lot of things, and in cold weather I love to bake.
i have decorated some cakes, and i like to write whimsical poems.
Some of them have been on this board
There are horizons waiting to be explored, but...when it comes to fabrics: I are addicted

MarthaVA 01-28-2010 04:44 PM

Hi, I'm Martha. I have done a lot of things, but haven't really stuck with it all.
Right now, my 2 major things are quilting (i'm a beginner) and card making with rubber stamps and stuff.
I have crocheted, cross stitched, made jewelry, sewn clothes (not very well tho), sewn book covers, I used to embroider my own jeans (in high school - in the 70s), I make Rhythm Beads for horses to wear (although I haven't done much lately), I have horses (they take time), photography, and probably a bunch of other stuff that i can't even remember.

I seem to be really good at new stuff, then my interest wanes. I hope its not like that with this - I am really enjoying the sewing and quilting - the artistic side of it is fun.

dakotamaid 01-28-2010 04:54 PM

I do counted cross stitch and some needlepoint. I like to keep my hands busy when we are on the road. Besides quilting those are all the crafts that I've done. For many years I also made my own clothes but that stopped with kids!! :D

Chasing Hawk 01-28-2010 04:54 PM

Besides being semi new to quilting, I sew clothes for the grandkids, cook, garden and work on trucks. I just put the carpeting in my husband's 53 ford pickup. This weekend I am going to install new points and all the goodies that go along with it. And my husband is going to work on the transfer case.
Oh, and making a ninja costume for the cat, she informed me this morning that is her new profession.

sewnsewer2 01-28-2010 05:31 PM

I embroider, quilt, make purses, (various sewing crafts). I used to cross stitch and crochet but have become alergic to the yarn until after it gets washed  so can't do that anymore.

I scrapbook sometimes.

LOL - this sounds like an AA meeting. Hi, my name is Kathy and I'm a fabricholic.

My crafts are many. I'm a floral designer (owned my own store for 10 years). I make miniature pictures with artificial flowers in shadowbox frames. I do stained glass. I knit and crochet. I do counted cross stitch and needle point. I've sewn garments since I was about 8 years old and love sewing. I did a couple of weddings (just the bridesmaids and flower girls)) and decided that sewing for others was not my thing. I do make slacks and jammies for the grandkids but that's the extent of making clothes for others, unless halloween costumes count. I've done reupholstering. I make drapes and curtains. I make quilts, tapestry tree skirts (everyone in the family has one but me), table runners, place mats, hot pads, lamp pads, and anything related. I taught quilting classes for a fabric store. I like to sculpt. I refinish furniture. I collect Hallmark Ornaments. I make a holiday ornament every year for family and friends. And with all the little ones, lots of kids crafts right now.

craftybear 01-28-2010 05:59 PM

QuiltMania 01-28-2010 06:11 PM

Ok, here goes...
Besides quilting, crochet, needlepoint, lacemaking (still suck at this), hand spinning, canning, scrapbooking, cake making, candy making, bread making, rug hooking. That's about it.

Beachbound 01-29-2010 07:46 PM

Hi my name is Dody and yes, Kathy I'm a fabricholic too.
Besides quilting and sewing I enjoy stamping/cardmking/scrapbooking. I got into that hobby when I saw that I could finish a project in just a few hours! WOW! the appeal that had for me!!!! I've tried just about everything else but always come back to quilting & stamping. If you think fabric collecting is addictive you should see my stamps & decorative paper collection....geeze

Boston1954 01-29-2010 08:09 PM

Writing poetry (201 so far), photography, collecting blue glassware, and I used to crochet and cross stitch.

Hi! My name is Nancy and I also enjoy doing a lot of crafts. I do quilting, sewing, painting, knitting, crochet. I've done cross stitch, needlepoint, tatting - just about everything other than scrapbooking and jewelry making.

My mother taught me to sew when I was a small child. I made my prom dresses, a lot of my clothes and I even made my wedding dress.

The thing I'm most proud of is my cake business. I sell celebration cakes and wedding cakes. I've had my business for a couple of years. Although I'm not busy every week, it does give me a small income which I often use to fund my other interests!!

Here are a couple of my favorite wedding cakes:

sewnsewer2 01-30-2010 06:47 AM

Grammynan those are just beautiful!! I love watching the wedding cake shows on TV. Your's look just as beautiful, I'm sure your clients were very happy!

littlehud 01-30-2010 12:16 PM

I used to do cross stitch and crocheting. Since I found quilting these have fallen to the wayside. I may start again someday.

Margie 01-30-2010 08:32 PM

I used to do a lot of different things, hand embroidery, a little crochet, and lots of knitting. Now I mostly sew and machine embroider, knit sometimes. I enjoy knitting because it is so portable, great for car travel.
