The older I get, the more convinced I am that the "more basic" models of almost all appliances survive longer than the "top of the line/loaded" ones do.

I usually aim for the mid-range when we buy.

Sometimes I avoid the "fanciest" ones because they seem too complex for me to operate without a manual.

So, Love2Craft, what machine did you buy?

Washing machines don't seem to be made to last like they used to. We had a Maytag "commercial" but it only lasted about 8 years before it needed a very expensive repair. We went with a top loading "Speed Queen Commercial Heavy Duty" because both service men who provided the Maytag repair estimates said Speed Queen was the best. I like the Speed Queen because although it has a "water saver" feature, I have the option of choosing the amount of water used, resulting in MUCH cleaner clothes than I was pulling out of the Maytag.
