Is your house carpeted? My son's border collie drove us crazy with his scratching. His skin finally became infected. Our Vets worked with us constantly to try and help this poor animal. Finally my son moved to a place that has no carpeting. Needless to say he does not scratch. If he comes to visit though, within just a few minutes of being here he resumes scratching. The skin being scratched open leads to skin infections that become extremely smelly and irritating. Please check your carpeting for this animals sake.

Do not DO NOT put antibacterial gel on your dog. My DGD rubbed some on my dog and the poor dog was sick for two days. It absorbed in her skin and she vomited and had diarrhea all day. Not much was rubbed on her at all but just a little will cause severe distress.

In addition to all the good advise here, do not give your dog milk or dairy by-products they also can cause allergic reactions, hope you find something that helps from fellow board members.

My friend who is a vet and shows dogs gave me this tip...add one teaspoon of cooking oil, Canola, into the animals food (once a day) and this will make a difference. I tried it with my dogs and it really works.

One thing I have found that work is Anti-Itch Spray.
You can find it at Petsmarts or Petco. It has a yellow label with red. Its steriod free it works on both cats or dogs.

I can't give Elly May(toy poodle) any dog food so she eats hamburger, veggies and anything we eat with out preservatives. She itches and licks her feet that drives me insane so I treat her feet with suffodine(get at walmart in pet section)She is allergic to alot. But seems better when on an antibiotic. You might check into an internal infection some where with your pet.

Could also be habit, I inherited a dog from an alzheimic and he just scratched, after all the tests which revealed nothing,so I used to spray [a short sharp burst] with fresh water and eventually he stopped.
Also, tea tree/lavender oil mixed with water rubbed on soothes.

She could be allergic to something in her food, even if it is the same brand she has had for a long time, company may have changed the formula. Don't bathe her, that will dry out her skin even more.
