I, too, am reading Fern Michaels' Sisterhood series. I found them all on E-bay, and I am pleased I can read them in order and not have to hunt for the next book.

I'm reading Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens. It is a LONG read....

Dreamcatcher by Stephen King - missed this one when it came out.

borntoquilt 06-25-2011 08:31 AM

just starting The Christmas Quilt. # 8 in the Elm Creek Quilts series. Love these books! Nice read plus learning a lot about the underground railroad.... Thanks QB for suggesting them.

"The Help" on Kindle, soon to be a movie. Before that I read "Water for Elephants" and they both are very good. I've been picking up old books from the Jean Auel "Earth's Children" series lately ~ have a craving to read some of the older stuff from established authors.

The Snowman, Jo Nesbo's newest mystery. Excellent, one can, as I do, skip the gorey parts.

You can find most all of Jean Auels book on Amazon, then under used books. I have gotten my books that way all the time. I have never recieved a book that was in poor conditon. I need to read hardcover because I cant see the print in paperbacks. Also I have not paid over 10.00 for a book. Good luck her books open up a whole new world.

I'm reading The Elephant Keeper. So far it is so good. It takes place in the late 1700's when most people had never seen an elephant, and written like it was actually written in that time period. Very different and interesting. It's not my usual fair, but I am so enjoying it.

I am reading "Mr. Murder", one of Dean Koontz older books I somehow missed. It has been hard to put down!.
Before that I read, "The Kept Woman" by Susan Donovan. Not the kind of book I usually read but I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
I also recently read "The House of Thunder", another older Dean Koontz book. It had a really surprising twist at the end.

I have that book and haven't started reading it yet. I guess I will set it out for my next serious reading!

StitchinJoy 06-25-2011 05:15 PM

I just finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and just started the sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire. They are really wellplotted mysteries but quite different from anything I've ever read.

I remember reading "Mr. Murder" after a good friend had recommended it! It was great, a little scary even, but very hard to put down, I agree!...

Any Stephen King fan should look up a new writer named Jonathan Face. He has a book on the "free" Kindle list, called "Catharsis". When you are reading you will swear that this is King using another pseudonym, but after checking it out ~ there really IS a young man who has captured the essence of King's writings, and will be making a name for himself! I read it and it's great! (if you like King).

Interesting Times by Terry Pratchett. (love that man)

QuiltQtrs 09-21-2011 01:08 PM

You're kidding .... as I always have at least 6 books in various stages of being
read. But here goes:
In the Garden of the Beast (Eric Larson) Americans in pre-WWII Germany
Running to the Mountain (Jon Katz) One man's spiritual retreat
This Land is Their Land (Barbara Ehrenreich) Reports from a Divided Nation
The Slaves' War (Andrew Ward) Civil war in words of former slaves
The Fifties (A Woman's Oral History) (Brett Harvey) Our life before the feminist movement
On the Edge of Darkness (Kathy Cronkite) Conversations about conquering depression
My daily reading depends on my "mood"

just finished Wait Till Next Year, a memoir by Doris Kearns Goodwin about growing up in the 50s loving the Brooklyn Dodgers. It was charming.

canmitch1971 09-22-2011 05:16 PM

I just finished reading Cutting for Stone (Abraham Verghese) The Help (Kathryn Stockett) and Sarah's Key(Tatiana de Rosnay) They were all excellent.

I feel like such a slacker ... although in my own defense I have to do a lot of serious technical reading for my job - which is in a very male dominated environment. So, I'm reading Stephanie Laurens ... Viscount Breckinrigdge to the Rescue. Trashy and light.

I'm also reading the Extraordinary Adventures of Ordinary Boy - my boys (age 10 and 9) and I are in a Boy / Mom bookclub.

I am reading Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion and Purpose by Tony Hsieh. It's the story of zappos.com, the online shoe website, and there's also more about his early years and experiences with entrepreneurship.

Before that, I read Delectable Mountains, one of Earlene Fowler's mysteries.

mommafank 09-23-2011 06:44 AM
