hiponyfarm-sounds like a wonderful day. I have hosted Thanksgiving for years, I have 8 siblings,so at times we have had 40 people. I don't think they realize how much work is involved.I scaled back 2 years ago, just don't want to do it any longer. This year just our son, and a friend of his, my youngest brother and his family, my 85 yr old dad. For me the best part of Thanksgiving is a turkey sandwich about 8 pm, has to be on cheap white bread with butter. having our son home is also at top of list.

Going to FL for an early T'giving with my Dad (he's 91) and my family. Feeding about 60 people. We started doing that several years ago. Works out great. .We get together and see Dad and everyone still gets to do T'giving with their own families (since we are all live in different places. Then T'giving at my house with my MIL and our kids and their families. Feeding 12 or so. Lots of cooking and eating!

We will be in Texas in the Rio Grande Valley for the winter and will have dinner with over 100 set up in families. It is always so nice and very decorative. If we do not do that this year we will have a little private dinner on our patio with dear friends and this really sounds like the one I would like to do.

I'm staying home alone and quilting!! One of my BFFs who is now divorced might come over for company but I'm not cooking....lol.
I don't really like turkey so I won't miss it. All my kids are going to their in-laws out of town so this will be my year to relax.

OmaForFour 10-20-2011 04:16 AM

I will go to my daughter's. She as almost 12 yo b/g twins. Another couple with 2 boys who don't have any family here join us each year. So there will be 10 of us. I give my daughter the choice of what she wants me to make and bring over. Then I add to the list. LOL. I usually end up making cranberry sauce, dressing in a pan (if she decides to fry the turkey), and several veggies and a pie or cake. I like doing it this way because it takes the strain off my daughter having to do the other dishes. The other "daughter" who comes with her family brings some dishes also. It truly is a groaning board and we have a wonderful time.
We get together like this on Christmas Day also.
On Christmas Eve we go to Church with my daughter and family. Then back to her house (which is close to the Church) along with Church friends. The twins get to put their onaments on the tree which I make for them each year (til they are 21!), we have a glass of wine and snacks and go home. Christmas Day we descend on them with gifts and some food to add to the festive meal.
This year at Thanksgiving I am also going to make a felt turkey centerpiece for the table.

Vat 10-20-2011 04:16 AM

For several years now I have done lunch and had everyone here and after lunch we put up my "snowing" Christmas tree. Does that sound like a plan? Well, this year my brother has been very ill for about four months now and is in the hospital now for 5th time lately. So, I'm not sure what plans will be this year, yet.

Mary T. 10-20-2011 04:28 AM

My daughter and I are going to VA to my younger daughter and son in law's We start out the day with a Turkey Trot, then to their home for dinner with all the fixings. Always a couple of extra guests that would be alone. Isn't that what Thanksgiving is all about???

G-MaDiane 10-20-2011 04:57 AM

I will be in St. George, Utah at a soccer tournament with DH, DD and DGS. We will have our big family dinner the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Darlene516 10-20-2011 05:11 AM

We're staying home but I have family coming up from Georgia and my three kids will be home this year so I'll have a full house for dinner. I'm really looking foward to it.

lillybeck 10-20-2011 05:21 AM

We all go to my sisters house and have our meal outside ( in FL.) As many of the family and friends that want to come do so. We usually have 5 generations there. It is always like a family reunion with sisters, brothers, inlaws, nieces and nephews of the 1st 2nd and 3rd generation along with aunts and uncles. It is a time we all look forward to but, this year will be hard because my BIL passed a couple of months ago.

Caswews 10-20-2011 05:42 AM

Hmmmmm...well I am not sure yet .. but it maybe a stay at home weekend for us.

Sharoni 10-20-2011 05:43 AM

Usually, I hold to the tradition of fixing a turkey and all the trimmings, play games, visit, invite lonely friends in. We have noticed our families no longer treasures the traditions much as we did and sometimes one family cannot make it for valid reasons. This year two families cannot make it for valid reasons. The younger generation grandkids come eat and go off to somewhere else. I'm older now,it is a lot of work, and I want the focus to be thankfulness for our blessings, so this year we are having grilled cheese for Jesus. Our families are Christian, and with so many people in distress because of the economy, tornadoes, etc. we will help at the food kitchen that feeds the public.
We will give each family member the money to donate to their favorite charity or church, money that the meal and trimmings would usually cost here at the house.
We will still be in town, those who come will still visit and have a nice time and a few desserts. But the focus will not be stuff ourselves, shop, watch tv, fall asleep, run all over trying to get to in-laws,other grandparents, etc.
We think as the oldest of them all, we should still continue to set an example. We are thankful to Jesus for His sacrifice and do not mind making some ourselves as He modeled.

You would fit right in with our families. We have 8 children and 25 grandchildren and GGK and my siblings and their families always think like the more the better. We enjoy all the little ones running around especially on holidays.

happymrs 10-20-2011 06:37 AM

I'm pretty sure we will be home alone, as usual, since all of family & kids live in CA. Thinking, for a change, might try to find a real small turkey & do a more traditional dinner this year, on a small scale, of course. Not much is definite yet, so time will tell. DH might want to go just have turkey out somewhere, so we'll see...

kraftykimberly 10-20-2011 07:06 AM

Well ever since my parents "ditched" all us kids for thanksgiving at the family mountain cabin in Maggie Valley with all the "older" generation relatives, we decided Disney would be our traditional thanksgiving destination. Works great, the oldies are in the mountains where its nice and quiet and us youngsters are hanging with Mickey. Win Win for everybody !!

Abby'smom 10-20-2011 07:21 AM

One of my DSILs or a DN will be the hostess and I will bring whatever they suggest -- I love these holidays get-togethers with the extended family and appreciate that others do so much of the work -- we do the same at Christmas

Becka 10-20-2011 07:34 AM

I'm taking off work the 3 days before. So excited. Dinner always at my house, always fun. We usually host an international student or 2 from the university, which is also always fun. My oldest is in Canada, so we set the laptop up on the corner of the table or buffet, and they eat with us on Skype. Last year our Isreali visitor did the same thing. It was riotous fun. More so because my DSIL knows Arabic, and is a divinity student, so they were talking more than any of us!

dink pluta 10-20-2011 07:39 AM

Going to my oldest son's house for dinner. I love letting my daughter in law cook!!!!!

grandma sue 10-20-2011 07:58 AM

I normally host my mother's side of the family (only cousins left now) but there have been some changes and there are only 3 of us cousins left (plus our kids). So this year, my one cousin that lives near me (he is recently divorced) will go with DH and me to Albuquerque, NM to the other cousin's. Our son and his wife (from Colorado ?springs) will meet us there. We are pretty excited. We will go to a nice restaurant for dinner and just enjoy spending time with each other. My two cousins (both guys) are like brothers to me and we are all very close.

Victoria L 10-20-2011 08:20 AM

My son will be coming to visit! So we will have dinner with my kids, step daughter son in law grandson and friends. We always invite anyone who has no family around too. So its' always a surprise

grandjan 10-20-2011 10:10 AM

We'll be spending Christmas with our daughter and her family in South Carolina. They'll come up here for Christmas. My son won't be able to make it this year. He's getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan.

Roberta 10-20-2011 10:44 AM

DH and I will go out for dinner.

BettyM 10-20-2011 10:48 AM

My husband is from a huge family. He is the oldest of 15! It is a family tradition to get together at Thanksgiving, celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas together. We rent a gym for 3 days, and make a whole weekend of it! We have lots of fun together, plan different activities, and have lots of good food. Good times. We want to make lots of memories for our children and grandchildren.

BarbaraSue 10-20-2011 11:10 AM

I may be working with my home care client.

Nancy Ingham 10-20-2011 11:32 AM

Thanksgiving will find hubby and me at our home in Shipshewana with friends and neighbors joining us for dinner. Dinner will be our traditional turkey & gravy, meat & bread stuffing, whipped sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, lots of fresh steamed veg’s., and homemade pies; apple, lemon meringue and chocolate pecan.

I wish everyone a beautiful Thanksgiving holiday and may your blessings be plentiful!!

Navy Wife 10-20-2011 11:54 AM

We will travel to Washington D.C. to visit with youngest son and DIL. He is retiring from the Navy next June, so this will be our last trip to that area. I'm very proud of him with his chest full of ribbons and medals...sorry, I have to brag a little! DH commissioned him at Auburn in 1986. Seems like yesterday. I'm sure I will be helping Laura with dinner, but don't know what she has planned.

michelehuston 10-20-2011 12:19 PM

My brother is coming home from Afghanastan!! We are so excited! Will get to spend Thanksgiving with him!! Been 4 years since I have seen him!

Jennifer22206 10-20-2011 12:31 PM

We're going to my mom's house, and I'm staying over with Mom, to get ready for Black Friday. DH will bring DD back to our house (5 miles away) but I have to get some goodies for DD without her being there with me!

grannypat7925 10-20-2011 12:59 PM

We will probably just spend a quiet day at home being thankful.

tsnana2000 10-20-2011 01:00 PM

Hopefully going to my daughter's. I love spending time with family over the holidays.

Abbie Jane 10-20-2011 01:01 PM

DH and I are going to visit our older son who lives in WA. Will get to meet his girlfriend and I'm looking forward to spending time with both of them. Lots of fun stuff planned for that weekend.

Hopefully Lake Tahoe - Reno will not have a lot of snow & we will be able to make it to our daughter's home in Utah. If we get snowed in on this side of Tahoe, we will be spending it at home & I will get to quilt.

Quilting Grandma 10-20-2011 02:15 PM

Our family and friends will gather -- we just need to find a place big enough. We have grown to about 50. 15 of them are our grand kids and 4 more are greats. My SonIL and DIL have taken charge and I only have to bring Cranberry Salad and Pecan Pies. It is the only time we all get together ( I am turning 70 and I think something is going on but no one is talking - I can't even pry it out of one of the kids) and I really look forward to it. We have been blessed with a wonderful family.

It's just the two of us this year so I think I'm going to find an interesting cookbook at the library and try some new dishes....maybe Morroccan? Korean? Who knows, but we'll have fun with it, and there are always restaurants it it all REALLY bombs!

katiebear1 10-20-2011 02:37 PM

Our family is scattered all over the country( our kids and my sister and BIL in Denver, My DH siblings in Oregon, California and Texas. The holidays are really hard for me. I struggle with clinical depression and I just miss the family SOOO much. I just want to get through the holidays. I tried to get in the spirit last year and put up a little tree and some decorations, but it just made it worse. I wish I could fast forward to the new year

Quiltaddict 10-20-2011 02:37 PM

Driving to Arizona to visit my daughter and family. Hope to be able to visit Hobby Lobby and some quilt shops while there also.

Pat P 10-20-2011 03:24 PM

No egg gathering two times a day on Thanksgiving this year!
Quite a challenge to run back and forth from hen house to kitchen, lots of prep work before. Like doing double duty, no wonder I was always tired~! Not complaining was blessed to have a job-- self-employed-- one makes do!
