What are your plans for Thanksgiving 2011?

We will be staying home

sunflower126 10-19-2011 11:11 AM

I host dinner for 15, sister and her family and my daughter and her family. We have a brand new baby girl this year to hug and to hold. Can't wait. She was born mid Sept and her name is Bella.

Jim's Gem 10-19-2011 11:14 AM

I have my family descending upon my abode. My parents, older brother, his wife 2 pre-schoolers and MIL, My middle brother, wife and 2 daughters, youngest brother, wife and 2 daughters, middle daughter her DH and my grand son, my oldest daughter and her DH, my youngest daughter and her DH. Um..... 26 people. Wow!! that should be interesting. Fortunately two of my daughters live here in town so they will each have family members staying with them and all our bedrooms will be filled. Dinner will be here. Hmmmm..... we may need 2 turkeys!!!

Patty Patches 10-19-2011 11:14 AM

Go to my parents for lunch then to Mils for supper.EAT way to much, come home and get ready for Black Friday

AFQSinc 10-19-2011 11:15 AM

This year we, DH and DS, will be taking our first road trip from Long Island to Rochester, NY. It will be interesting as we've never driven up there we have only ever flown. I'm not sure what it will be like with a 3 year old in the car seat for 6-8 hours. I'm predicting quite a few stops.

gramajo 10-19-2011 11:39 AM

I'm working. Hopefully I'll be scheduled to get off by 6 & one of my DDs will decide to cook. Otherwise I get a turkey TV dinner & a can of turkey dog food for Casper (he normally only gets dry food :D ). This has been the routine for years. I don't mind working because customers are generally in a good mood.

QuiltnNan 10-19-2011 11:45 AM

dinner for 7 at my house

Annaquilts 10-19-2011 11:49 AM

Well we'll be home. No one has invited my tribe since we went over 5 children. (We are at 14 now) Can't say I blame them. I am not sure what we are cooking but I think it will be mash potatoes, corn, buns, turkey, boiled yams, fresh made cranberries, about a pie a person, green bean casserole, Martinelli apple cider and canned olives.

qbquilts 10-19-2011 11:59 AM

Bake pumpkin and apple pies. Eat lots of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, and pies :-). Oh, and get to bed early so I can shop the next day!

annthreecats 10-19-2011 12:02 PM

I'm going to be home alone, sewing, watching T.V., eating junk food, drinking beer, and napping.

valsma 10-19-2011 12:04 PM

I really haven't given it any thought. I don't think I will do much. My son is suppose to go back to ID. mid month to be with his wife and daughter. My other son will I suppose spend time with his girlfriends family. I really don't know. I guess I should think about it.

ChaiQuilter 10-19-2011 01:09 PM

Going to my brother and sister-in-law's home. They live about 75 miles away. Should be about 12 of us. I'm working on a quilt for them but I'm not sure it will be ready by then.

quilter68 10-19-2011 01:11 PM

Travel to Oregon!

quilter68 10-19-2011 01:13 PM

annthreecata,

re: Thanksgiving....Sounds like a plan and it is one I like!

Quilter69

(I have to do something else but I really like your idea.)

ckcowl 10-19-2011 03:22 PM

since i have to work this year- after work hubby and i will be going out to dinner- Daughter and granddaughter's will be joining us- son in law just left (being deployed) so the girls are not all that excited to fix a dinner- so we will all enjoy the afternoon/evening together at a resturant....i will still cook some- the bad thing about going out is eating too much for dessert- and no left overs---so i'm going to make us some left overs and pie of course :)-will probably make a pie for the girls to take home with them too.

annyroony2 10-19-2011 03:39 PM

Same old thing, cook, eat, visit, eat ................wish I was going somewhere.

Ruby the Quilter 10-19-2011 04:59 PM

We have it at my house. My DIL's parents join us and bring the turkey and dressing my SIL's mother brings the ham and his sister brings the pies. So it's 3 families and I don't have much to cook! We have a good time.

Pam B 10-19-2011 05:11 PM

Not sure...generally hubby and kids and I go out for dinner and a movie on Thanksgiving day and then I host for our extended families on Sat.

Things have a way of changing when kids get married. I am guessing son and daughter-in-law will go to her family inh Ohio on T'giving day. Not sure what newlywed daughter and son-in-law will do...guessing go to his family that day. And youngest daughter (a Purdue senior) may plan to spend that day with her boyfriend of over a year. Imagine hubby and I will still go out to dinner, though. I will still be having about 30+ guests on Sat.

We always put the tree up on the evening of Thanksgiving...I do think we will still do that. Very hard to believe we are talking about Thanksgiving...time sure does fly!

wolfkitty 10-19-2011 05:14 PM

I'll probably be home by myself, with Stouffer's turkey microwave dinner. They are pretty good, actually. Try to work on a quilt. Not a bad day, except it's so much like every other day. But I pray more on days like this, and it goes much better, so I am not complaining.

zipit 10-19-2011 05:23 PM

I don't know if DH will come here or I will go there but we'll have a veggie kind of dinner and I hope some pumpkin pie.

alikat110 10-19-2011 05:24 PM

having family over!!!!

Stitchnripper 10-19-2011 06:02 PM

Flying on Thanksgiving day to WA State where the grandchildren are. We discovered last year that flights are much cheaper and the airports are much less crowded. So we will have our feast on Friday. No one seems to mind. I make the turkey, mashed potatoes and apple cobbler. Daughter in law and her sister take care of the rest. then hubby makes gumbo with the leftover turkey carcass and some of the turkey. We always make an extra turkey breast for sandwiches and a special casserole my daughter in law makes.

Xstitshmom 10-19-2011 06:04 PM

Hosting my daughter, my nephew, his wife and two kids, my son, my husband, and the girl I hope is going to be my daughter in law!

Angellight 10-19-2011 06:14 PM

My AF son, who is stationed in Hawaii, but deployed in the Middle East for the last 7 mos, will be home for Thanksgiving. I will hopefully be able to eat the regular diet, meaning I cannot chew for at least 3 weeks due to jaw surgery.
I also usually have an orphan holiday... Anyone who does not have a place to go can come here in addition to what remains of my family.
Happy Day!
Susan

BellaBoo 10-19-2011 06:16 PM

Same as always. I have two DDs and one son in law and one grandchild. SIL has no parents so we have all holidays at my house. DDs stay the night and we go to Black Friday! We've gone to Black Friday for years. We have a blast.

raedar63 10-19-2011 07:58 PM

I am off this year, I thought about offering to work for someone. Holidays are hard for me because well, lots of reasons. I hope you all with the close families truly are thankful :)

EdieClay 10-19-2011 08:09 PM

DH and I are flying to Las Vegas Thanksgiving Day for the weekend. Meeting our DS there. We always go to Lawry's Restaurant for Thanksgiving Dinner ... yummy!

TxDiana 10-19-2011 08:14 PM

We r going on a family cruise from Galveston Tx. To Jamacia , Carmen island....my 7 yr old grand daughter will be traveling with me... Cannot wait!!!! Thank you Lord for great people

Mandie 10-19-2011 08:27 PM

I will be working and then to dinner at my WONDERFUL MIL's for a nice turkey dinner :)

hlponyfarm 10-20-2011 02:41 AM

Year after year Thanksgiving has fallen on me. Im the only one that works full time and a farm to run to boot. somehow Thanksgiving is always at the farm. It is just way too much for me to handle anymore. Soooo Hubby and I have started to take our horses and go camping in the woods. we have our Thanksgiving on a picnic table and have a great and relaxing time! No cleaning the house, no endless hours of cooking and no cleaning the house afterwards. and no high calorie left overs. do miss turkey left overs though. ;)

betty32084 10-20-2011 03:02 AM

starting a new family tradition this year, we have 13 grands and 9 great grands- the family is going to a grand daughter's 's and later that afternoon ,we're going to make old fashioned popcorn balls with the kids.Even have the old fashioned molasses from Western Kentucky.,we live in Florida.

Little Sue 4.9 10-20-2011 03:16 AM

DH and I will probably stay home and have chicken, stuffing and mash potato's,gravy, biscuits and home made apple pie(which we just started to make last month)They turned out pretty good lots of apples.

sewingmom3 10-20-2011 03:19 AM

I will be descending on my kids-they are all in the states, one is getting married the weekend before, so a good excuse to be there.

plainpat 10-20-2011 03:31 AM

We'll probably have DD & SIL,along with oldest Grson here. Will be leaving to visit other DD in Fl,a few days after, so will send leftovers with DD.
We'll have roast chickens with DD's stuffing,mashed potatoes,noodles & roasted asparagus.A relish tray,a couple pies & always,fruit salad & cookies.

alleyoop1 10-20-2011 03:31 AM

Same as every year, I cook and the family comes and eats! This year my niece and her family will be joining us for the first time (they just relocated from PA to VA) so we are planning on 15 to 18 guests. It should be fun!

Edie 10-20-2011 03:51 AM

My husband and I live in the City of St. Paul. Our son and his family live in a small town south of the Cities on a small farm. It is the classic "Rockwellian" picture of "Over the River and Through the Woods, to Grandchildren's House we Go".

So we won't be traveling there for Thanksgiving this year, however, they are welcome here.

I am fixing the whole schmear including our traditional Wild Rice Casserole - really yummy and so good warm with a cold turkey sandwich! I like to buy a huge turkey for leftovers! I'll make a couple of pies for anyone that comes over. Generally,. someone always stops over.

If the kids have plans that is great too. Last year they were here and haven't had their own Thanksgiving dinner since they moved on the farm two years ago. It's their turn to have their own dinner too!

So, we'll have our dinner, watch football, eat sandwiches, watch football, go to bed! That's our Thanksgiving this year. Edie

Joset 10-20-2011 03:55 AM

i will be going to my sister's . i host christmas and she hosts thanksgiving.

Barbie 10-20-2011 03:57 AM

Traveling 150 miles to SIL's home. We usd to number 32 but over the years we have dwindled to 12. We eat way too much food.

dewie45 10-20-2011 03:57 AM

Thanksgiving here. Probably between 25 and 30 this year, down about 11 from last year. A lot of work, but we have the only place big enough and accessible for wheelchairs. It's partly carry-in so I don't have all the cooking on my shoulders. DD's come over to help with setup and some food prep on Wednesday. It can be a lot fun, and about the only time extended family gets together. Face-to-face beats facedbook!!

mummadee 10-20-2011 04:04 AM

It's at my house. I love Thanksgiving. Just food, family, friends. Love it. Numbers change from year to year, always pick up a few "strays". Love it.
