What's the strangest place you found something you were looking for?

I was looking for my other set of keys for a week. Searched in my car, coat, jeans, cutting table finally found them last night in all places my shoe! What strangest place you found something you were looking for? ?

Well, right now the hardest part of getting out my door is finding my cane! Don't use it in the house except for early morning and late night but … where on earth did I leave it?! When did I use it last?
Usually it's on the wrong side of the table or hidden behind the drying dishes on my kitchen counter or somehow got tucked behind the curtain in the bathroom.... Good grief! Why is it on the floor in the corner?
You get the idea...

The strangest thing I ever misplaced was a set of keys. I looked for the longest time. I finally admitted to my self I lost them when I was out somewhere which didn't make sense since I had to drive home with them. I had a new set made so I could get in and out of the house, the garage, and the car. A couple years went by before I found them in my husband's golf bag. I have no idea how they got there. I was cleaning things out after he was gone (first husband since deceased) and found them in the bottom of the bag much to my surprise. It gave me extra house keys now and garage key, but the car I no longer had. It was great to have out extra safe deposit key back though.

I’m mindful where I put keys but I misplaced my keys for work and looked for several days. One day I moved my purse and heard a familiar noise of keys clinking together. A seam had come open in my purse lining & the keys had slid in there. Needless to say, I was happy & fixed the hole immediately !

How about glasses ? A friend was looking for her glasses and her husband chided her about “how could anyone lose their glasses?” She then noticed he was wearing them.

When I put my dishrag in the refrigerator, weird!

JanineH 02-16-2020 05:17 AM

I know a lady that couldn’t find her keys and key fob.paid the dealership for a new one then found it in her dishwasher.

Just last week, I was putting together my crumb quilt. I thought I had had seven rows completed, but there on the table were three and spread on the floor were three more. I looked and counted several times and concluded that I needed to make another row. As I bent over the table to collect pieces for that, guess what I found. Can anyone guess where? No, not on the table.

ptquilts 02-16-2020 05:44 AM

I may have posted about this before, but I picked up a small (1') oval hoop for hand quilting small projects. About a month later when I needed it for a project, I couldn't find it. This was in a small, 4 room house with just me and DH. I looked everywhere and finally gave up. Then I found it in the attic, in a place I know I did not put it, and DH never did anything in the attic. Still don't know how it got there.

Stitchnripper 02-16-2020 05:56 AM

My answer sounds strange! The strangest place I have found anything is usually where it is supposed to be after tearing apart house, car, coat pockets etc. and giving up and going to where item should be and how could I have missed it the first hundred times?

About ten ago we had an epic snowfall. I mean waist deep. Digging out the front walk, I lost an earring. I was so angry and I swore I was done with shoveling for good. This winter, getting into DHs car in the driveway, I looked down and there it was, barely sticking out from under the siding. Our driveway is in the back of the house. Best as I can figure, when the drive was ploughed, the earring was pushed along and ended up close to the backyard and under the siding. Ten years of snow melt and rain had finally washed it out. Years in the salt have corroded a bit but now I have a pair again.

About 15 years ago, we helped my MIL buy a used car. We cleaned it out for her, and found papers on the previous owner, who we realized was a teacher that our sons had in grade school. DH removed the floor mats to replace them, and found a diamond ring wedged underneath. We contacted him, and it turned out to be his wife's engagement ring, which had been lost several years before that! He said they had "torn the car apart" looking for it!

maryb119 02-16-2020 09:42 AM

I found my car keys in the fridge. I bought groceries and carried a gallon on milk in the same hand I was holding my keys. I put the milk in the fridge and dropped the keys. Three hours later, after looking everywhere I could think of, I reached in for the milk and there they were.

Couldn't find my dentures for 3 days! Checked "everywhere", pockets, purses, cupboards....but forgot to look under an upside down bowl in the fridge!!

Claire Hallman 02-16-2020 10:37 AM

I lost a ring one spring, searched everywhere I thought including the back yard, it finally showed up in the pocket of a flannel shirt that had been put away for the summer.

Battle Axe 02-16-2020 10:58 AM

Found some printer ink that I had been searching for.....in the freezer along with some frozen food I had bought that day.

While working at the Joplin Public Library, we were alerted to look for some keys that a woman had lost. We retraced her steps with her but did not find them. Several weeks later while looking through the card catalog....there they were holding a place to what she was looking up.

Tartan 02-16-2020 12:40 PM

The strangest place for me would be right where they were supposed to be. I’ve torn my sewing room apart looking for something only to find I over looked it in the first place.

dunster 02-16-2020 02:08 PM

Lost my glasses, was embarrassed to find them on top of my head. Now I'm in the habit of patting the top of my head whenever I start looking for my glasses. That probably looks strange to anyone who doesn't know the story...

Lost my keys many times, have found them in the freezer, in the garbage, anywhere but where they should be.

maviskw 02-16-2020 03:17 PM

Another strange but true. I lost my soon-to-be husband's class ring in the lake. About two years later some guys were looking for some tools they had dropped in the lake and found it. It was traced by the initials in it. When we went to pick it up, I was holding my tiny new born son.

Quiltah Mama 02-16-2020 06:11 PM

Making the bed one morning, I kicked DH's dentures out from under the bed in a baggie. :DHe told me later he couldn't find them the night before, but was to embarrassed to tell me. We still have a laugh about it to this day.

tranum 02-16-2020 07:24 PM

When in high school, my husband reached in the snow to make and throw a snowball. Later he noticed his class ring was missing. When the snow melted in the Spring, he checked the same area and found his ring.

A few years later, he laid his brand new Black Hills gold ring on a ladder in the garage while he did something and forgetting about it, later he moved the ladder. After some hard searching, he found it again.

We were on holidays in Myrtle Beach. I used my inhaler and put it in my cosmetic bag, or so I thought. When I went to get it, I couldn’t find it so I thought I threw it in the garbage. Six months later my husband found it in his shaving bag.😳

JENNR8R 02-16-2020 10:07 PM

I looked everywhere for my glasses and couldn't find them. I finally gave up and ordered another perscription pair.

Months later I found them... in mid air!... They had fallen behind my nightstand and got caught on the lamp wires. They didn't fall to the floor until I moved the nightstand.

SusieQOH 02-17-2020 03:47 AM

Right off the top of my head I can't think of one instance but it is a major pet peeve of mine!!! That shows you it's happened to me too much :D

eparys 02-17-2020 04:15 AM

Several years ago, I came into the house with bags and bags of groceries. All the frozen vegies were together so I just threw the plastic bag they were in into the freezer. After that trip I could not find my phone. I was lucky, it was a inexpensive Tracfone so after about two weeks I just ordered another one. About a month later I had grabbed the last vegies out of that bag and I grabbed the bag to throw it away and low and behold it had something in the bottom. Yup - it was the phone and it still worked!!

I cleared the table after dinner, and put stuff away in the cupboards and frig. Next morning when I was setting the table for breakfast I couldn't find the salt and pepper. Looked in all the cupboards, etc, etc. Later that day, I found them behind a bag of potato chips, up on top of the frig. No idea how they got there

toverly 02-17-2020 08:36 AM

I have found my seam ripper on top of the refrigerator in the garage. Evidently, I had suddenly remembered to take something out to thaw and just placed it there for a moment. Don't really know how long it had been there, I have several so I must have moved on to another one at some point.

LindaJane 02-17-2020 08:42 AM

I once climbed through a window because I couldn't find my keys and on my way through I heard the keys jingling in my pocket. Another time found them in the dishwasher. Once lost my work tag and found it later hooked to the back of my jacket. I seem to always be looking for something

Fell off your shoulder?

I don't know how many times I've done the 'double glasses' things...wearing sunglasses, I put them up on my head to use my readers, then 'lose' my sunglasses, ugh!

I lost my Easy Angle ruler, which I relied on a lot... Looked everywhere around my sewing stuff (in the dining room) and couldn't find it. So I went to buy a new one. Of course, as soon as I had the new one, the old one was found! It had slipped off the table and was snugly wedged between the side of one of the chair's seat cushions and back of the chair. I know I looked in all the seats around the table, but didn't see it at first because of the angle it landed in. Now I have a spare!

You're right, Cheshirepat. It had been on my shoulder and as I bent over the table, it was visible to me. That happens to me more than I like to admit with my kitchen towels. I look for a long time for that towel I just had and finally find it on my shoulder.

Reading all of these makes me feel so much better about myself, it's not just me LOL. I've found a place where I belong.

It's almost guaranteed that when you replace something you lost it will turn up! I think it's a law or something haha :D

Telling a story on my cousin. She lost 3 sets of keys in a row. I finally kept her house and car key on a ring so I could bail her out when she lost the next set. She looked everywhere. She had gone through her purse numerous times, but once she had dumped it out on her table. Then In anger she threw the purse down.. And heard a jingle. ???? her purse liner had a hole. three sets were still in her purse when it looked empty. Bkay, this is Susan that you met.

I wonder how I knew, ha! I've had things startle me when they fall off my shoulder where I placed them! So good to be human, eh?

When I worked at a physio clinic and patients had to remove watches and jewelry we always told them to put it in their shoe. Then they would not forget it.

Last Fri. my DH was looking for his long handle pruning shears. He had used a few days before. We looked the yard different times, and the garage several times. He thought he probably laid them on the trash can, and it probably fell in with out him knowing. I went out to the garage this morning, and there leaning on the table were his shears. I thought he had found them, and put them there. No, that wasn't the case. We even use the garage to come in the house, and we must have walked past them 50 times or more. I realize we are getting older, but we both have 20/20 without glasses since cataract surgeries. LOL

Years ago, I was at a pool party and saw that my pearl ring didn't have a pearl any longer. I don't know how long it was gone but I found it. It was snuggled up to the strip on the floor at the bottom of the back door.

Borrowers, it's all Borrowers. Have a great day, yall!

My most famous (and recent) "loss" was my 3 1/2 x 18 inch ruler. I'd taken it to a sewing day and couldn't find it when I came home. Emailed the organizer who gave me the janitor's contact info, emailed him and the ladies who run the comfort quilt part of our guild (where the janitor was to put the ruler if he found it).
Long story short, no one had found it, I couldn't find it, so I replaced it, but I couldn't find the same brand with the same lines anymore which saddened me. Then, about a week after buying the replacement I was lifting my machine to put in its' tote prior to going to another sewing day, and I saw the corner of the ruler sticking out from the edge of my sewing machine at the back side.. I must have somehow set the ruler under my machine in the tote when I packed up the previous time and it stuck to the bottom and the edge that stuck out wasn't visible unless you were looking at the back....I'm glad to have it back!
