What's Your Favorite Christmas Movie?
I've enjoyed many, and it's a bit difficult to pick one over the others, but I feel that "Holiday Inn" wins out, with Fred Astaire's dancing and the general theme of the story. Do you have a favorite, and is there a reason that it beats some others?

Charlie Brown's Christmas
In fact my husband ordered the tree for me as a gift. He knows I just adore that homely little tree. :) |
I love "Holiday Inn" as well. I also love "Scrooge", the 1951 version of "A Christmas Carol" with Alistar Sim. It's a great story and it always makes me cry.
Too many! For years my favorite was It's a Wonderful Life. Then it was A Christmas Story until everyone else discovered it and it gets played so much. i still love Christmas in Connecticut and Period of Adjustment. I also love A Christmas Carol, the George C. Scott version.
I also like the Christmas Carol with George C Scott but my favorite is the Muppet's Christmas Carol version
A Christmas Story
White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney for the great music.
It's A Wonderful Life because I've always had a crush on Jimmy Stewart. Miracle on 34th Street. The Bells of Saint Marys. The Littlest Angel. Prancer. Santa Claus is coming to town. Frosty the Snowman. Sorry but I can't pick just one, I'm a Christmas junkie. I have all the Christmas movies in my list on Netflix and I am trying to watch them all by Christmas:)
A Christmas Carol. The 1934 back and white ..only. The best! It's a Wonderful Life is another but I don't always watch it annually. There are certain scenes i still love to watch over and over.

The Nativity Story - after all, that is what it's all about.
Whatever's on the TV at the time. I agree with alleyoop1, that stuffs not played enough. Love the cartoons too. Remember Nestor? He was a donkey and his mom had died. He always remembered her saying, "ears Nestor" so he wouldn't step on them because they were sooo long.
A Christmas Story and Dr.Suess "How The Grinch Stole Christmas", animated version are my two favorites
'A Christmas Carol' with Alistar Sim as well. It's not Christmas until I've seen that movie - usually watch it while decorating the tree as DH found it on DVD a number of years ago.
The bells of St. Mary's and so many others
I agree. TOO Many to chose a favorite.
There is no contest for me. "It's a Wonderful Life" is the only Christmas movie I care to watch. I cry every time.
I don't really have a favorite, just watched what was available. I do try to watch Miracle on 34th Street. Maybe that's it.
Being from the Cleveland area I love the Christmas Story. The movie was filmed here although it was supposed to take place in Indiana. I love seeing the old Higbee department store (now a casino) and the views of Public Square in the 50's.
The house where the filming took place is open and of course a gift shop. |
It's a Wonderful Life, every year. If I miss it I'm bummed.
I have several, depending on my mood: Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, Christmas Carol with Alistar Sim, The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Jack Black, and the original version of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (the animated one), and Miracle on 34th Street with Natalie Wood.
White Christmas tops it for me. But I try to watch all of the movies and cartoons each year. I enjoy Let It Snow in hallmark because is all the quilts they show in the lodge😊
White Christmas (I've always loved Rosemary Clooney); A Christmas Story, that's really what it looked like in those days; Love Actually; all-time favorite "March of The Wooden Soldiers" with Laurel and Hardy.
I love most of the oldies mentioned but I always want to watch Christmas With the Kranks. I could watch that year round. I loved the John Grisham book and I love this movie. :)
As I stated in a previous post in this thread, I love Charlie Brown's Christmas. I am not really into Christmas movies.
Every Thanksgiving I watch "The Wizard of Oz" while doing the prep work for dinner. |
I have to say my top ones I watch every year are: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is at the top of my list. SQUIRREL!!! , it never gets old.
Emmit Otter's Jugband Christmas Santa ClausThe Movie (with Dudley Moore) |
Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. Miracle of the bells is my all time favorite movie.
My favorite is "Comfort and Joy". It's not an old movie, but I love it.
Sue |
Elf
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.....
Christmas Story! "You'll shoot your eye out kid". "Fah rah rah rah rah, rah, rah, rah, rah". The Bumpus' dogs stealing the turkey........it just never gets old to me.
"Planes, Trains & Automobiles" (1987)
Oops! I was answering favorite holiday movie. "Elf" (2003) |
Onebyone, I forgot about Emmet Otter. I wish they still showed this. My DD and could watch rat one over and over
OMG I forgot to add "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation". So incredibly dumb, so silly, so FUNNY!!! I watch it every chance I get and laugh every time. And look at some of the supporting actors before they were household names, e.g. Doris Roberts (multiple Emmy awards), Johnny Galecki (star of tv's #1 comedy), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (who at this point can almost rule the world).
the cartoon "How the Grinch stole Christmas" hands down!!! love it!!
I second the motion for Miracle on34th Street.
Its a wonderful life.
The Nativity Story says it all! But as I am hooked on all of those Hallmark movies, my favorite has been The Christmas Card.
I love White Christmas with Bing Crosby. This is something that my father and I watched every year at Christmas together. He has passed away now and I still watch it. It brings back happy memories.:o
I have a few...the Santa Claus (1st one) with Tim Allen, & meet the Clauses with Crystal Bernard.
A couple not mentioned that are on my favorites list are..... Prancer and the Muppet Family Christmas and the John Denver Christmas special with the Muppets. I am in the thick of watching all of my old favorites....well, you have already mentioned them.
