Today, mine is

"Every morning I wake up and have two choices. I can be happy or I can be sad. I choose to be Happy!"

don't know who said it, but it works for me!

Moonpi 01-17-2010 09:35 AM

This, too, shall pass.

oldswimmer 01-17-2010 09:50 AM

Enjoy life, it's no dress rehearsal!

dakotamaid 01-17-2010 09:51 AM

Maybe not a saying but: I used this alot with my teens.

Remember if you ask the question be prepared for a answer you might not like.

renee765 01-17-2010 10:06 AM

My oldest son likes to say "Tell the truth, it's easier to remember". By the way, he's a lawyer.

I have a really good friend who at the wise old age of 8 proclaimed loudly from his wheelchair (he has severe CP) to a bunch of griping teachers... "Suck it up and deal with it!"

I have since altered this one to: Suck it up Buttercup!

And here's what I have stencilled over my kitchen window... my motto for life:

“It is well to remember that the entire universe, with one trifling exception, is composed of others.”

When I was a kid we lived on a ranch and my dad was self-employed in construction. Needless to say, lots of plans would end up being changed. He would always say "New day, new deal." His other was, "In all things, maintain a sense of humor." They both came in handy when I was teaching school and raising my own family.

shaverg 01-17-2010 11:33 AM

Don't get you knickers in a knot. Or Don't get your panties in wad.

Teacup 01-17-2010 11:35 AM

Someone here on the board had this saying on their signature line, and I really like it:

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow.

Honey 01-17-2010 11:45 AM

I love this one from Abe Lincoln. "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt". There's another one I use with my kids. "Every time God closes a door, he opens a window".

butterflywing 01-17-2010 11:55 AM

what is, is.

amma 01-17-2010 01:04 PM

Mine is in my signature line :D:D:D

sewnsewer2 01-17-2010 01:04 PM

I have two

1) you can, if you think you can
2) who goes around comes around

ghostrider 01-17-2010 01:18 PM

"Named must your fear be before banish it you can.”
"Do. Or do not. There is no try."
both from Yoda.

I say "It is what it is." all the time at work. When my nearly 40 year old assistant found out she was pregnant and asked what she was going to do. I replied, "It is what it is and what is there to do." She told me she hated that saying.....even though it was so true.

I love these

Barbm 01-17-2010 04:14 PM

I can't stand -it is what it is. Especially when said by my 2 fav mortgage brokers. Just makes me feel like they won't do something to help a situation.

I always say- put your big girl panties on and deal with it.

I used to say life sucks and then you die. but then i lost someone very close to me- he died. and life sucks without him. so I don't say that anymore.

Chele 01-17-2010 04:28 PM

I love all of your sayings! I'm going to use them all this week! My favorite is "Be Good." I liken it to a shortened saying of "Treat others as you would like to be treated." My mom taught me that long ago. It works for me, even though I do need a little reminder every now and then!

maryb119 01-17-2010 04:45 PM

Put on your big girl panties and deal with it.

sandpat 01-17-2010 04:50 PM

Mine change frequently, but right now it seems to be " I'm just sayin'"

pal 01-17-2010 05:05 PM

"Good Night. See you in the morning with a Happy Face!"

Mom said it to us, we said it to ours, they said it to theirs, and when the Grands sleep over, they say it to us!

barnbum 01-17-2010 05:21 PM

Here's one I use on my students--well, not all of them, just a choosen few: "There is joy in obedience."

I'll have to think longer on my favorite.

Oklahoma Suzie 01-17-2010 05:36 PM

Don't get your panties in a bunch.

Deb watkins 01-17-2010 05:38 PM

I have two, depending on what the situation is.
Every action has a consequence or a reward.

and
Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

That's my favorite saying too!! Or, "Put those big girl panties on and grow up!"

butterflywing 01-17-2010 05:43 PM

i also like 'no things come to he who waits'.

this isn't a favorite, but i say it a lot: "when will that ballgame be over?"

pal 01-17-2010 06:33 PM

Butterflywing, you really are a funny lady!

Pam G 01-17-2010 06:47 PM

My favorite is my signature line...

two more of my faves are:
"I'll burn that bridge when I get there" by the secretary at work

"It's not a road trip till you've made a U-turn" i say this all the time to remind those in the car with me that we need to enjoy our trip, not just the destination.

butterflywing 01-17-2010 06:50 PM

that reminds me of when my son was small. he was ...fretful (my daughter says). he was always afraid that we'd get lost when i drove. why? i wonder. i kept telling him we were not lost - we were on an adventure. didn't fool him for one minute. he's still afraid to drive with me.

kwhite 01-17-2010 06:52 PM

"Get In, Shut Up, and Hang On!!!"

janRN 01-17-2010 06:59 PM

Whenever we'd whine about not having whatever the latest "thing" was that "everybody" else had, my dad would tell us: I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet. Scared us as kids but means a lot now.

MadQuilter 01-17-2010 07:07 PM

Lead, follow, or get the heck out of my way!

mary quite contrary 01-17-2010 07:13 PM

Be gracious and kind.

I have 2 daughters and when they were teenagers I said it a lot!!!! Always be gracious and kind.

MollieSue 01-17-2010 07:21 PM

'When your reach for what is healing, healthy, and loving, the Universe (God) steps in to support you."

And my kids, when younger, used to always say
"You can't keep a good dog down."
I have no idea where they got it, but I've always remembered it. lol!!! :)

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-17-2010 08:11 PM

On good days, I like this one which I've stolen from someone's signature line:

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO HOO! What a ride!

On bad days, I go with John Cougar Mellencamp's "Life goes on long after the thrill of living is gone."
