We were suppose to get 1in of snow today but it has turned into 6in so far and it's still snowing.
The kids had school but were dismissed at 10am. My 15yr. old son's bus wound up in a ditch and it took them 2 hours to get home then the bus got stuck in front of our apartment building but managed to get going. His bus driver told them that even if there is school tomorrow that they all could just stay home because she wasn't coming to get them. LOL!! Ahter all the kids got off the bus it started leaning to the side even more.
My DD gets picked up by her boyF's mom and it took them almost an hour to get here and it usually takes 10 minutes then another hour for them to get to their home a 15 minute drive.

All in all this is the snow I have been waiting for all winter. LOL!!! Now that everyone is home except for DH I can relax until he has to drive home from work at 7:30pm.

you can't see off in the distance due to the snow. There is a main highway out there somewhere that we can usually see.

Japonica 02-07-2011 11:42 AM

Weird weather this year!

AgapeStitches 02-07-2011 11:42 AM

I'm glad you got your snow...hope dh has a safe trip home and that you and the kids are safely home...stay warm with all the quilts you're working on.

feline fanatic 02-07-2011 11:48 AM

Ugh, I am so sick of snow I hope it stays down there where you are. I think that storm is supposed to be moving up the coast to us! We have so much snow our dog house is almost completely buried! I would say there is at least 30" in our yard right now. The drifts from having our driveway plowed are well over 5ft! I am so sick of weekly snowstorms and driving in this crap! I guess I should quit my b**ching. I definitely would prefer snow over ice.

cjomomma 02-07-2011 11:57 AM

There are multiple car accidents and 2 buses wound up in the ditch and 1 that flipped but I haven't heard any more news about it yet.

dungeonquilts 02-07-2011 12:04 PM

Minnesota roads and weather is no better here! Had to get a MO for Sue here on the quilting board...wow, I could see now why our schools were 2 hours late and on plowed roads only picking up kids. KY with that much snow is not good..stay safe & warm. It has been a very strange winter for all!

boxerlady 02-07-2011 12:10 PM

hope it does not come here. I've seen enough snow this winter!

luvTooQuilt 02-07-2011 12:13 PM

I don't want the snow either!!! We have another snowfall coming this evening.. Yuck! No school all last week and The kids are still out of school today and tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Well least we have a working furnace, a fireplace, roof over our head, and food in the pantry.. Now if I can only get off this compute long enough to actually get some quilting done we'd be good !!

I'm still waiting here in upstate NY for a good snow. I am so jealous!

BMP 02-07-2011 12:20 PM

PLEASE dont send this way ! I have had enough of winter....

moonwork42029 02-07-2011 12:25 PM

It usually only takes me about 20 minutes to get home...it took me almost an hour. (I'm about 20 miles north of cjomomma).

We have a 4x4 dually and I was going about 35 - 45 most of the way on the parkway. Many many trucks/cars in the ditches and medians. I wasn't in a hurry and no one else really seemed to be either.

Our driveway has over 6" right now and still snowing. I have a circle drive (on corner lot) and took the dually through the whole drive to break the 12 - 18" drifts before they got hard. On the way back into the driveway, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to turn and thought I was going down the riprap hill... would not have been good!

Got back into the house and decided my chubby rear would just clean off the porch and watch the birdies (and QB updates)

cjomomma 02-07-2011 12:32 PM

Moonwork I'm glad you made it home safely. They are still trying to get kids home from school. School let out at 9:45 and it's 2:30 now.

melslove 02-07-2011 12:35 PM

Seems like the weather man is having a hard time predicting the weather this winter in KY, they call for a 1" we get 6", they call for 4" we get a dusting....lol.

You just got to wake up and see what you get and go from there.

Izaquilter 02-07-2011 12:39 PM

I'm really really sorry CJ I have to fess up. Illinois sent it to you! We had the same surprise Sat.morning... But look on the bright side....a good day to stay in sewing :o}

Midwestmary 02-07-2011 12:40 PM

It certainly is an unusual weather cycle we are in - first glance at your pictures you would think they were pictures taken here in Iowa! Will all this unusual snow make for flooding this spring or do you normally get an equivalent amount of moisture in rain?

We normally don't get this much snow but we have had some kind of snow once to twice a week since Christmas and it been a dusting to 2 inches. Our summers are generally very rainy but this last summer was hot and dry.

happymrs 02-07-2011 01:46 PM

Anymore, I believe snow forecasts here, when I see it!

Maggie_1963 02-07-2011 02:08 PM

Oh my goodness! It did get bad! time to sew!! And make soup!

slstitcher 02-07-2011 02:40 PM

I don't appreciate the snow much but we need moisture here in my part of Kansas. It is so dry. We have not had much snow, just cold. I certainly don't want 20 inches, spread it out a little bit.

np3 02-07-2011 04:02 PM

Snow is beautiful, but it can be so dangerous. Hope everyone makes it home safely!!

Judy_M 02-07-2011 04:11 PM

I don't miss the snow or cold. I have been here in Arizona for the last 20 years, transplanted from Chicago.

Patty Patches 02-07-2011 06:24 PM

I wish! I got to sew for an hour after DH got home. When everyone is here I barely get to touch my machine. :(

If only I could send you a bunch from WV, I would be soooo happy.

Michellesews 02-08-2011 06:04 AM

Wow! That looks SEW cold!!! We get 1 inch of snow here and it closes the town for 3 days...but we are not prepared and it really shows this year. Last year we had 6 snows...I guess the weather really is changing, too bad the water and power folks are not changing as well....makes life hard on us. Right now we are boiling all our water and restricted from using any water other than for drinking since so many pipes froze and burst. I guess poor planning on their parts constitute an emergency for us....time to go to the sewing room and stay there! lol.

Deb watkins 02-08-2011 06:12 AM

Wow, they send the kids home during the day? Our District does not do that, they feel it is safer for everyone to stay at school so our road crews can take of the ice/snow removal, and because for many of our little kids, there isn't any at home to watch them as parents cannot leave their jobs mid day.
