We live out in the country and are blessed with having a spring on our property. We decided not to go with "city" water and instead pipe our water from the spring. For the last couple weeks our water had been cloudy so today Landon and I took a trip down to the "lagoon" to see what the problem was. The huge rock that had been holding our waterline down was now under it and the end spout was lying on the bottom in the mud, so I go traipsing around in the water, in my DH big waders, to find big rocks to put it back into place. Took about half an hour to find enough loose big rocks and would have taken about 10 minutes if Landon had not kept trying to sneak into the water to. You should have seen me watching for snakes (like they are out this time of year), watching him and holding on to my hoe for dear life.
When I finally got the last rock on and climbed out Landon gave out a war cry, started dancing and yelling "We did it." I think he has watched to much Dora. It is nice to turn on the facet and the water is clear not mud colored. Even nicer that it does not have chemicals in it. BTW DH slept thru the whole thing. "We did it" :)
I realize a lot of us don't have a choice but which would you prefer?

Jim's Gem 02-22-2011 03:01 PM

We have no choice but to be on the city water supply. We are smack in the middle of a nice little city.

donnajean 02-22-2011 03:02 PM

Your spring water probably tastes better than our city water that I filter, but are the kids getting flouride for their teeth. My cousins grew up on a farm with total spring water & have terrible teeth problems.

Kimkankwilt 02-22-2011 03:03 PM

When we lived out in Acton, we had a ranch with well water, which was superior to the city water. But we had to watch and test the water for nitrates. I liked the taste and the price was right ($0.00). But, when the pipes froze, no water.

earlylace 02-22-2011 03:05 PM

city water, but we live in the country, had no choice a landfill contaminated our water, wells were caped, city water was piped in.

yetta 02-22-2011 03:10 PM

we have a well,we also have a water softener, and filtered reig water...

Ramona Byrd 02-22-2011 03:10 PM

HAVE city water but would prefer water rushing down unoccupied mountains. From what I read, a large percent of bottled water comes straight from city water, but friends who travel claim that Perrier is best and cleanest. Can't afford much of that, but do enjoy a bottle of it in a restaurant. Wish I could get THAT gushing from my water pipes....

annyroony2 02-22-2011 03:40 PM

we have a well.

samifel 02-22-2011 03:48 PM

I have a well with the sweetest water.

quiltlonger 02-22-2011 03:51 PM

Artisan spring water, ICE cold all year :)

leatheflea 02-22-2011 03:52 PM

Glad you fixed the problem, your story tickled me. We have a well, full of sulfar if we dont keep salt in the softner it turns the shower rusty, and my hair. We have corn fields all around us so I try not to drink the water.

pocoellie 02-22-2011 04:02 PM

Well water here.

Sandee 02-22-2011 04:03 PM

We have city water. Outside Chicago, Il. It costs us about $55 a month for 3 people. We have "great" water. so they say, & yet we have an extra filter to remove rust. It helps but isn't 100%. There are good & bad about both. When my DD lived in Indiana, she had well water & just like leatheflea, lots of rust from well and they bought bottled water to drink. I've never had spring water but some homes we looked at online had them & we always wondered about them. Glad you were able to fix problem yourself!

Maura 02-22-2011 04:09 PM

We have a deep well. There is lime in it and a little iron, but I like it. When we lived in town, the town well water had flouride in it naturally.

carhop 02-22-2011 04:15 PM

your lucky i just had to pay to get my water line fixed i had a geologist here on the 4th and he was testing my soil he nicked my water line they are looking to see if the crack is movement of sand or a sink hole starting hoping for the ground moving

mommaB 02-22-2011 04:20 PM

I have city water now..and I filter the chlorine out before I drink it. I won't drink water out of plastic bottles, I'm a little fearful of what's leaching out of the cheap plastic. I grew up on well water with no rust or sulfur..DELICIOUS. But I had pretty bad well water at my 1st house with prefilters and water softner. Anyone who thinks well water if free..HA! Pump and line repair/replacement, salt for the softner, heck, the softner itself, filters, electric to run the whole mess, its no cheaper than city. And more than once we had no water in drought conditions. So, I guess its 6 of one, half dozen of the other

pookie ookie 02-22-2011 04:32 PM

Same story as many folks. Politicians keep messing with the water. Cutting it off, rerouting, adding things to it. Trying to kill agriculture. Pretending to save creatures. Unconscionable people.

Shelbie 02-22-2011 04:41 PM

We have beautiful ice cold water from a deep drilled well, 143 feet down into the bedrock. Right now we have had an investment group from the USA buy up over 7000 acres of farmland with the hope of starting a limestone quarry 240 feet deep. We are furious as our area is the headwaters for 4 major rivers which provide water for much of southern Ontario and we feel it will be compromised to say nothing of our great agricultural land. We wish our new American investors would invest at home and dig their quarries there!

0tis 02-22-2011 05:04 PM

I have well water - no filters or water softeners - great fresh water - I have lived for years out in the country and mostly had spring water - it does require maintenance - usually every few months you need to clean the spring box and check for rocks, critters, etc. When I go into town and turn on a faucet - it smells like bleach to me - I am fortunate that we have always been self sufficient - many years spent living off the grid - had solar and generator for power. I wouldn't have it any other way.

NancyG 02-22-2011 05:37 PM

We have a well on our property. Good agua!

sueisallaboutquilts 02-22-2011 06:42 PM

We have city water. However, I drink tons and tons of bottled water. My kids told me not to drink out of the plastic bottles so I'm thinking of getting a Brita.

kbs 02-22-2011 06:47 PM

We have ciy water for the house, the stock gets the good well water.

amandasgramma 02-22-2011 07:01 PM

We have well water....the coldest, sweetest water in the country!

Chasing Hawk 02-22-2011 07:13 PM

We have well water, it taste better than bottled water and is ice cold right out of the tap.

hperttula123 02-22-2011 07:21 PM

I live in town and don't have a choice but to have city water. I would rather have spring water. Our town doesn't put fluoride in the water and the kids get fluoride tablets until they go to school and then they get rinses provided at school.

3incollege 02-22-2011 07:25 PM

We have an artician well. (20 hundred gallons a minute)The best tasting I've ever had. we also have springs.

gixxerangel 02-22-2011 07:29 PM

I have nasty texas city water....I would rather have a spring like you!! I used to live in Reno, NV and all the water there comes from the Truckee River which comes from Lake Tahoe...I miss that water!! :(

Cyn 02-22-2011 08:15 PM

filtered City water in the house - well water outside!

ontheriver 02-22-2011 08:18 PM

We live in country and have no choice but to have a well. But, we are above a large artisan aquifer and it is the best, cleanest water I have ever had.

mosquitosewgirl 02-22-2011 08:22 PM

We don't have a choice as we live over the river and through the woods 35 minutes from any town....we have a well that is 629 feet deep and puts out only 3 gallons per minute. This is our second well. We have a 2500 gallon water storage tank and that really helps. The only time we have trouble is if a pipe breaks and drains the tank. But, boy, oh boy, does our water taste good!

Actually, while I don't blame you a bit.....could we not have them dig anywhere, please? We had a situation where the state decided that a local reservoir, that is spring fed, was a hazard because it was an earthen dam. So, they drained over half the lake, which disrupted the water table and dried up a bunch of wells. Argh!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 02-22-2011 08:28 PM

I grew up with a spring which my Mom and Dad still use. We live in town and have "city" water which is purified from the local lake.

It's not like that anymore, the chlorine odor in the water is awful.

I made the mistake of using warm tap water to rinse my sinuses out while were there once. My nose bled for 10 minutes.
At times the Truckee looks like a small brook winding through town.

Gramof6 02-22-2011 08:45 PM

We have no choice but to have City water & I will NOT drink or cook with it. When I do have to have some of it, I will get a bladder or kidney infection every time. I have bottled water delivered to my door and also have a filter on the faucets. Spring water tastes so very good!

Well water here about 180 ft down in the spring water. Comes out clean, cold and wonderful. NO chemicals.

NANAOF2BOYS 02-22-2011 09:42 PM

city water which comes from the local river and has clorine and other chemicals in it so we drink bottled water instead

Naturalmama 02-22-2011 09:45 PM

We live in the city, but are on the edge - so we don't have all the amenities of the city (yay!) - meaning we still have a well. We are borderline on nitrates, so we use an ro system to filter it, but otherwise we're very happy with the pure taste of WATER!
