I usually have old movies on when quilting. I don't really have to watch them because I already know what is going on. I also have all 10 seasons of the Waltons and the movies. My DH knows I'm sewing as soon as he hears the theme song

drw1mjw2 06-26-2011 04:52 AM

I read, or rather listen to 'books on tape'. I enjoy being read to.

Autumn Quilts 06-26-2011 05:49 AM

The tv is on in my sewing room...i prefer something I've alread seen, but will watch a new show/movie.

Abby'smom 06-26-2011 06:06 AM

One reason I like to handquilt and applique is that I can do watching movies or sports thingys

LindaLu 06-26-2011 06:14 AM

Hi, while I'm sewing I wash clothes. Since my machines are outside my kitchen door and I am upstairs, I use a baby monitor that lets me hear when the machines are ready for me. It works great....Linda

Rose Ann 06-26-2011 06:55 AM

Sometimes a movie that I've seen before so I can sew and keep up with the story. Or, occasionally, music. Not a TV fan, and as I tell my DH (TV addict), quiet is nice.

crazyvickie 06-26-2011 07:06 AM

I love to put a movie in and work on a quilt. I sew leisurely then and find I enjoy my time more. I don't mind the quiet time either.

carslo 06-26-2011 07:21 AM

I have my mini computer on my sewing table and listen/watch stuff off of Netflix.

michlowe 06-26-2011 07:28 AM

I listen to audio books. I spend one hour a day going to and from work. I download books from the local library (for free) to my ipod. I have a slave cable that hooks my ipod up to my car sterio. Nothing in my ears so I can hear sirens and horns!
When I quilt, I listen to the current book. If it is really good, I find it as a source of inspiration to get me into the room. Try it. You may like it.

I LOVE the "accessory" on your ruler rack!

I listen to movies while I sew. The tv is in the next room, so no temptation to watch.

At Walmart you can buy a transmitter that will plug in your player where the earphones do and play through any radio, in your car or at home. Cost less then $14. It's in the auto section not in electronics. The same quality cost much more if in the electronic section. Runs on batteries so doesn't have to be connected to any thing in the car just your player.

Stitchit123 06-26-2011 08:31 AM

My TV is on mostly for 'White noise' during the day But I do have a few shows I watch at night

QUILTNMO 06-26-2011 09:52 AM

i just listen to the radio

Vat 06-26-2011 10:30 AM

While sewing I have the TV on but not paying too much attention to it, I am usually washing clothes and cooking our next meal. Haven't figured out how to clean house and sew at the same time.

MaryAnnMc 06-26-2011 10:56 AM

Gotta have iTunes up, either streaming internet radio, playing through my library, or listening to a podcast. I used to enjoy quiet, but now I always have to have some kind of noise going, tho rarely the TV. Drives my DH batty. But then, he didn't grow up in a house with 9 people it it!

running1 06-26-2011 11:00 AM

Oh heavens no.... as soon as I "look away" I'll cut or sew something that wasn't supposed to be cut or sewn, or not cut or sew something that was supposed to be cut or sewn... sigh... It takes total concentration here... I've thought about trying listening to music (music that I'm already familiar with, of course), but that even makes me wary...

joyce888 06-26-2011 11:32 AM

I actually will have the TV, Stereo, or PC on when I sew. I'm constantly going over to the PC when I hear the chime of an incoming email or reading this message board. Gotta stop and get back to my quilt.

Margie 06-26-2011 12:32 PM

I put tv or music on.

TexasSunshine 06-26-2011 01:57 PM

I have to have the TV on when I am sewing or working on anything. I have satellite in my shop so I am happy there by myself.

quilterlois 06-26-2011 02:02 PM

I do watch movies while I sew. My favorite is listening to books on tape. I check the tapes out from my libarary.

oh to answer the question; I prefer the quiet. I only sew binding or just started some embroidery and always got some crocheting going on while I watch TV shows in the evening

misscarol 06-26-2011 03:13 PM

While sewing, I listen to the radio. Or if someone else is with me I listen to them!!

Quilter Day-by-Day 06-26-2011 03:32 PM

I always have the TV on sometimes I watch it but mostly background noise.

RugosaB 06-26-2011 03:45 PM

When my husband set up our old dining room to be my sewing room, we situated the sewing machine so I can see the tv if I want to. I usually have something on, but also have a cd player and a record(remember those?) player in there too.
Also, the elliptical is right next to mye sewing machine, so I have to choose one...hmmm... sew or sweat? I almost always choose sew!

Gramily 06-26-2011 04:38 PM

I listen to books that I download from the library to my PC.

DianD 06-26-2011 04:39 PM

My DH bought me one of the IPhone player things! You just set your phone in the front and whatever you can listen to on your phone plays through the speakers...so, I downloaded an audiobooks program. Now, I can select a book, hook it up and listen to it all day. Just last week, I "read" "Uncle Tom's Cabin", and before that, "The Tragedy of Puddin'Head Wilson."

PamB8s 06-26-2011 04:40 PM

Laundry, Laundry, Laundry. I love doing laundry because the washer and dryer are in my sewing room, Gives me an excuse to go hide out all day. :-P

Haha!!!

Minnisewta 06-26-2011 07:04 PM

I use to sew in the dinning room and could hear the TV and see the reflection in a glass covered picture. I never watch daytime TV so it was just in the evening. Now I do my sewing in a small bedroom and have brought the Sirius radio in so I can listen to Classic Country. Nothing like a little Hank Williams or Merle Haggard to get your toes a tappin.

jane65us 06-26-2011 07:52 PM

I get Audio Books from the Library, and listen while I'm sewing. Time goes by really fast...

cr12cats 06-26-2011 08:05 PM

lol that reminded me of the rare times i had to my self and couldn't decide what to do and by the time i did they were back already. i did alot of stuff at night when everyone was in bed and slept in the morning while they were at work and school. up in time to get them and then clean up and cook etc.after night shifts and that i still have my nights and days mixed up.

Grandma Mary 06-26-2011 08:06 PM

I have my computer in the same room as my sewing, and I love to listen to music on the Pandora website at http://www.pandora.com/#/. It's free!
You choose the artists you want to listen to, and the site plays that music, as well as music from other artists whose genre is similar. If you don't like one of their selections you just click the thumb down picture. If you want more of the same thing, you click the thumbs up and they will play it more often. You can play just one of your artists, but I like to play a mix of all of mine. It's continual music with just a 15 second ad every 20 minutes or so. (If you want you can get a paid membership and skip the ads.)You may also bookmark your favorites and download them if you are a paying member.

quiltinghere 06-26-2011 08:11 PM

I listen to radio that has a 1 HOUR sleep timer on it. When it goes off - I get up - usually flipping a load of laundry or some other necessary thing in life! :)

auntpiggylpn 06-26-2011 08:36 PM

Sometimes I have the tv on just for background noise. Prefer the silence!

I've never tried to watch a movie AND sew. I usually just enjoy the quiet (if I have it) otherwise I listen to music. I'll let you know later how it goes!

Can you watch TV or a movie while sewing?

I listen to CD audio books from the library. Especially thrillers and chillers, but I turn them off during the time I am measuring for cutting!

Quilted Dogs 06-27-2011 12:49 AM

LOVE TO LISTEN TO CLASSIC COUNTRY MUSIC, RELAXING AND THE OLD STYLE. ALSO, LIKE A MOVIE OR PUT IN SOME CD OF QUILTING AND LISTEN TO TIPS.....

grammysharon 06-27-2011 10:32 AM

Listen to CD's.

tntgranny 06-28-2011 08:00 AM

When I converted a bedroom into my sewing room one of the first things I got was a TV with a cable DVR. Record programs my husband isn't necessarily interested in watching with me and I watch (listen??) to them when I sew. He has kind of taken over the living room DVR - even questions when I put something on it. Old movies, TNT and TBS summer series (Leverage, Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, etc) and my History Channel specials are always on when I'm in my room.

missgigglewings 06-29-2011 01:56 PM

Radio or CDs when I am piecing...movies when I am quilting!
I can FMQ a bed-size quilt and watch a movie. In 2 hours the movie is done and so is the quilt!

sarahconner 07-02-2011 04:42 AM

I put the movie on, but just have the volume up, while am sewing. So basically I'm just listening to it
