I have the entire day to myself, which rarely happens with 4 kids at home. I have a movie and am going to sew. Not sure if I am going to start a new project or finish FMQ my DD's quilt. Thinking I need to finish one before I start another !

I've never tried to watch a movie AND sew. I usually just enjoy the quiet (if I have it) otherwise I listen to music. I'll let you know later how it goes!

Can you watch TV or a movie while sewing?

kiesh 06-25-2011 07:48 AM

I usually have a movie on in the background. I make sure it's one I've seen many times, so that way I can just listen and still know what is going on.

helou 06-25-2011 07:49 AM

no, not me! may be some music, radio or silence!!!

CoyoteQuilts 06-25-2011 07:49 AM

Yep sure can. It is more like background noise for me. TV is on all the time.

fluffynan 06-25-2011 07:53 AM

As housework takes a back seat when I am sewing, I'll sometimes set the timer for 15 min (think Flylady) and do something re housework. Makes me feel less guilty for then spending the next hour sewing LOL

I can sew all day (if I want to) - no kids to worry about - just a hubby :-) AND 4 dogs - let the dogs out, let the dogs in, let the dogs out, let the dogs in...................
I listen to MY music on my MP3 player. I will many times have the embroidery machine going while I sew on the other machine. Have to turn the music up loud so I can hear it over the noise of the machines.

I love listening to movies while I sew. Sometimes I look up and watch a little too ;-) Movies are perfect for binding. I'll line up 2 or 3 on binding day ;-)

CloverPatch 06-25-2011 08:13 AM

Most the time with movies, they are predictable. So I don't need to watch it, I can listen to it and still follow along. I do have on a show or a movie while sewing. If its a show Im really into, then Nope, can't do it. I end up not sewing and just watching it, LOL!

dd 06-25-2011 08:15 AM

I have a TV w/dvd player but most of the time I don't use it. If it's something I haven't seen before, I find myself watching too much and not working enough. Especially if I'm on someone else's time. I like the quiet.

nyelphaba 06-25-2011 08:18 AM

No, I cannot watch TV and sew. I am too easily distracted which leads to errors.
I can listen to music and sew, and I can walk and chew gum at the same time!

Same here, though I like to watch TV shows on DVD

katieranch 06-25-2011 08:21 AM

I usually have the tv on, not so much to watch as to have background noise. Silence is always around here, we live in the middle of no where, no traffic sounds, no neighbors. The TV keeps me from being startled when and if the dog barks or dh talks while I am engrossed in my quilting project.

ditto!

TonnieLoree 06-25-2011 08:23 AM

TV or stereo is always on for the company. I live alone but in the company of my cat.........Sounds like I need to get a life. :-(

Chasing Hawk 06-25-2011 08:24 AM

music or movies

Soon I will have satellite installed in my sewing room.

I have to have some sort of background noise or I can't work....lol

Goes back to the days when I worked in my business.

blueangel 06-25-2011 08:39 AM

I usually have the tv on while I am sewing. I have to have some noise.

gollytwo 06-25-2011 08:48 AM

Baseball game on TV if the Mets are playing; news station if not.
Or, listen to CDs my son has made for me of tracks I've picked.

pjustice63 06-25-2011 08:48 AM

Listen to books on tape. Love to read, too, so this satisfys both loves.

Rose L 06-25-2011 08:54 AM

No, I can't do it. I don't watch TV, ever, but I am a Netflix user and I try to watch one movie per day. I can't sew while I'm watching but I do have the freedom to sew any time I want to day or night.

lovingmama 06-25-2011 09:43 AM

Listen to some nice relaxing music or listen to books on CD. :P

irishrose 06-25-2011 09:44 AM

CDs only - occasionally the radio.

coloradosky 06-25-2011 09:52 AM

During the day if I am alone, I tune in "In Session" and listen to the live trials. Love that program! I generally tune to something I don't have to actually watch. At times I listen to music. I can't have something on that takes my attention away from sewing except when I am hand quilting or sewing on a binding.

Sadiemae 06-25-2011 10:14 AM

When I sew in the living room I listen to the tv. When I sew in my bedroom I listen to the radio, because I do not have a tv in the bedroom.

Jim 06-25-2011 10:31 AM

with 4 grandkids (1, 2, 2 and 6) here during the day 5 days a week...silence works best for me while sewing

Painiacs 06-25-2011 10:34 AM

Tv or ipod music. Depends on day and time.

sak658 06-25-2011 10:41 AM

Usually praying my seams match up or sewn the right way. LOL LOL

larkley 06-25-2011 10:43 AM

I always have the TV on when I sew. Right now I'm following the Casey Anthony trial, I've seen the Last Sammari a bazillion times now.

BellaBoo 06-25-2011 10:54 AM

I record my favorite late night radio show and listen to it while sewing. I like to hear the news that the main stream media doesn't report. I listen to a lot of economic reports from other countries.

FancyFoot 06-25-2011 11:04 AM

Have any baseball game on tv.
No game?
MLB channel for scores & highlights

mizunogirl 06-25-2011 11:34 AM

I turn on the TV, which is close to the sewing machine, but I admit that I mostly "watch" re-runs....

leatheflea 06-25-2011 12:49 PM

I like to listen to talk radio, Rush Limbaugh on weekday afternoons. I dont watch alot of tv so the EIB keeps me up on current events. And when I get tired of hearing them complain I listen to the radio. Some days I just listen to the birds outside my window.

kathdavis 06-25-2011 02:25 PM

I listen to TV while sewing most of the time. But, when I have a good book on CDs I listen to them when I sew. That is especially good when I sew at 1 and 2 in the morning and not much is on TV.

annyroony2 06-25-2011 04:32 PM

Depending on my mood, some days I enjoy silence and other days I put of some "old country" music and sew away.

QandE2010 06-25-2011 04:39 PM

It depends on what I am working on and how my mood is. Sometimes I listen to music on my MP3, listen to tv or listen to talk radio. But if I have my embroidery machine going and am sewing on the other machine, I usually want quiet. (That is an oxymoron, isn't it?)

ontheriver 06-25-2011 07:11 PM

I listen to music or listen to tv. sometimes I just like the quiet.

hperttula123 06-25-2011 07:49 PM

I don't think I could watch a movie and sew. I don't watch much tv. Just a few minutes before bed everynight and once in a while I can sit down for a part of a movie. Usually takes about 4 times to catch the whole movie. Music is always on. Gotta have something on in the background.

Ditto! I sew in the dining room and the TV is in the living room at a 90 degree angle so I CAN"T watch it but I do leave something on that I've seen and just listen.

Edie 06-26-2011 03:33 AM

I listen to audio books. Actually, it keeps me from getting distracted on what I am doing when I am sewing! Oh, yah! My sewing area is right by a window and I can look out and say hi to the neighbors also. They know exactly what I am doing too, so it's just a "hi, how are ya!" Edie

pakwoman 06-26-2011 04:02 AM

Most of the time, I sew in complete silence. I think it is because I work at Wal-Mart and it is so noisy, that I enjoy the peace and quiet when I get home. Plus, I can concentrate better.

romanojg 06-26-2011 04:20 AM

I have a little TV on my sewing desk and it's always on even if it's a cooking channel. I can't say that I "watch" the TV as much as listen to it and look up once in a while. I don't like quiet.
