Who would you lunch/ dinner with if you had the chance?

I was replying to a post recently and thought who would I like to have a wonderful lunch/dinner with if I ever could in my lifetime. Would that person be a living person or someone who has passed?

I can think of a few people whom I would love to have a luncheon with:
1. People on the quilt board (count as 1!LOL)
2. My great great grandmother on my mother's side-for her quilting abilities and ability to laugh (so I was told)
3. My great great grandmother on my father's side- for her love of life, sewing, crafting and a history lesson or two
4. Nigella
5. Katherine Hepburn
and there are others, but those are my top 5.

So my question to you all: If you had an all expense paid lunch/dinner: who would you want to have lunch or dinner with ? currently living or deceased.

Tartan 10-11-2012 07:39 AM

I think all my loved ones who have passed on but then I would be sad again after dinner. I will wait and have my big dinner party when I get to Heaven.

TanyaL 10-11-2012 08:25 AM

Above all others, Jesus the Christ, then
1. John the Apostle to ask to explain more fully the Book of Revelation
2. Albert Einstein
3. Billy Graham
4. My Father
5. 3 children that I miscarried
6. Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio
7. George S Patton

NanaCsews2 10-11-2012 08:44 AM

My father, my mother, all my siblings at the same time, Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Warren Buffet, Mr. Fred Rogers, Ellen DeGeneres, Jesus Christ. Everyone covers what is important to me: Family, Intelligence-because I could use some more regarding political, life, wealth. I don't think these people would 'dumb me down') Morals and Values, Laughter and Caring, and Faith.

My list would be rather long - but while considering spending a lunch time and considering I have a lot of questions about my great grandmother and how she and my great grandfather married in Colorado - bother were from the town of Burlington, Kansas. I would like to spend that time with my great grandmother. (We called her Nanny.)

My great-grandmother was a seamstress and hat maker. She went to Oklahoma during the Oklahoma land rush to claim land for her brother who was still too young. She was a small person 4'10" tall, but was not frail. It was after she went to Oklahoma and obtained the land, she ended up in Colorado - they were married and returned to Burlington a shot time after that. The reason I knew that much I found an old newspaper article that was announcing their return to Burlington - where she lived until she died. (He died before I was born so never met him.) So I asked my grandmother and she didn't know how they got to Colorado, and neither my mom or her sister knew.

This little woman was feisty and I would have loved to know more - much more. When we would visit her we were kept away from her - so I grew up thinking she didn't like children. Turns out that wasn't true either. She didn't want us to be kept away - it was our grandmother and my mother trying to protect her from us. (There were 3 of us - I was 6, and my sisters we 8 & 10 when she died at the age of 85. She had been confined to a wheel chair after she broke her hips.) And if I remember correctly it was her father that was a trail boss of wagon trains between Kansas and California.

We lost so much - if you didn't ask the question no one bothered to tell you anything family related.

My paternal grandmother! I never knew her and her life was a sad story as she took her life at age 49, the mother of 10 children. A kind step mother was my "grandma", a she was good to all of us grands. (50 of us!). The family stayed very close, even till today with only 2 children still living. But, almost NOTHING was really ever shared about Grandma and I guess the pain was too great, but I have always wanted to know anything and everything about her! Am I like her?.....anyway, that's who I'd like to set down to dinner with!!

ptquilts 10-11-2012 09:52 AM

My mom, who died when I was nine. I would love to be able to meet her as an adult. So much to ask her..

Ellen 10-11-2012 11:48 AM

First choice would be my mother's father....Papa was my special love. He passed almost 50 yrs ago but I still miss him. Behind the house we lived in was the Penobscot River and on the other side of that was the mill. In the winter, Papa would walk across the logs (trees) frozen in the river to get to work....after the thaw he would have to walk around to go to work or get home. I used to wait for him at the bottom of the hill until I spotted him coming down the sidewalk then I would race up the hill to walk with him the rest of the way home. It was just our special time alone. My mom told me a few yrs back that he loved all babies....it showed too.

Did you realize what a heart rendering question this was? I was thinking famous people - Sister Theresa - Oprah, etc., but not some of the bittersweet answers you are getting. Interesting.

ranger 10-11-2012 12:52 PM

I am with all those that want to meet relatives that have passed on.
I would dearly love to see my grandfather again. He died in 1977 and I still dream about him.
I was closer to him than to any other relative. He and Nannie practically reared me and I was always his favorite grandchild.

I am working on my family tree and always wish I could talk to my ancestors.
I always wonder what kind of lives they had.

gollytwo 10-11-2012 01:06 PM

My parents and grandparents, the latter I never met at all.
One of my oldest friends, since the 1st grade, who died in 2001 - a nightmare year.

Sue Keida, a Board member, with whom I've become friends - sight unseen and despite her being a Yankee fan.

Susan G. 10-11-2012 03:36 PM

My paternal grandmother, who died before i was born in a car wreck- my maternal grandfather , who died when i was 3, Opra , Martha Stewart, Cher. These 3 women have done extremely well without men- Sorry Guys- My favorite Uncle Wayne whom I still miss everyday. These are only a few.

cathyvv 10-11-2012 08:39 PM

Call me crazy, but I'd pick my husband. I really enjoy being with him, even after 29.75 years of wedded bliss.

Next would be any or all of my grands. They see the world with such innocence and trust, and sometimes I need to be reminded that both innocence and trust still exist in this big world of ours. Not to mention that I love them and don't see them nearly enough.

donnalynett 10-11-2012 09:17 PM

Due to my health issues I am sure I will be sitting down to a wonderful reunion with all my ancestors before I finish using my fabric stash! So I guess the ones I would like to meet with while I am still alive would be:
1. Tony Stewart
2. Mitt Romney
3. Donald Trump
4. Sarah Palin
5. All of my living classmates

kathbug 10-12-2012 03:51 AM

I would love to talk with my my fathers parents again. My grandfather died when I was just 5 . I was his favorite my mom told me. Sails he would give my siblings a nickel and always give me 50 cents. That I don't remember but I know I was very close to him. When your young you don't think about where you had co e from. We are German and would love to know all about our heritage . Good question!

PATTIESPEARL 10-12-2012 04:15 AM

My first choice would be my Son. It has been 11 years and I still miss him so much. There would not be a lot of eating done, mostly hugging him to my heart while I had the chance.

sewnsewer2 10-12-2012 05:03 AM

Of course all my family members living and deceased (at the same time). Or John Stamos, but I think I'd be drooling too much to eat! :D

LenaBeena 10-12-2012 07:14 AM

Many of my relatives who had such interesting lives in Germany and the Netherlands before coming on a ocean voyage to a new country, enduring hardships of ranching, fighting wars, on and on. Then my twins that I miscarried, many Biblical figures, and since its possible to go back in time, I would go forward and see my great-great grandchildren. Wow, what a wonderful thought!

mythreesuns 10-12-2012 08:44 AM

Mine would have to be my husbands father. He died when my husband was only 14, and he has such respect for family and is so ever different then his siblings. I would love to get to know the man that made my husand the best husband/father a man could be. Just ask our neighbor kids...when they come to the door and knock...asking... can Mr. Mythreesuns come out to play today???

vickster 10-12-2012 09:30 AM

would love to have a long long lunch with 1. eleanor burns 2 my fathers mother for her quilting. my aunt mary for she is a real giggle. and my great greats that quilted.

Chasing Hawk 10-12-2012 09:36 AM

My Gram and my Aunt Christine. My Aunt would have to translate the conversation. Because my Gram only spoke in Ojibwae, the language of the Saginaw Chippewa.

Russel Means and Leonard Peltier along with Dennis Banks, now that would be some interesting dinner conversation.

Tommy Lee Jones and Sam Elliot (I would be at the table wearing a drool cloth over my shoulder)......LOL

Learner747 10-12-2012 09:49 AM

I asked my DH the question and he said, "You." What a nice dinner he is going to get tonight.:)
Since I am already having lunch with him, I would say Jesus, the King of kings, my GC, Abraham Lincoln, Galileo, Pat Robertson, and Billy Graham.

Retired Fire Chief 10-12-2012 10:23 AM

Like others, my first thought was Jesus, but I talk to him all the time. I also thought of relatives that have passed, but I will be with them again some day. So more than others, I would love to have a chance to talk and listen to the young man that gave my husband his heart.

Stitch124 10-12-2012 10:31 AM

Mom and Dad. I lost Dad when he was 47 and I was 15. He was the love of my life.....:-(

maryellen2u 10-12-2012 11:21 AM

I have a huge family with lots of nieces and nephews spread all over the country. I would love to have an event with them all there with my brothers and sisters (12 of us) with my deceased parents and grandparents. I still miss my Mom and Grandma so much. It would be amazing to dine with Jesus. I also think I would enjoy eating with a great author like John Steinbeck or Pearl Buck. Very good question! Thanks for asking.

Ladibug 10-12-2012 11:44 AM

My son who I lost 6 1/2 yrs ago.

jodyma 10-12-2012 12:07 PM

Wow, these answers are so heart rending. My answer would be
1. My precious family on earth
2. My precious family in Heaven
3. Jesus Christ
4. Crazy Horse
5. Hazel of the '60's sitcom to clean up and straighten out 1 and 2(mostly 2)

charlottemarie 10-12-2012 12:49 PM

I would like to meet my father. He took his own life at 24 and I was just a baby. I attend our family reunion every year and I take the only known photo of him that my cousin so graciously traced down for me. I'd like to know why and I would just love to have some time with him.

dreamboat 10-12-2012 01:10 PM

My mother, my father, both grandmothers, and both grandfathers.

CarolinePaj 10-12-2012 02:03 PM

Of course I would love to have that time with my Dad, Mum and sweet brother..... But if we had to choose non related people I would have......

1. Anne Boleyn
2. Marilyn Monroe
3. Queen Elizabeth I
4. Stephen Fry
5. Jane Austin
6. Elton John

an interesting mix???????

hugs

Caroline

One of the main Knights Templar......did they really go off with the Chalice or the Ark of the Covenant and did they ever come to North America?
A Peruvian King.......how did those lines and animal shapes get on top of a mountain and why?
A Mesa Verde, CO, Cliff Dweller.......did they ever worry about their toddlers falling 'overboard' from those cliff homes and why live there in the first place??
Sarah and Abraham.....what was it like to have a baby at age 90?!!
A Chinese person, a European person, and an Egyptian from 2000B.C. to compare how and why Europe was so far behind the others in civilization and inventions.
Shakespeare.....did he really write all the works attributed to him?
A very distant relative named Martha Frances Collier who made a quilt ca. 1780 that I inherited and donated to the Textile Museum at Colonial Williamsburg........Did she ever live at Portobello Plantation (now Camp Peary in Williamsburg VA), did she make other quilts, how did she meet her husband (from whom I get part of my name)?

I'm sure there are others to invite to "my table" if I had more time to think of them.:)

Oh I like them too but Glenn is my favorite.

KwiltyKahy 10-13-2012 04:14 AM

I had thought about this several years ago and I think my answer is still the same. Isaac Asimov. He was interested and knowledgeable in so any different things I've always thought it would be great to talk to him.

I wonder if any of us are journaling our lives so our future family won't have some of the questions we are asking? I haven't. My life seems too uneventful to bother! But that is not true when I think about the interest I have in my past family's daily life!
