Like a lot of women my age, I'm having a little trouble with "middle age spread". I recently read an article that said to avoid heart disease your waist measurement should be no more that half your height. I did some measuring and some quick calculations and decided that I don't need to get slimmer - I just need to get taller. So I'm canceling the gym membership and from now on you'll find me at the playground hanging by my ankles from the monkeybars!

sunflower126 03-08-2011 01:31 PM

I'll meet you there!

LoriEl 03-08-2011 01:32 PM

I guess I should try it but let me know if it works first!

QuiltnCowgirl 03-08-2011 01:33 PM

Yup - I have a goal weight & a goal height. Still searching for the magic solution for both.

M.E.H. 03-08-2011 01:34 PM

Move over and make room for me!! :D

Izaquilter 03-08-2011 01:43 PM

wanderingcreek 03-08-2011 02:09 PM

I think that is a wonderful idea so if you have room I'd love to join you there.

quiltinggrandmaca 03-08-2011 02:19 PM

That's a good one, thanks.

bkb 03-08-2011 03:53 PM

Are you saying you are vertically challenged for weight proportion?

teacherbailey 03-09-2011 03:22 AM

I'm tall----5'10"----but not double my waist measurement! I need to grow a few more inches in height, too. BUT---even my doc says I have "large bone structure" so maybe I don't need to grow as much as I think I do!!!!!

Repeat after me (5'10").....It's easier to hem pants than find them long enough!!!!! 6' is just too tall!!!!! (unless you're OK with living in men's clothes, that is.....)

Definitely too tall! I'm 6' tall and very thin and I've always had trouble finding pants or sleeves long enough for me. I can't buy pants or jeans straight off the rack because they just don't fit. It's very frustrating. I can't wear shoes with heels either :?

I would gladly swap some of my height for some weight ;-)

Just picturing that sure makes me happy I live in South Central Kentucky -- a safe zone at a distance of 230 mile m/l.

tdgiffin 03-09-2011 04:37 AM

Lol me too.

smagruder 03-09-2011 04:51 AM

If those calculations are true..... I am taller than 7 ft. 8 inches. Meeting you at the monkey bars.

QBeth 03-09-2011 05:00 AM

One of the best comedy lines I've ever heard is from the show Cheers. Forgive me if I don't get it quite right...

As he walks in, someone asks "what are you up to, Norm?" He answers, "My proper weight if I was 11 feet tall!"

About sums it up, doesn't it?!

Midwestmary 03-09-2011 05:31 AM

I always knew that my problem with spread had nothing to do with what I ate - now I know the answer....I just need to get taller!!! You guys just made my day :)

nannya54 03-09-2011 06:31 AM

My "pear" has turned into an "apple" but that's still considered a "shape" so I'm in shape.

janalee 03-09-2011 08:27 AM

Pam, You already know you're headed for Youtube!!!

LovingIzabella 03-09-2011 09:34 AM

I can see it now in the local news:
Monkey Bars-Gone to the Bats?
Local officials were stunned on Sunday when they saw all of the local playground monkey bars covered in mammals hanging upside down. And what kind of mammals were these? Not bats. opossums? No. They were women!! When asked the women said they were quilters working on their weight versus height proportions to insure optimum health benefits for thier hearts. All the little kids watched in awe at the over taking of their monkey bars. Will this be a new trend? Stay tuned for updates.....
:-)
Hugs
April
PS Who will be at the monkey bars at 12 on Saturday

Lee Benedict 03-09-2011 09:36 AM

I'd have to stretch to 7 foot. Then would be just right.

Sallyflymi 03-09-2011 09:42 AM

LOL. What time did you say this club started. I needed to be there yesterday.

Me, too! Just went in for a bone density test and found out I've already shrunk an inch! :(

Ritacarl 03-09-2011 10:59 AM

I'm 71 and I lost 30 pounds!!! Hurray for me. Took
1-1/2 years but I did it. Now to not put it back on. I told my husband that in the past year and a half I have eaten an apple orchard, a banana plantation and a grape vineyard. That's what I snacked on when I got hungry between meals. I don't know when I'll be able to eat lettuce again and enjoy it. But it was worth every minute.
