Although I'm retired now, I still send clothes to the cleaners. I'd rather be quilting than ironing. And yes it becomes a chore when you have to iron shirts.
I hear you! My husband always make comment to family & frineds how he can't get a button sewn on a shirt. I think our DHs need to learn how to sew! Ha!Ha!
This goes along with the shirt that needs ONE (yes, one) button sewn on---and the button is right there with it----that's been sitting in my crafting room for over a year, while I've worked on many UFO's and dreamed about other quilts that I want to make. I really like the shirt, too--- I just can't get around to that button. And I agree about the ironing as well!

If you weren't living in Minnesota I thought you could be talking about my husband. I hated those darn shirts and he took years to switch to poly/cotton shirts. Fortunately for my DIL - I taught my son how to iron and if he didn't want to iron his shirts he sent them to the cleaners. I trained him well - he even cooks, cleans and is a major hands -on father, and a very good one at that.

This happens to me also, not only with the iron.
I've been on the pc for a few hours especially on here or some other site relating to quilting and my DH asks if can he can get on the web to check on something and I fall to pieces as if IT WERE HE ON THE WEB and I need to check on My quilting information! I'm terrible, I know  |
Because ironing clothes is a chore!!!
WOW, I get this same thing, so I hand them coupons for the cleaners or tell them to do their own.
You hit the nail on the head when you said "chore". pressing seams is making something you enjoy!!!!!
I know exactly how you feel. Can quilt all day but do not ask me to shorten a pair of slacks.
Just throw it back in the dryer for a few minutes. that's my answer. hee hee.
because is IS a chore. Now, do you feel better??
Asking a quilter to mend is like asking Picasso to paint a garage.
(author unknown) My feelings exactly when my DH asks me to mend something for him. |
I always thought that is normal...
actually, I possess a mug that says "Quilters Don't Do Buttons"
there is an exception though. I do my husband's buttons. He rarely asks anything and I'm too cheap to give the money to the tailor! |

I might be crazy but I have always enjoyed ironing. Have done it for pay when we were stationed in Germany. I heavily starched Army fatigues for 22 years now dress shirts every week. And all my clothes. So its been almost 38 yrs. I couldn't the last 2 months because of a ruptured Achilles tendon and had surgery. My foot would swell and hurt so bad, but now I have extensive therapy, so I sit on a big stool and prop my foot on a chair. So as you can see, I am a crazy die-hard iron-er. My DH is still buggy my to let him take everything to the cleaners.I hate to spend[my fabric] money on it.
I don't know which is worse. Having to iron the shirt or look at DH wearing it because he put it on wrinkled an would not take it off so I could iron it.
I know the feeling - says she who's ironing basket is untidy and overflowing, but who's fat quarters, yardages etc. look so neat and pretty, washed and ironed immediately they're touch dry.
I agree. I'll spend all day sewing and when my husband gives me is jacket with a button to sew on I hand him the needle and thread.
