I love to hear the sound of children laughing and playing, birds singing, waves breaking on the beach and beautiful classical music. What sounds do other members like to hear ?

Qbee 11-04-2010 01:35 AM

I think we are too much alike...LOL. Mine are:
My children's voices, babies cooing, children laughing, sewing machines humming, the ocean waves, birds singing and the silence when I'm under water diving....it's like you can hear the sand moving......

Teacup 11-04-2010 02:02 AM

My grandchildren's voices, my hubby's laugh, my cat's purr, waves at the ocean, the wind in the leaves

scowlkat 11-04-2010 03:12 AM

My grandson's laugh and jabbering (seven months old and I am sure he has something profound to say!), my dogs when I come home - they get so excited!, music playing in the background while my Baby sews along!

cjomomma 11-04-2010 04:41 AM

I love all the ones mentioned but my favorite sound is when my children (the teenagers) are talking and laughing instead of fighting and yelling at each other. The sound of the front door when DH comes home from work. The silence when the older ones are off to school and DH & Eli are still asleep is it the only time my home is quiet.

amazon 11-04-2010 05:39 AM

Silence!LOL. I love the sound of my kids not fighting, the sound of a baby nursing( oh how I miss that one) the sound popcorn makes when its poppping in a metal pan, a tea kettle whistling The sound of my DH's trucks coming in the evening, the rumble of thunder, drizzling rain, the sounds of a beautiful spring morning before anyone else is up.A hawk and an owls call, cow calling her baby or goat too. and the humm of my sewing machine when she's in her stride. I could be here all day listing my blessings but I have to go make some noise( dishwasher and washer).

Feather3 11-04-2010 06:11 AM

The sound of the first Purple Martin returning in spring. Means I'll be blessed with another year of those wonderful birds in my martin house. My parrots talking, jabbering & laughing. The sound of my DH returning from work. My dogs, who get excited if I'm out of their sight for a few minutes. All the sounds of spring, the bugs, birds. The wind howling thru the trees on a warm night. My furnace kicking on, means it's working & we won't be cold. Rain on the roof. There's so many, but the most important one is....I can hear :).

feline fanatic 11-04-2010 07:12 AM

I so love everyone's responses and definitely kids laughing is a good one. I love the silly "woo-woo" howl my dog does when she is greeting me home. She doesn't bark hardly at all it is always this kind of wolf howl noise. I absolutely love the still quiet of the outside during a heavy snowfall. Everything is so muffled and peaceful and clean but you can hear a twig snap from a deer in the woods from a long ways off or the soft "whumff" noise when a buildup of snow falls from a bare tree branch. I always lift up thanks when I am outside at home during a snow. I am thankful for the serenity and beauty of the moment and very thankful I have a warm safe place to be.

Birds singing is a good one as well as a raptors cry. A cat purr or the purr-meow combo they often make when they have something good to tell you. Loons on a lake at dawn. A crackling campfire. Thunder in the distance.

It's lovely to read of all the sounds that make people happy, all of those I love too, except I don't have parrots, or teenagers and of course my two little dogs make a fuss when we return from being out. Thank God for our hearing.

BATIKQLTR 11-04-2010 07:54 AM

I also love hearing children playing and laughing. I like the sound of the wind blowing through pine trees or palm trees (depending where I am). I have a 4 year old neighbor girl that has a laugh/giggle that is so sweet (I get to hear that one often).

But most of all, I love hearing my car start when I turn the key the first time. ;-)

nativetexan 11-04-2010 08:32 AM

birds chirping, the wind in the trees, crickets, etc.

grannie-k 11-04-2010 08:49 AM

A baby's deep belly laugh, wind in the pine trees, frogs, hoot owls, just the nature sounds when sitting in the yard.

Ramona Byrd 11-04-2010 10:01 AM

Born and raised in the hills..the sound of wind in the trees soothes me and takes me way back in time.
The sound of water rippling over rocks when watching a bobbing plastic ball in the water while fishing.
The sound of giggling small kids in bed after being told to be quiet and go to sleep.
Laughing baby when he sees leaves falling around him.
Brother laughing while telling me a joke that I sent him weeks ago in an email!
The purring of my cat when he is nestled near my shoulder when I'm almost asleep.
Squeals of joy when out of state daughters walk in the door~

akrogirl 11-04-2010 04:11 PM

The nickers and whinnies of my wonderful horses, my dogs greeting me when I get home, and the purring of my cats :-)

Gramof6 11-04-2010 05:01 PM

All of these are really wonderful sounds. My all time favorite is a baby's giggle when they first laugh out loud. To me, there is no more precious sound than that.

littlehud 11-04-2010 08:30 PM

My DGD belly laugh. My kitty purring. Rain on the roof. My dog almost squealing when I come home.

Quiltforme 11-04-2010 08:56 PM

My sons giggle. His saying dada instead of daddy.

I agree with you on this one, nothing like hearing babies giggle, they always bring the biggest smile and make my heart sing. :D

QuiltswithConvicts 11-05-2010 04:23 AM

I love the sounds small kids make in church - those are sounds of a church that is growing, not stagnate or dying. It doesn't bother me one little bit if they fuss, or anything else. How else are they going to learn how to act in church?

One Sunday our pastor said, "Let us pray." and a small voice from behind me said, "OK."

How precious!

quiltmom04 11-05-2010 06:01 AM

I love the sound of the dishwasher becasue it reminds me of when I was little and dinner was over and everything cleaned up and Mom was home. It's been over 35 years since I've lived at home and that sound still makes me feel nostalgic!

Connie Merritt 11-05-2010 06:23 AM

The cooing of babies. My grandson at 5yrs of age. The family lived in an old house with a bathtub but no shower. One weekend at our home I told him to take a shower and he looked at me like, Oh Oh. But I talked him into it and I left the bathroom door open to make sure he would be okay. Well, to my wonderful surprise as I walked by I heard him singing at the top of his voice; the sound of that will live within me always. Can you tell he is my hearts treasure.

nena 11-05-2010 07:01 AM

I love storms, the rain, wind ,thunder all of it. Everyone tells me that is how I will die . LOL (struck by lightening)
I go out and set in my rocking chair and rock away and just enjoy it.

lynnie 11-05-2010 07:56 AM

running water( water falls) windchi, mes the waves at the beach

lillybeck 11-05-2010 08:39 AM

There is nothing sweeter than childrens voices. I miss my grandchildren very much and was ecstatic when five moved next door just so I could listen to them. My kids and older grandkids used to laugh at me because I would just watch the kids and now some of them finally get it.

sculpyfan 11-05-2010 09:57 AM

I love to hear the wind rattle the window panes. In my house I can't hear it but in older homes it is a reminder of being snug and warm at home or my granny's. I'm 66 but it still makes me feel comfortable. Growing up we didn't have central air and when it was really cold there would be tons of quilts on the bed and it was hard to turn over. I have my bedroom cold with a window unit, even in winter, because it makes me feel safe and warm.

All lovely sounds! None of us realize how fortunate we are to hear. My stepdtr is deaf and just had a cochlear implant put in 2 wks ago. she will have it activated week after next. I asked her what would be the first thing she would want to hear, she said music so she could sing and dance!

judi wess 11-05-2010 11:32 AM

All of the sounds listed above and the special one...the sound thread makes as I pull it through the quilt layers, almost like a whisper.

mhansen6 11-05-2010 11:49 AM

The sound of the breeze through our pine trees. Heavenly.

Quilt Mom 11-05-2010 12:52 PM

I like hearing a river. The sound lulls me to sleep when we camp.

ann clare 11-05-2010 01:21 PM

I love to hear teenagers and older children laughing.

Dortha 11-05-2010 01:33 PM

Soft summer rain, thunder, geese flying overhead, windchimes

I love to hear the sound of company coming for a visit or my dog barks to let me know someone is at the door, children & adults taking & laughing & best of all, did someone say foods on?

luckylindy333 11-05-2010 05:59 PM

My favorite sound is my former boss sitting in his office laughing. He got promoted and our new boss is OK, but he does not laugh like that. Oh, and a baby's first laugh... :)

And it's equally as nice to walk through the hallways at school when all the kids are busy in their classes - peeking through the open doorways and hearing the hum.

Sunflower7 11-05-2010 06:17 PM

Birds...any kind. Geese in the fall.

theoldgraymare 11-05-2010 06:27 PM

Rain on a tin roof, my bamboo windchimes, a mourning dove's call early in the morning, leaves rustling in a breeze, my old dog's snoring...

Rann 11-05-2010 07:35 PM

I love to hear my dog walking down the hall to see if I am awake. Her tags make her jingle.

Judie 11-05-2010 08:18 PM

I like to be awake very early in the morning.. If you are you get to hear the birds wake up.. one will cheep.. then pretty soon another.. then two or three.. pretty soon they are all awake and chattering up a storm..

I love to hear my husband sleeping peacefully beside me... (I know, too mushy)

My grandbabies laughing make me laugh too.. I love that.

JuBee 11-05-2010 09:16 PM

My darling daughter (who has been fighting pancreatic cancer since February of 2008) saying, "Hello, Mom."
