I would buy it but would appreciate the seller letting me know first about the problem. That said, why don't you add a vertical row of red, white and blue buttons on the right side? It might make the off-centered pocket look intentional...?

Maride 01-08-2011 07:20 AM

It is hard to notice on the picture, but just be careful. If you sell it at Etsy or Ebay you may get a picky customer that could ruin your reputation. If you still think you can sell it, reduce the price a bit and mention the imperfection, so they can't say they didn't know. It is barely noticeable, but there are some mean spirits out there.

I like this idea, or else a loop they could hook keys into. Mom and I made Elvis bags for Christmas presents and this year at Menards they had Elvis "stockings" that are about 5" tall shaped like a boot and pant leg. We're going to use them like coin purses to attach or, I suppose they could even be pockets too.

You can't really tell in the picture. If you can tell more in real life, you could always add a "charm" or something on one side to offset it....it was planned that way, wasn't it?

koko 01-08-2011 09:12 AM

If you had not mentioned the problem I'm not sure if I would have noticed the pocket being a little off center. My eye naturally went to the colorful fabric first not the pocket. We do tend to be our own worse critics. If you are really concerned I'd mention it in the description and offer a little off on it.

I have bought things from people on this board that were not perfect, it wasn't noticeable in the pictures but I noticed it when I received it. I personally think it is the flaws in handmade items that make them so interesting and unique to the crafter. Some of the things I've bought were purchased as gifts and no one has ever complained! I used to point out my mistakes when someone was buying something from me but then realized that nobody really notices the mistakes unless you point them out to them. Some mistakes are glaring and ruin an item, it's true, but most just "fade" into the project.

At least....that's what I think.

Ditto.

No, sorry, I would not. Once I bought an embroidered sweatshirt and did not realize until I wore it the first time that the design was not centered properly on the sweatshirt. I was very concious of it when I wore it the first time so I never wore it again. I think I dropped it at Goodwill. Now I am much more careful when I purchase handmade items at a craft fair/festival.

Could you add a small skinny pocket for a pen alongside it, making the front more symetrical?

Here is a pic of the outside panel with the pocket...if I were to add a small pocket, I think it would extend further then I would want.....

With that busy pattern it's not that noticeable

redhawk 01-08-2011 05:32 PM

It's only a fuzz off----don't think many people would even notice if it's something they really want.

I had a 'complainer' at a craft show one time who didn't like the color of some leather key fobs I'd made. I'd left them natural instead of dying and she pawed through all of them just to find faults. She already done the same with other vendors in my hearing so I was ready. With a perfectly straight face I told her, "God made the cow. The hide was good enough for Him." :) It was worth having her huff away just to get my fellow crafters to laugh and break the tension.

Would rather lose a sale than have something I put love into go to an unappreciated home.

Would you consider adding a slender pocket for an ink pen on the right side of the pocket you already have on it?
The ink pen pocket would be just about the perfect size to bring the balance back.
It is very nice. There is no reason to give it away..

I added my response and then read the other responses. Can you tell? Love your idea. :)

sgraves1959 01-08-2011 06:24 PM

what is Etsy?

Busy Bee 01-08-2011 09:45 PM

Go ahead and post pictures and try to sell it. I would probably not say anything about it being off center just post picture of the pocket.

chickadeee55 01-09-2011 04:23 AM

If you won't have told me, I probably won't have noticed it.

But you could try adding a trim on the both sides of the pocket, coloring matching bias tape or something like that and add it to cover up the error on the one side. (you could use hand blind sewing or steam a seam to attach it)

I agree we are our worst judges.

quiltmom04 01-09-2011 07:36 AM

I answered before I saw the picture of the bag. Why don't you do what many LA quilters do when they are starting out - donate their work until they are good enough to charge for it? I'm guessing you would like to develop a business with this. Wouldn't you rather have a reputation of outstanding workmanship and command a good price for it, than selling work that you KNOW is not good enough and just getting a few bucks - and maybe be left with a reputation of mediocre craftsmanship? Not that your bag isn't fun -the fabric is great! You clearly have a good eye in choosing it. I'm just saying...

just_the_scraps_m'am 01-09-2011 07:52 AM

who says the pocket has to be centered?
i think it is JUST FINE!

cheryl rearick 01-09-2011 12:19 PM

I think someone who quilts would be more critical of what a sewed idem looks like. Someone not use to sewing would probably never see a flaw, they would be looking for do I like this color, would this fit my need?

cheryl rearick 01-09-2011 12:20 PM

I only noticed because she mentioned it :) truth The color is so vivrant that was what I first seen at a glance.

rob529 01-09-2011 03:15 PM

Depends on the circumstances. From a store, no. From a charity bazaar, yes.

Perfection is way overated. It never happens, there is always something that could have been improved on.
