Yet another dumb tv program..

This is '500 questions' - wow! I do like semi intelligent game shows like jeopardy, and actually that's probably the only one around, but this one is over the top.....the dramatic light show, strange music and the format are really bizzare. the questions were really tough and 5 seconds to answer....contestants had the smarts to answer, but trying to follow the pattern of this program was a bit confusing. Needless to say, won't watch again....summer tv watching is going to be a real drag.

ManiacQuilter2 05-28-2016 05:45 AM

I rarely watch anything new when I am quilting. Today I am binging on one of my favorite movies, A Night's Tale since this is the last day it will be on HBO Demand.

lynnie 05-28-2016 07:38 AM

my dh can't understand why i don't like it. it think you hit the nail on the head.

GramE 05-28-2016 09:11 AM

Too much chit chat going on. And quite a bit of braggadocio!

Sandra in Minnesota 05-28-2016 10:51 AM

500 Questions had Ken, the all-time winner of Jeopardy, as a contestant. He got two strikes right away, and I shut off the tv. Only 5 seconds to answer the questions, and they were way beyond me. Dumb is right!

I must live in the Boonies because I never heard of the show - can't say I am sorry!!!!! It seems to me that television has depleted the intelligence of everyone. Now I know why I go to the library and get audiobooks. Or play in the garden or sit on the deck and sew binding or embroider a Christmas quilt that I have been working on for a good five years now!!!!! I have my dog, Bess, two parakeets (BB and Bitz) and two finches (Beaujolais and Bordeaux - each one called "Bo". Their actions sure beat some of these television shows!!!!! I just finished watching the whole series of "7th Heaven" from the late l980's and the shows were so good. They are rerunning them now on the UP Channel. Those were the good days of TV - Edie

paoberle 05-29-2016 03:47 AM

Why is the show "dumb" just because the questions are tough? Try watching for a while, you might just learn something.

Pretty much have given up on TV period. I do confess I love Walking Dead but cannot stand all the waiting between seasons. But I do cave when it comes back on. I like Dr Pol, Little Couple, and a couple of others, mainly on Tuesdays and of course Sunday. I don't have the patience to watch dumb anymore!!

tessagin 05-29-2016 06:58 AM

It's only suppose to be on a few nights. Kind of like a short pilot/filler. I'd rather see nothing but blank space.

I don't live in the boonies and I've never heard of this show. But then again, I don't watch the so-called "reality shows" or game shows. I stick with my regular shows and occasionally something new comes on that I like. Most of my TV watching is things I've recorded on my DVR or things my husband likes like "Ancient Aliens" :D I only watch that show to see the guy with the big hair. It seems to get bigger and then smaller as the show progresses. Small things entertain me. :)

I do not have cable or satellite...no TV...gave it up several years ago; could no longer stand the inane shows and especially obnoxious commercials...30 minute shows were down to about 15 minutes show and 15 minutes commercials. Shows I want to see, I get on the TV screen (without commercials) fom the internet.

Me too. If anything new is on I find myself watching it rather than sewing. In those instances I am actually glad for the commercials as I sew like a crazed fiend when those come on.

gale 05-29-2016 09:50 AM

This is the first time I've had almost nothing on my list of shows to record. I added Mistresses last night (which starts on Monday) and I will be recording the last couple episodes of The Americans. I also am a little excited to start watching America's Got Talent again. I have missed Simon Cowell's wit on AI and am looking forward to seeing him on AGT. Although I wish they would get rid of both women and get one intelligent one.

Devious Maids is a fun watch-I'll be adding that when it starts next month.

She listed several reasons why she thinks it's dumb. Not just the questions.

TeesMeema 05-29-2016 10:02 AM

It's HGTV for me.

I listen to Classical Music as I sew. When I do watch tv as I quilt I watch HGTV or Create Tv.

500 questions

I didn't care for it either and I'm a big fan of Jeopardy. Also too many reality shows coming on and most of them are staged. I plan to quilt more and watch less this summer.

That is the same part I saw, did the same thing--tv off. Who makes up all these stupid shows, the free antenna channels have more to offer than the networks.

I must say, I have over the years watching question/answer programs..learned many things, some useful and some just rattle around in my brain...but once in awhile I will answer an odd question with the correct answer and my kids think I'm a genius....I'll just let them continue thinking that....
I tuned in quite by accident and thought I'd check it out....the "dumb" part, in my estimation, was certainly not the level of intelligence it took to answer the subject matter correctly in 5 seconds, and the academic qualifications of the contestants was impressive, but rather the basic format..as far as making it a "light show" - over dramatic background music, and how the contestants actually competed/ answering questions. Along with a few additional bits of real intelligent information, I "learned" not to watch this program again.........

tessagin 05-29-2016 06:29 PM

I agree and I couldn't believe Dan Harris was hosting or one of the hosts.

Guess I'll be the odd person as I really enjoy the show. We watched it last year and were very happy to see it return this year. The rules are actually pretty simple but it does take a little to catch on and understand the scoring. I really enjoy learning odd nuggets of information so find this show enjoyable.

MaryKatherine 05-30-2016 03:22 AM

We dropped cable a few years ago and use a wifi link and stream everything.
Or at least hubby does. I can't even turn it on any more.
Maybe that's a good thing. LOL

jcrilley 05-30-2016 03:33 AM

I didn't make it through the second contestant. Stupid show!!! No chance of armchair participation like Jeopardy

Battle Axe 05-30-2016 03:44 AM

There is a new show called The Loud House. For anyone who has lived with brothers and sisters in a chaotic house, this is hilarious.

I had a bat in the house last night and I think I need a mental tune-up.

I rent in a place where cable is furnished (I don't pay for it) - Xfinity with OnDemand. Many times I find NOTHING I want to watch. No way would I ever pay for it. I found more enjoyable shows to watch with an antenna, when all I got was PBS from 2 states, in the place I used to live.

Edie 05-30-2016 05:07 AM

Good Morning! There are some shows that I like, I have to admit that - like "Ax Man", "Gold Rush", I like some of the shows on HGTV, a lot of the shows on UP, BUZZR, Yesterday morning I watched "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" from the 60's, or "F-Troop", "Doogie Howser" No cussing, no double entendres, just good old fashioned clean comedy. Gotta admit, I am addicted to "Survivor", and "Amazing Race". And, I have "On Demand" and I can watch them whenever I want to. "The Bible" is good! "The Goldbergs" are hilarious. I live in St. Paul, capitol city of Minnesota - which, with 3 hundred and some thousand people in the city is still the boonies - we are from the old cloth! It is just that I like clean humor, Jeopardy, and shows that aren't blatantly suggestive and I can still use my own mind for words that they are using on TV. You might just as well say the words that are "bleeped" out than not say the words. We are not stupid. I can't use the words freaky, freak, freakin' anymore because it means another word. FROM TELEVISION, I am sure!!!!!!! There, I have vented my spleen for the day, am having #1 son, daughter in law, grand kids over for Famous Dave's BBQ'd ribs and enjoy the sun, the newly mowed lawn and remember my husband who is at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
