I don't think our small town PO will close anytime soon. When we were first married, our mail was delivered at 10:30 A.M. You could set your clock by it. Around 1976 the Amish moved into our area and now we get our mail at 4:40 P.M.
They have sometimes 3 homes on a farm and they each have their own mailbox!!!! |
Our post office is not on the list. Who knows?
|
They already closed one in our area, and now, according to the list, they may close the main one. Jeesh!
|
Our Post Office is on the list and I wouldn't be surprised if they did close it, but it sure would be a "big" problem for many disadvantaged people nearby who cannot get to the main PO easily. We've had a PO Box there since moving here and it certainly would be difficult to give it up.

Looked at the list and my little town is on there. The local postmaster said they might have boxes all lined up outside so we could get our mail from rural delivery guy. That would be so much fun in the rain and snow. Ugh!
|
No - our little PO was not on the list. Stayed up to see the news last night for that very reason. It sure is convenient so I am glad I won't have to drive farther to mail out blocks of the month and the monthly SWAP!

Thankfully our town is not on the list at this time.

Well the feds came to our little town of about 2500 and were going to close down the old main Post Office. We have 2 in our town, one in our 3-block downtown section and one at the south end of town. Our town is also the county seat. They held a open meeting to express our concerns. I would have been upset to see that main office close. Everyone I know that works for the county (including me) walked to the post office every day to pick up mail. I got the box at the main PO because it was convenient. To get to the other PO, you would have to get in your car and drive.
The main PO has been sitting there since the early 1900. Well after the meeting it was determined that it would remain open. One battle won!!! |
Wow. Checked out NM and some of the post offices, Orogrande, for example is an hour from any other place with a post office. Wonder how that's gonna work out for them and other even more rural areas.
|
One of ours is close to us and losing it. They will have to drive about 12-15 miles to find a post office. A very difficult time.

Thanks for the link!

This is happening all over the UK. Postman said if not for the junk mail he would be out of a job! What I can't understand is with the number of items sold and posted on e-bay, which costs far more than a postage stamp, the PO must be making money. Also if the mail load is so small why is it taking so much longer to reach us.
|
Glad to see ours was not on the list...I was a little worried as to where I would have to drive to to pick up my chicks when they come in....whew (big sigh of relief!!)
|
THANKS FOR POSTING.
FORTUNATELY WE ARE NOT LOSING OURS. |
So far we're not on the list. Thanks for the link. Sue
