Has anyone painted a quilt block on wood to hang outside? Any tips as to type of wood, etc

Plywood, cut to size wanted. Exterior paint, a good polyurethane sealer.

there are several tutorials on line. Put Barn Quilt in your search engine and many will come up.

oh yes, "barn quilts" can be made any size.

you need a good sealer so it won't fade in the summer from all the sun. Good luck, and show us what you've done.

I believe my wood was 1" thick, 12x12". I used a pencil to draw the design and then painted it and sprayed it with polyurethane. I hung it dead center over the garage door. It has been up for about four years now. Sorry, I don't use plywood, it separates with the elements (snow, rain, heat, cold, typical Minnesota weathers!!!!!) It doesn't take as long to make a barn quilt as it does to make a bed quilt block. Just doesn't seem fair, does it? Good luck - have fun! Edie

So what kind of wood did you use, I'm from MN too and did you get it at a lumber yard or discount store?

The wood I've seen mentioned for outdoor use is a marine grade. Go to your local lumber yard and ask what would work would be a good idea as those people know what works.

my son used kurdyboard purchased at Home Depot for mine. paint prep and use outdoor paint.no framing needed easy to cut for square, attached to building with screws, washer on top so screw won't sink in
