I can crochet easily, but struggle a bit with knitting (though I can manage simple patterns). I haven't done either in years though!

Does that mean I am going to live longer....No wonder I keep my tatting and crocheting close by so I can just work on projects for relaxing. Never had heard this but all things are possible. :)

Assuming you are a right handed crocheter, you might want to look up the "Continental" method knitting. The yarn is held same as crocheting and you do not have to throw the yarn over the right needle (you hook it under the stitches). My mother knitted (she was a beautiful knitter who had to learn it in school in Newfoundland)and used the "English" method which I could never learn. An Irish woman taught me how to do the "Continental" method. Most how to knit books now show this method also. Good Luck!
