My computer is soooooo slow!!! I know all about the basic stuff to do..I've cleaned the cache, swept the disc, run the virus scan, deleted files via prefetch and %temp% and run a program to delete all the malware. I've tried to defrag (computer said it didn't need it). I downloaded a software program called Registry Mechanic (from cnet.com)because it said it would clean my registry for free...the free version runs the scan..found about 500+ problems, but won't clean them unless I register for $30.bucks...I know its worth it, but I'd rather do it for free if I could. (save the money for fabric, you know  )

So....does anyone know where I can download and get my registry cleaned for free? I'm really nervous about doing it..last time I did that on a computer, it deleted a .dll file and my computer was gone...so...I need a good one. Should I pay the $ and go ahead or can ya'll advise???

Thanks Patti...but when I went to cnet.com to download that...it ended up downloading Registry Mechanic even though I clicked on ccleaner????? So...I was thinking it must be the same thing?

I was just looking at cnet - and they are definitely two different products. Are you certain you clicked on the correct one? I'd try it again and see if you can get CCleaner.
