Remember ladies head scarves?

I have some larger ones that I wear over my shoulders or coats as accent pieces but haven't worn one on my head since the 60's. Back in those days a great gift for my mother and mother in law was a purse with matching gloves and a head scraf. May in Jersey

I was born in 1953 and yes, my mom made me wear them too! I fought her about it until I was 3 years old and then she got me one with Elvis Presley on it and you could not keep it off my head after that. I wore it all the time and even have a picture of me in it. When it would get a hole, I would sew it closed. I still have it, even though it is in pretty worn condition. Am thinking of framing it to hang on the wall. Never saw another one until this last summer when my DH took me to Graceland in Memphis. They now have one in the small case in the trophy room of advertising items from the 50's.

This thread reminds me of the ones that my grandma would wear. I have a couple of them now.
This winter I thought of wearing them, but I think I will just use my 1860s winter hood instead (if it gets that cold again). :)

I remember wearing an occasional babushka in the early 60's. I always enjoyed wearing them but I didn't have to wear them. My mom had a collection of scarves that went with all her outfits. She wore her hair in a bun for many years & would tie the matching scarf around her bun.

LOL I bet you and I worn a head scraf at the same time....remember when It was stylish to put those rollers in your hair and go to shopping with a scraf tied around your head...LOL I grew up in a very small town and if you went to town on Saturday with your hair rolled (to be seen of course) It was a sign that you had a date that night......how funny is that...

If truth be told, I would still wear them if I could find them and wouldn't be considered a kook. :D
Some of them were beautiful.
Anyway, what's happened to them?
I'd like to buy some to use in a few craft projects and, although ebay has some now and then, the prices are too much for me.
I guess they're considered collector items now maybe.
I remember them being pretty inexpensive (I'm speaking of the non-silk ones)
Does anyone know where I can buy some at a "normal" price?
I've googled a little and can only find silk ones.
Thanks.
