I have noticed this term a lot lately, and began to wonder where it came from ~ some of you might wonder too, so here is what I found: In 17th century France, people who were petitioning the "crown" would sign their names in a literal circle in order that it would be difficult to determine who the actual ring leader was ~ therefore, everyone shared equally in the credit or blame. Sounds a lot more fun though when it applies to quilters sharing their blocks, doesn't it!
