Doggie Treats

Doggie Treats
Hi everyone,
I know a lot of us on here have dogs and there is a current recall on the chicken jerky treats made by Blue Buffalo and Kingdom Pets brand that Costco carries. The chicken is coming in from China and there have been reported up to 50 deaths by dogs that have consumed the products. I even checked out our Celebcorp brand by email as it is very misleading on their website. They claim it's all made in Canada but on the package on the very back it says "imported into Canada by" so I sent them an email, and to my surprise they are importing their chicken from China as well but it's not mentioned on the package or on the website.
The email went on to say that they have teams of inspector's that are always in the plant doing inspections, and that the employee's feed the treats to their own pets. I don't know how much of that is true, but I thought other's should know about the cautions and recalls that are going on at the moment.

I never buy treats that originate in China. I buy from my local Barkles and only the best. Sometimes I make my treats. One treat our golden especially loves are antlers. They are expensive, but he really loves it for his chew.

I buy ground beef and turkey and dehydrate strips in my dehydrator. It cost pennies compared to the bought package treats and I know my dog is getting safe treats. Walmart has the jerky gun. Fill with plain ground meat, press out strips on the rack and leave in the dehydrator until dried out thoroughly about 10 hours or more. I always check where my pet food is coming from and unless it states clearly where I don't buy it. I buy no pet food that has the word China anywhere on the package.

Could this recall be a mistake or a hoax?

Here is the link to the FDA website about the recall our vet sent out a notice that they were advised to update their caution letters to clients this week to include the Blue Buffalo as well as the Kingdom Treats being sold via Costco. We asked our vet if we should throw out the treats we have and she said no, as it wasn't one of the brands on their list. I have no idea if there is a difference between the USA standards and the Canadian standards with regards to food for pets, I just wanted to give everyone a heads up as we were notified by our vet as well as other's in our neighborhood that have different vets than us.

I have found this out the hard way...Tink LOVES that treat and we had to cut her off...coldturkey. The ones that I was buying didn't say anything about China either, but found out by really checking, and they were importing from China.
To be fair...The investigators are having a hard time finding oout what is wrong with this treat...
Tink seems to feel better and has more get up and go since she has been off of them.

Maybe 3 years ago,China was putting ground up Melamine, The same plastic that dishware is made of, in their pet products, and then it was found in their baby formula. Many animals died & some babies. It tests as a protein which is why it sometimes sneaks past "inspections".... The only other thing I can remember is that the Melamine was causing kidney failure.

I make my own dog treats.. 1 pkg beef liver 2 cups flour maybe mix in some oats to equal 2 cups..and 1-2 eggs. Mix it all together ~ I use the food processor until its just mixed and bake like cookies. My dogs LOVE these.
