San Fransisco for Visiting Quilter
#2
San Francisco is a very diverse city. I don't remember a lot of quilting in the city when I lived there. If you are into dyes and other sewing related goodies visit Dharma Trading in Berkeley. Drive so you can go to the Fourth Street Grill.

there is a very active guild in SF, they put up a great quilting show every couple of years. I would get in touch with them for suggestions of the best quilting shops in the city. I leave in the bay area, plenty of fabric store in the suburbs!

Here are just a few from the Yellow Pages. I googled 'quilt shops in San Francisco' and quite a few popped up. There are many more in Oakland, just across the Bay Bridge and also in Berkeley. Most of them have a web site that you can access to check them out further

IQuiltnFL is right about Dharma Trading.. very fun.
Fourth St. in Berkeley is a fun shopping experience too with lots of interesting shops.
A few years ago I found a tiny shop in Chinatown, SF that sold home linens... hand embroidered hankies, pillow cases etc. I bought several hankies to make a christening gown.

Britex on Geary St is not a quilt store per se but has a small quilting cotton section. What it does have is 4 or 5 floors of just about every type of fabric you could want (home dec, wools, bridal, etc.), more buttons than you've probably ever seen anywhere else and tons of trims. It's just a fun place to browse.
