Maybe this explains my sewing room.

I once was the office manager for a very well known (nationally, in the medical field) physician. He had the messiest desk I ever saw. I just told him it was sign of genius to have such a mess and still be able to produce what he needed to produce.

This backs up what I've known about myself for years. Not only am I more creative in a "messy" space, I'm much more comfortable. I feel on-edge in a space that is too orderly - it's obviously not MY space! I'm messy but I know exactly where everything is. I clean my studio periodically but even when my studio is spic & span it's cluttery - all my scissors and rulers hang from rails out in plain site, I have lots of decorative nicknacks up on shelves, stacks of folded fabric are usually on display, etc. My desk at work is similar - extremely functional but not really neat, except for the shelf that holds my toy robot collection which I keep in perfect order, LOL. Fortunately I'm a programmer so I'm sort of expected to be a little messy and weird, LOL.

My sewing room is not as organized as I'd like but I do know where everything is. DH asked why I had so many baskets and clear containers. Told him to take a closer look, at least they were all labeled. He knew then why his labels kept having to be replaced. The room is still a bit overwhelming but he can now find things also.
