This explains a lot. There wasn't a flat surface in our house that was not covered with my husbands paper work. If I would start to complain it was met with 'have you seen your sewing room' - 2 facts he never seemed to register (1) I did not have visitors in there and (2) there was no need to do bookkeeping on what I made and spent at the end of the year. I did conquer the where to eat problem I bought TV trays that could be folded away safe from paper stacks.

It might look messy to outsiders but I know where things are. I was working inpatient and one of the other therapists asked for an article. I told him exactly where on my desk it was. I agree with the article. At one point my Dad was helping me "get things organized". It is so hard to explain that material folded and placed in boxes might look good but how do you know what you have???? When I need a project I look at the fabric separated by color and thats how I get my best ideas

This makes me feel better. I do try to organize every once in a while, but entropy seems to take over.

My dear Mother told me one time why she thought I needed everything I had, to be out where I could see it...She said it was probably because I didn't have much growing up, and now I want all my things out where I can see them, and that really is the case in my sewing room for sure...that was one time "Momma Knows".... and I enjoy all of my collections...

I'm not one that can work in a messy environment. Overall things need to be organized for me.

I have a manager that used to give me grief about my desk. It drove him crazy that I had such a messy desk but usually had the best production records on a consistent basis. When his boss came down for an audit one time, he was told to leave me alone, it was obvious my work spoke for itself and he said the Einstein quote. My sewing room is usually messy as a I work, but I clear it up when I finish a project. It's just the way I am and my husband is the opposite.
