Hi Sara,
I too am a beginner seamstress, I happened to stumble upon this felt pumpkin project, http://www.blissfulsewing.blogspot.c...l#.UkVQNif0LIU The project is very easy and quick, you don't even require a sewing machine as the pumpkins are hand-sewn. I made a number of them in an hour! just loved it.

The 10 minute table runner is quick and easy. There are youtube videos on it. Check out the videos from the Missouri Star Quikt Co on youtube also. Jenny Doan has many easy ideas and you can use Halloween fabric.

Welcome HappyMom!
You're absolutely right as it is an awesome place.
Here's a link to a recent thread which has some table runner patterns, including the Ten Minute one that Tartan mentioned.

Howdy and welcome, from Texas!
A lap quilt can be very easy, if you use larger blocks or wide strips. Instead of binding, you can "birth" it (sew right sides together, then turn right sides out). You can skip the batting part, by backing it with fleece. You can tie, instead of quilt.
