Some years back, my son found a sewing machine in a cabinet with a bench. It was maple and both pieces were in great condition. He brought it home and gave it to me.
When I began to quilt, I made a quilted cover for it and attached it inside the lid. The bench holds lots of sewing essentials, like extra bobbins and thread or little tools you seldom use but need to be handy.
Those were the days..........when things were well made and made to last. I am grateful to those who took good care of these items and then passed them on to future generation.
My youngest daughter is now the owner of the cabinet and bench plus the sewing machine I bought in 1969 - two years before she was born. The future generation has a nice addition to her home.
We need to rescue the old things we loved and cherished and pass them along to the newer members of our families. The future holds a lot of promise for those who use the quality items we cherished.

As soon as I saw those little painted toes I knew that something was
amiss. They just don't go with the picture of you that you sent in!
So I tracked down your pic - nope, something is wrong - your feet
don't go with your face, Miss Ruth........

I have my MIL's bench that she used for the grandkids to sit on at the table for holiday dinners. It is now sitting under my mom's sewing cabinet at my house waiting for my grandkids to grow big enough to sit on at the table.

I have been looking for that bench! I got my great-grandmother's sewing machine but I didn't get the seat with it for some reason. I use a rolling desk chair which is more practical but I still want the seat that came with it. I thought I was imagining that Grandma had that seat! So glad to see I am not crazy after all . . . . . .
