When a user is deleted, their posts go too, which can make some conversations look rather odd because there are bits missing.

When a user is locked, they can no longer log in, but their posts remain.

My personal opinion is that if a user is locked out, there should be some sort of message saying they're no longer a member of the board.

This is the problem with the new practice of locking users out, rather than deleting them. Their posts remain, so it looks like they're just not around.
Please explain "locking people out". This is new to me. Thanks.

Yes, I'd like an explanation of that also. Thanks.

Why would a person be locked out?

A person could be locked out for many reasons, breaking the rules would be the most obvious I would think.

But if you're asking why Shadow was locked out, I'm afraid I don't know.

What a shame we lost Shadow Dancer, I so wanted to see her wonderful quilts and I loved reading about her life challenges and have been waiting to read how she has been doing. Surely Admin or one of the moderators would know what happened and be kind enough to let us know.
She was also a moderator.

The only way admin or the other moderators would tell us where Shadow Dancer is, is if she gives them permission...otherwise her privacy is protected.
Shadow, if you are reading this, know we love you, we miss you, and we are lifting you up in our prayers.

I also miss Shadow, she is someone I looked up to, and one of the most talented, creative, people on this board, it is a shame we will no longer be able to see her work, and if there is a way to keep in touch with her, I would love to know how....

Shadow wasn't/isn't locked out. She left on her own accord. She may or may not be back, that's her decision. Other than that, she's doing fine.

It is so sad those of us who do know about members cannot speak freely on here anymore. Best to leave well enough alone. I am surprised this post is still here. Rumors are no fun and truth is hidden. I too would like to know when a member leaves. None of our business why but out of concern. We meet them here and if they have run across bad times or something, it would be nice for us to know. But then again it is summer and we do like our vacations and people come and go. It's a natural thing. Seems like those of us who join in all the swaps, and chats hang around forever. LOL.
If it is the summer and such, can't wait for winter to come.LOL

i'm struggling to find exactly the right way to respond and clear up a few things. i will probably get it wrong, but i'm going to try.

it isn't that i don't understand, or that i automatically assume there is a dark motive behind the public questions. i just can't provide an answer that will honor her right to privacy, satisfy everyone's confusion or curiosity and put the matter to rest all at the same time.

everybody misses Shadow Dancer. if you know her, then you know she doesn't want any sort of public controversy or quibbling to go on about her absence. if she were to read this topic she would be displeased.

we should accept her decision with the same degree of grace and class with which she made it. we should follow her example and just "let it go."
