Side affects of steroids

Weight gain---a puffy unnatural looking weight gain.
Unless it's too much too often then there can be a side effect known as Roid Rage that can have deadly consequences. Taking them for too long can cause other problems. They should always be taken under close medical supervision. Cortizone injections can be harmful to cartilage.

If you are talking about Med Pac of steroids/cortizone, I get side affects. Ankles and feet swell, increase in hunger, and it causes my hot flashes to go bonkers for a couple of weeks.
But if it stops the flare ups of my fibromyalgia attacks, it is worth it.

My son takes them for asthma ( predisom ? spelling)--- he gained a LOT of weight , couldn't sleep , was hyper
My Brother took them-(predison? spelling ) --- he only took them for 3 days - they thought he had tick disease--- it affected the blood flow to his hips , and since has had to have hip replacement on both hips. This is a VERY rare dose effect but does happen.
Also if you take them for any length of time you have to decrease dosage to come off of them.
Follow the doctors orders !

Follow doctor's orders as to the amount and weaning off of them...
Increased appetite, food cravings, sleep interruption, agitation, hyperactivity... not necessarily all at the same time, but off and on...

I would also add that it does screw with your sex drive. it just depends on what kind you are on. my hubby when he was younger was on ones that were mixed with hormones to fix something that was wrong with him, can't remember off the top of my head.

I'm taking them as part of chemotherapy. Don't know what kind or how much, but they do increase my appetite. I told my doctor and he cut back on the amount, thank goodness and I can tell that I'm not as hungry as I was.
But I've heard that long term use can cause bone damage so be careful.
If your doctor gave them to you, though, he or she is assuming that the benefits will outweigh any negative side effects.

My late husband would have to take prednisone for asthma when he had flareups and pneumonia. He always said that he felt like he would crawl out of his skin. He didn't notice any other symptoms except edema.
