Default Silhouette Cameo

Every year my husband gets two (2) "bonus" first about mid/late
May, and mid November. With these bonuses he generally gives
me about $500 sometimes more depending on what I am looking
to buy.

I had been looking at the Go Big cutter, but didn't like the idea of
having to buy all the cutting dies. A friend suggested that I research
the Silhouette Cameo machine because it can do so much more than
just cut fabric. So I did, and the more I read the more I liked the idea
of what it has to offer.

My hubs told me last week that he would be getting his bonus this
week. Than he asked me what I had planned to to buy. Well I told
him about the Silhouette and he did his own research on it and liked
it as well.

So now I am thinking alright this is supposed to be "my" purchase, and
he plans to use it a lot as well hahahaha.

He told me that he was planning to buy new cordless lithium ion battery
tools (drills, circular saw, nail gun etc) because the current cordless tools
(and more to the point the batteries) are old, and wearing out.

With all that being said I thought about him using the machine I plan to
buy, and think well he does have the right, without his bonus I wouldn't
be getting the Silhouette, but more to the point I use his cordless tools a
LOT myself.

Gosh I love my husband. He is always so generous with his bonuses.

Do any of you have/use the Silhouette Cameo for cutting fabric for their quilts?
How many layers of fabric can you cut at a time?
Do you use it for other things?

Don't know what you've seen the cost at, but here is a link to Amazon with free shipping!

Looks like a great machine!

I think you can cut only one layer of fabric at a time with this machine. That's why it's more suitable for applique than for pieced quilts. There are a lot of websites with info about using this machine. I will post a few that I found, but I'm sure there are lots more:

I have the Silhouette Cameo and also the Accuquilt Go Big (electric one). I use the Cameo for cutting cardstock, vinyl and one layer of fabric fused to stablizer. You can certainly do a lot on one, but as far as quilting, I only use it for applique (raw edge fused mostly). since I'm not a big raw edged fused appliquer, I frankly use it more for non fabric projects.
I use the Acuquilt to cut whole quilts in minutes. Yes the dies are pricey--but since I do mostly geometric shape quilt blocks, my strip died bundle get used the most. I think your choice depends entirely on how you intend to use it: Cameo for applique (fused) , paper or vinyl projects, the Go Big for cutting multiple fabric cuts.

Only one layer of fabric, BUT if you purchase a design - like Sunbonnet Sue, it's one size that you can stretch to make any size you want. Go to the silhouette store, they have so many things. You can get quilt designs, make fancy boxes for gifts, even do vinyl lettering like you see decorating walls. Very versatile.

Kitsie - i did buy a Cameo 3 from Amazon, but not the one you posted
the link for. I went with a bundle that was "home business" and got many
more items with the bundle. I also got free shipping just not the prime.

I did watch MANY video, and did a lot of reading before I made my purchase
really like the glass etching because next year I am going to customize some
glass ware & wine glasses for family members.

Being able to resize design is one of the features that attracted me to the Cameo 3.

Thank you all for your comments.

You should also check out the brother scanncut, don't need the computer and it has built in quilt blocks. I love mine in case you are not feeling your silhouette

My SC3 was delivered Friday night all I had time to do was unpack
it from the box and update the firmware for it.

Reason for not doing more with it con Friday night was because I
had gotten up at 5am to go to work so I was tired. Not to mention
we had to get to bed as we were getting up early Saturday morning
so we could leave to go to my MIL.

But I DID start purchasing a few designs for my SC3.

Hope to hear more about this purchase. Congratulations! I'm considering this model, too. Or the Brother Scan n Cut, maybe?
