Satin pillow covers are what I have used for years. They have a zipper and can be found at Bed, Bath and Beyond. They do help keep your hair from getting "bed head".

I prefer satin pillowcases for sleeping on. Your hair does not get mussed.

My mom always used the satin pillowcases. She said it really kept her hair nice.

I used nylon taffeta to make sheets and pillowcases one time, extra wide fabric made for such projects. Although I don't use them very often anymore they have worn very well, even after many repeated washings. They were cold to climb in between in winter but once they were warm, they were very comfy; in the summer they were wonderfully cool.
