We have two sets that get hung each year. The set I made when my daughter was a baby. She is 28. I added new ones as the family grew. They hang on the cardboard fireplace.(Just like I had a child) The other set came from my in-laws. My husband's original. He is 57. We all have one that his late Grandma embroidered our names on. They are hanging on the stairway. They bring back a lot of good memories. I love tradition.

We always had the same knitting stockings. We each knew immediately which was "ours" and claimed it to hang on the mantle. We loved them and my mom still has them though we don't do stockings anymore.

We have used the same original stockings every year, 25 plus years, it always brings back such nice memories.

My mother made me a red flannel stocking with my name hand-embroidered on it when I was 8 years old. I'm still using it, 54 years later. My sister also has one with her name on it that she has used for 54 years as well.

I made my children some very ornate ones one year...with their names. They're still using them -- and they're in their 30s!

I had a friend in highschool that had a baby at the end of her junior year. A year and a half later my friend was killed in an auto accident. Three years later the grandmother realized that she wasn't able to raise this little girl and put her up for adoption with the stipulation that she still be allowed to be a grandmother. My sister adopted Alyson and our family adopted Mary. One year for Christmas Mary presented each of us with a beautifully knitted stocking that she'd made with our names across the top. Mary passed away many years ago but I still use our stockings. My husband changed from David to Dan so I had to take David out and put Dan on that stocking. When my mother died her stocking went to my daughter since they have the same name. I wouldn't dream of using any others.

We reuse the same ones I made years ago. As my kids grew up, married and moved out I made new ones for them, thier spouse & kids (for their home).

But they still have the childhood ones I made them at my house -- full of course when they visit on Christmas day. I have ones for DIL, SIL & Gkids at my house too.

We have use the same stockings for the last 14 Christmases. I had our names embroidered on them. Now that we have a new grandson, we will be getting one for him with his name on it too.
