When someone is not nice, we say that they are "mean as a snake."

zozee, I told my son once that someone was, "rode hard and put away wet." He was shocked that I said it because he thought it meant something sexual. LOL

You told him it referred to a horse, right?

Pegasus, In SC, an ice box was a refrigerator, we were "fixing" to do something, milk was "sweet milk," and iced tea was "sweet tea."

Jane Quilter, You should have seen the look on his face when I said it... priceless. I don't usually say things like that in mixed company. Yes, of course I told him what it really meant, but only after I had a little fun with him first.

Growing up in Milwaukee we had bubblers. To everyone else they are water fountains.

living in the Midwest I have heard most of these and use several myself. But I always smile when I hear "y'all come". My cousins from Ga. always say that and my grandson who was raised in the Midwest but is now in N. Carolina has started using it. Another one that my cousins in GA say when they are going to take someone someplace - instead of a ride they use "carry". Love to hear them talk with their southern accent.

How about whole kit 'n caboodle meaning the whole thing. Shenanigans -- mischief. Crazy as a loon, not dealing with a full deck, a loose screw (a bit crazy). Half pint (little kid).

"Putting on the dog" - for acting like you're better/fancier than those around you.
