WASH your grapes really well

My 4 year old granddaughter was rushed to the hospital from day care this am. She got up, got dressed, had breakfast, mom drove her to day care and before she got out of the car she said to her mom, "Look, my hands are all red and swollen". Her mom walked her to her room, took her coat off and her fingertips were turning blue. Long story short, EMS was called and she had her first ride in an ambulance. She was treated with benadryl and steroids. She has never had any type of allergic reaction to anything before.
The only thing she ate that was in question by the doctor was red grapes that she had with her breakfast. He said that even after rinsing them that they probably still had insecticide on them. Scarry.
She's OK now. Home and watching Christmas movies.

I'm so glad your GD is okay-that can be scarey. Will wash veggies and fruit more carefully after reading this.
I learned something new the other day: wash cantelopes and watermellons before cutting. Even tho we don't eat the outside, when cutting them the knife can force bacteria or pesticides inside the fruit. (Makes sense now that I think about it.)
How did we live this long? I remember eating fruit from the store or tree without washing when I was young LOL>

ANY grapes from outside the US may have more potentially
hazardous chemicals on them.... BUT, the US uses chemicals too, just supposedly less toxic. With that being said....
ALWAYS AlWAYS wash ALL your fruit under running water for at least two minutes! I have read that grapes from Chile are the worst.
**And it is true about the cantalope and watermelons....wash them too! I used to work with a food safety expert at the UNL Extension office here!
So sorry that this happened...hope she is going to be all right!
