My first grandson started by calling me Nana. When he was about 5yrs old he changed it to Nena( don't know why) but now everyone calls me that even my ex-husbands daughter. Oh by the way they are all in their 20's now and even their boyfriends and girlfriends call me Nena

I didn't want to be called "grandma" as I thought I was just too young to be called that. lol So, since I had the first grandchild for my mom and dad and I had the pleasure to pick what the grandchildren would call them, which was nay-nay and papa. My oldest one who was giving us our first grandchild had the same opportunity and she chose pap-pa and me-ma.

Sometimes I think it's regional. I've heard maw maw, or mee maw in the south. I think Ya Ya is the cutest and my daughter's children call their Greeek grandmother that. Nonni is cute, sounds Italian to me. I like Grammy for myself. Granny sounds older than I want to be recognized for .... and then there is plain old "Grams" which my sister in law's children called their grandmother. Boils down to what you like to hear I suppose. To me, it's all music out of the mouths of those precious babes. My sister's grandchildren call her Nana and her husband Pepe which is an old French custom I believe.
