I love Folly Beach, SC, more private than some of the other beaches, but I've heard the riptides have been deadly the last couple of years. I don't go further than the tide line so not a problem for me! If you look up where you want to go you'll find rental agencys for each one as a rule.

We stay at motels/hotels when traveling by car. Found out that if you stop at states welcome center, they usually have pamplets with coupons for motel stays at really good rates at some nice places.

We love Bed and Breakfasts, there are so many different kinds. We have had wonderful experiences in them.

My husband is retired from the AF so we stay in lodges on military bases when we can. Otherwise, we priceline hotel rooms. My son, however, uses VRBO every summer and has stayed in fabulous cabins in Colorado and Tennessee. they vacation with her family so there are 8 of them. He's had very good luck with VRBO.
