Where does it all come from?
This is NOT a soap box for buy American! Just curious, where does everthing we use to quilt come from? I know some of our better brands of fabric start from cotton grown in US the shiped overseas to be spun woven and dyed then back here to us. I did find 5 company's here in the Us that make there own fabric. Our Sewing Machines come from all over the world, I have one from US, Switzerland, England and China, those are just my newer ones.LOL I have thread from Germany, India, Egypt, US, and found an old wooded spool that says made in Canada. Tools I'm still working on.

Some time ago I started looking at where some of my products were made. At the moment, the only two I really remember is my Aurifil thread is from Italy (with cotton imported from Egypt), two of my machines were made in Sweden, and my needles come from Germany. There were a few other products I had looked up but I don't remember now.

I would love to make a quilt from fabrics from all around the world. When i travel i look for fabric and often it is all the same, which is sad. I suppose it is hard to compete with big industrial producers, and they do provide consistency and low(ish) prices, which I like too, but i do wish there was more difference left.

I have no idea where all my quilting supplies come from, but I imagine most of it comes from other countries than America... especially where I buy most of my fabrics! lol....walmart.... It is interesting, to know that your cotton came from """ and was shipped to """" to be turned into fabric... pretty cool

I have learned to check where my Guiterman thread comes from. The stuff from Mexico (as sold in our Walmart stores) is garbage. It frays, fuzzes and just does not do the job. The stuff from Germany is fine.
